Hades and Zeus have not had a positive WR since Retold got released but Greece have gotten nerfs every patch

aomstats.io lets you filter by patch, so you can double check. It feels like I'm going insane. The latest patch had Ballistics (and thus Toxotes) and Cyclops nerfs despite Hades' WR still being pretty bad, and in exchange Hades got... Chiron's +1 range fixed! Zeus got one of the worst god powers to recast dropped from 65 Favor to 55 and +10 HP on Myrmidons, a unit nobody has ever built because getting to Age 4 and putting down enough Fortresses to sustain Myrmidon production just doesn't happen.

Meanwhile Gaia who's been tearing up the ladder and Genesis got uh... Implode turned from Earthquake on crack to Earthquake on steroids and Tartarian Gate buffed so both of her mythic majors are viable.

Egypt, which has also been struggling got multiple god powers full on reworked and core unit buffs at the same time, so if this is supposed to be the devs staying cautious I would like to know what they're staying cautious for.

Is the 'Simple'-tier version of the "Hel's Last Promise" blessing functioning? (Arena of the Gods)

My friend was really excited to try this out, but when we observed his Anubites dying in combat, we couldn't tell if the "Hel's Last Promise" blessing was having any effect.

First, there's no VFX (I thought it'd have something like the Scarab explosion effect), and Second, we didn't see enemy HP bars changing noticeably (like you would with a Scarab explosion).

Is it working, but the effect is just too small to easily see? Or is it bugged?

I'm actually really enjoying Arena of the Gods; but my main critique at the moment is that I think even at the 'Simple' tier, several Blessings should have a much more pronounced effect, so that you actually do feel a difference when you equip it, and so you're excited to unlock a higher-tier version of that Blessing.

AoM retold 16. Mission campaign bug

Hello I just wanted to say that I discovered a bug on mission 16. As mission has 3 parts, I've struggled the most on 3rd part and I've never managed to pass it. Went to sleep and I woke up with completed 16th mission on titan? Maybe it counted only the first two?

Strongest late game?

Games been out for awhile now, who does everyone reckon is the strongest lategame god overall? Not necessarily the most practical just the overall strongest if you could somehow stretch the game out.

Would it be one of atlanteans with hero fanatics?

Interested to see everyone's takes.

A few missing things

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a way to set

-starting age -ending age -game doesn't end if everyone allies

My playgroup hasn't been able to find any setting or mods to allow these and it stops us from doing games like diplomacy "no wonder age"

If anyone has any suggestions on ways we could fix?

Argus Buff

Argus have an AoE attack pool which deals negligible damage for 4 seconds, then a burst of 50! Divine damage after the 4 seconds is up, which also affects buildings!

The reason you might be noticing your Argus underperforming is, if your enemy sees the pool, he has 4 seconds to move... also they don't even use the attack against buildings!

I get that they didn't want to make it steady damage so that the Argus wasn't just a weaker Centimanus. They need it to be different. Its attack is half that of the Centimanus, and they deal no Crush damage. So right now, it IS STILL just a much weaker Centimanus, and the Centimanus isn't even that good.

I suggest:

  1. Let them use their anti-building attack against buildings!
  2. Increase the AoE of the pool, so that it's harder to get out of, and has a higher chance to hit both units and buildings
  3. Give a movement and attack speed slow debuff to the pool, so that the period of time where the negligible damage is being dealt isn't worthless, and so that it's harder to get out of
  4. Change the visual so that there's a reason for the mass damage at the end. I had no idea about this until I saw it in the editor. Maybe some bubbles or an explosion at the end?

If devs are worried about all 4 of these maybe just pick 1-2, but I honestly think all 4 are warranted for this extremely weak Myth Unit.

In the editor how can i adjust villager gather rates?

I see a lot of things in the protounit section about gathering that i can in fact change but the changes do absolutely nothing, what trigger do i need to actually make villagers gather faster?

Nexus Wars on AOM Retold

In light of Arena of the Gods which was just released, I read a couple of comments mentioning that they were expecting something more along the lines of SC2s Co-op campaigns. That got me thinking about all of the great arcade game modes that are still available on SC2 like Nexus Wars. Would a custom game mode like that be possible in AoM?

Help! Game low fps for no reason on Steam

Since last couple of weeks, my game has become really slow. I play through Steam. Steam works well when started, but as soon as AoM starts, screen becomes black and takes 10 seconds to load the home screen (used to load immediately earlier), then my mouse movement becomes really slow to navigate through the menu.

Even if I start the actual campaign or skirmish game, the fps is very low and cut scenes and mouse selection of units and their movement is very slow/laggy all the time (similar to how it happens during many units on screen during late game battles). It used to work great before 2 weeks, but this suddenly started, making the game almost unplayable now.

CPU/GPU performance is not the problem, I checked that and only 14% GPU is utilised. Also set my dedicated GPU as default. Machine is high end, still tried lowering AoM graphics settings etc. Nothing helps. Happens only for Steam AoM, other high end graphics work can be done smoothly. I also checked all graphics drivers etc and all are up to date, so is Steam and AoM. Internet is also high speed.

Posting it here as this is prevalent before the current patch. Any help to resolve this is appreciated.

Can‘t Play alone anymore in battles and cant reach the next age..is this a bug ?

There is Not Even a Button für the next age when i Click on my Village. And I cant Play alone anymore Even if i have the Right settings for it. Someone here knows this Problem ??? Please help

Update not available for me?

I know this update is free, but for some reason my game hasn't updated, and I don't have access to arena of the gods. When I opened steam, it looked like the game was updating for a split second, before either canceling, or finishing. It was hard to tell since it was such a short time.

