It’ s my personal opinion but i think that all World’s Edge Is moving on Unreal Engine because It’s a very know Engine into Xbox studios with mastera of development (coalition) which could help a lot with It.
Unreal Engine Is the most supported Engine in the world and the most spectular, allowing developers to implement excelent graphic and very good performance with DLSS.
Now, AOE4 graphic has been one of the most critized aspect of the game in every community (from reddit to steam, to the ageofempires forum) and also in many professionale review (included Digital foundry).
The main problem Is the Essence Engine by RELIC Entertainment that It has been implemented for different type of RTS (Company of Heroes and Warhammer) and It doesn’t support DLSS.
Artistic choices of Relic art directory (Sclappy, if i Remember well) to make a game too much coloured with exagerered weapons, low textures on units (this Is the reason why you can’t zoom in on them too see battles more close. You are able to zoom in only With a “free camera mod” that’s a Total mess) and bad animations (destructions of siege weapons or chickens and horses in the stables) alienated the most of fans. After the launch and After One year of critics the most of threads on often community are related to e-sport. Basically the only players who are actually playing the game are multiplayer gamers.
Unfortunately and despite of what streamers wanna share, the multiplayer fans are the Little percent of the base of AOE. The most of fans (where developers gain) are casual Who play only With campaigns, skirmish, scenarios and co-op and It has been confirmed by Forgotten Empires in the lastest interview about the upcoming “Battle of Greece” DLC for Aoe2de. For casual gamers graphic Is really important too because It helps a lot with immersion.
This Is the reason why the Sultan’s Ascend has been the most sold DLC in the history of AOE: new campaign (made by Forgotten Empires), new graphic improvements (water reflections) and Better stories to told.
In the lastest AOE survey (july or August) ther were many questions about graphic (realistic or stylized, High detailed textures, realistic weapons impact, wheater effects, Natural disaster and more).
Age of Empires Forum – 20 Jun 24
New survey! Age of Empires IV IV - Discussion There is a new survey in Steam about Age of Empires IV. Folks, please take it. The devs take into account our feedback and make the necessary changes (most of the time).

So It seems also Developers listened all critica about graphic and they are looking for really improvents.
Unreal Engine seems the right choice for all of these reasons and also because Relic Entertainment, After the lastest layoffs and the sold by Sega, are not involved on AOE4 anymore or in very Little percent. I think the upcoming and confirmed DLC in 2025 there Will be the latest for the AOE4 or World’s Edge with Forgotten Empires could redone all Aoe4 in Unreal Engine.
But what It seems Is that next titles Will probably run on Unreal Engine.
Cross fingers for a new game set in the ancient times.
Hello RTS-Community.
As fan and dev I am so happy to announce this: this weekend in Dresden, #spielraum2024 convention,
you will have the chance to dive into our medieval RTS prototype.
We are a super small indie team of enthusiasts who want to bring back the feeling of good old Age of Empires 2 and Stronghold, and partially Medieval: TotalWar (for the real-time battle aspect).
However, we want to give it the looks of a modern game of our time! So given, it's our debut, and we want to make an uncompromised game design, we need you! :)
Give it a try, and share your thoughts - because your feedback is what helps shape the game into something truly epic. Share our passion with us.
Stop by hall 4 and get hands-on with the game that blends strategy, history, and immersive gameplay.
We’re excited to hear your input, engage with fellow RTS enthusiasts, and build a community passionate about medieval gaming.

For context, I love how Sins of a Solar Empire 2 has a lot of its “Galactic Management” in the UI so you still get to see how battles unfold while building ships and your empire.
Are there any games that does this that isn’t in space?
Ive been playing quite a few RTS trying to find what i can sink my teeth in.
Something thats simple and easy on the eyes but has depth.
Few years ago i played a flash space 2D RTS game that allowed you to customize every ship and i loved that aspect of the game.
--Space RTS Ive also played--
*Conquest frontier Wars (Loved it as a kid, but its too outdated now a days. Simple but with a good amount of depth)
*Stelaris (not enough kinetic visceral action and too many unnecessary politics and other aspects i dont care about.)
*Sins of solar empire (loved it but a little too slow and lacks punch for space battles)
*Starsector (fell completely in love, the customizability of each ship is incredible and is super rewarding)
***Homeworld (**its great! but im not a fan of the 3D aspect.)
Overal, im looking for a game that keeps it medium-light on base building, but in depth and punchy combat, and unit customizability. I also love simple graphics (even flash games or look-alike work (think of FTL in aesthetics))
I am looking for an RTS to introduce my two boys (9 and 11 years old) to the genre. I have played C&C: Red Alert myself as a young adult, I also dipped my toes into Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. Very little but AFAIR I liked it.
I am looking for an RTS to see if they like these types of games. My 11-year old specifically said he didn’t like RTS because he “would like to do the fighting himself, not command it”. I have once showed them StarCraft, but it didn’t interest them very much. My 9-year old has probably never really tried RTS.
They have played other games of other genres like Minecraft, Roblox, League of Legends, Valorant and Fortnite extensively.
Any suggestions?
It was just announced immortal gates of pyre is having an open playtest through November 22-24th.
Some of the highlights are:
Hope to see you there!
I love Lords&Villeins, Manor Lords, Songs of Syx but also Rimworld: RimWar mod, Dawn of Man, Total War games. Looking for games where you build your town and then engage in trade, diplomacy and warfare with NPC factions. I search my dream game for months now but sadly all I can find are endless Banished clones or tower defense "build your town and get your daily horde of 2000 braindead enemies". Any suggestions, please? I'm becoming hopeless.
Hello! really wanting to get into an RTS, specifically for the multiplayer. something like Age of Empires. any suggestions?
Title
EDIT: Thank you all so much!!! Star Craft 2 it is!
Just as the title says games like that which are not pay to win. Really enjoyed supremacy and was able to get my friends who didn't love RTS as much or didn't understand it as well to play. They absolutely loved it but me and them were turned off by the pay to win features. After trying for 40 days and out planning out enemies we caught them off guard then they buy enough troops to negate what we just did.
For people who don't know what these games are they are simple RTS, Food, resources, production, citizen happiness. Which the goal is to take over the other countries with troops, capturing provinces / destroying there infrastructure
Metal Fatigue is a very old rts that was rebuilt for the newer windows, i was hoping someone made a new game like that
it has armies and customizable robots alongside 3 levels of terrain (underground, land and air) which i have never seen in any other RTS
The game doesnt have to be scifi , it could armies + customizable hero / leader units with mullti terran
EDIT: SOLVED - Earth 2160, faction Lunar Corporation (many thanks to u/vonBoomslang)
I'm looking for a sci fi rts game where you stacked structures, at least as a humans / terrans. I've played it at my friends place 10-15 years ago. Faction had laser(?) walls you could build around your base and the main buildings were stackable, you built one on top of another creating towers, can't remeber much more, I hope I can find it after such a time with your help
I downloaded GoG version but Wargus installer didn't work.
I picked up Godsworn recently and really enjoyed it as a bit of a classic style RTS. Some good fun missions and an interesting set of factions
As for RTS and tower Cataclismo is amazing, you get to build a castle and defend against waves.
Keen to hear what else people like to add to my wishlist.
Warcrat Direct is around the conner, it will be presented on november, 13th.
As the warcraft will be 30 years, it seems will annouce Warcraft 2 Remastered.
What expected from Warcraft II Remastered?