“Getting Better” Ruins the Fun for me

Looking for suggestions, but I’ll start with the problem: Something I have been struggling with recently is trying to improve my gameplay while still enjoying the game itself. For example, watching the pro matches the entire time they are jumping around the map and micromanaging a different unit every .2 seconds. It’s impossible to even see what they are doing since they teleport around the map multiple times a second.

If this is the end result of working to improve my skills at this game, frankly I’m not sure that I want it. I don’t see how playing like that can be enjoyable.

At the same time. I want to play online matches, and my competitive nature does make me want to improve. I suppose this is just an issue with all RTS games, but I like to be able to actually watch what is going on and think strategically, not just micromanage in a scatterbrained map jumping frenzy. I am a very hyper focused person so I like to be fully invested in whatever activity I am doing (ie attacking, building eco, expanding base, etc).

Has anybody else struggled with this and have any tips for improving my gameplay without taking away the fun factor?

Is it fair to play the game using military auto queue, villager priority, auto scout etc.?

I don’t care about being competitive, or the meta(although this is a strategy game). How do I know if I am a casual player? I just want to have fun. I have more fun playing with the “auto” features enabled. I guess strategy games aren’t for me, since I would enable “auto” features when I can. I don’t want to be a speed demon on APM.

I know that there are guides online, but it’s a little overwhelming to me. I only know about the “rock, paper and scissors” counter concept of the game.

I know that I won’t have full control when I put the auto-features to work. Besides, can someone tell me what was the origin of these auto features, and when they were introduced? Were they introduced to make the AOE games easier on Xbox?

I appreciate all of the auto-features, because it makes the game more tolerable. Too bad I can’t customize the villager priority thing further, because i can’t choose how many villagers are going to go for a certain resource, instead of the game managing it completely. I haven’t tested it, but I assume that i cannot control the villagers well, just because they have the villager priority setting thing.

I want to play my way, but I also don’t want to be bad at online play. Should I only stick to single player Skirmishes then? I love having Ai teammates help me destroy the enemy, while I slowly progress my village.

Does the Ai always play in a certain way, even if the playstyle for the Ai is changed?

Best way to get coaching?

I'm pretty new to rts in general. I've been putting in some work trying to get better but I'm in the mid 900 elo and seem to be dropping.

I learn best by 1 on 1 coaching but I have been watching alot of YouTube videos and streamers to see what I can improve on.

If anyone is willing to help that would be great! I'm on pc.

Minor Gods for Demeter Main God Concept

Pan

Focus: Empusa and Villagers

God Power

Mesmerizing song: Plays a tune over an area. Puts units affected to sleep for 15 seconds, affects all units including allied units and titans. Units can be woken up if they take 15% of their max hp as damage during this time.

Myth Unit

Empusa, flesh eating monsters that can shapeshift and seduce men. Their ability is charm which allows them to force any non-myth unit to for a period of time attack their allies. Familiar to the chaos god power. They attack in close range and have less hp than Minotaur's and Cyclopes but can surpass them in power after upgrades.

Unique Techs

Aristophanes Empusa: Grants increased health and movement speed to Empusa.

Apollonius Empusa: Allows Empusa to recover 10% of their max health whenever they kill an enemy unit or if a unit they are controlling with charm dies.

Folk song: Villagers gain increased movement speed, health and attack.

Persephone

Focus: Infantry and Myth units

God Power

Elysium: Resurrects 10-20 human units (Non myth, non siege, non ship) that have died at your target location. These units will be endowed with the blessing of Elysium making them invulnerable for 5 seconds after being resurrected.

Myth Unit

Vrykolakas, cursed undead who come about due to adverse conditions. For the sake of AOM they are Persephone's bodyguards enhanced by briar that grows into them making them stronger. Their ability is called brair's thorns that let them unleash an attack that travels in a line damaging enemies it hits.

Unique Techs

Briar born Vrykolakas: Increases their hack and pierce armor, and lowers the cooldown of their ability.

Pomegranate seeds: Increases the max health of infantry by 10% and gives them lifesteal that heals them for 20% of the damage they do.

Mourning Blades: Hypaspists attacks will cleave dealing 20% of their damage to nearby units.

Hestia

Focus: Buildings and Myth Units

God Power

Fires of Olympus: Throws a ball of fire at a targeted location exploding on impact dealing damage and creating a persisting fire over the area. This fire will damage enemy units and buildings over time while allied units within have increased damage and all gain the hero effective damage against myth units. While this fire persists, gods powers cannot be cast in the area. (Note that the impact damage is very low, it won't even hit as hard as a meteor and most of its effectiveness in in the buffing of units and the damage over time)

Myth Unit

Gryphon, large hybrids of bird and Lion that either can be on the ground or take to the skies based on a toggle. They have a different ability whether on ground or air.

Ground ability: Storm call, the Gryphon caws and marks 5 units near it which will be struck by lightning taking damage.

Air Ability: Wind blast, the Gryphon can flap a ball of air and throw it at an area damaging enemies and knocking them away from its centre. Can even be used against enemies on open water.

Naval Myth Unit: Cetus

A fearsome creature from the depths a Cetus is the bane of coastlines.

Ability: Tidal Wave. Cetus can fire a wave of water damaging units in a line. This wave can travel on land too and deals increased damage to buildings.

Unique Techs

Keranos Gryphon: Gryphons have a lower cooldown when swapping from land to air and from air to land. They also cost less and train faster.

Parthenon: Buildings take slightly reduced damage from Siege engines. Citidel's can garrison twice as many units. Garrisoned units recover health based on missing health, the more health missing the faster they recover.

Hearth and Home: Temples can now be garrisoned, villagers garrisoned in temples can still produce favour at a slightly reduced rate. Temples now attack with a bolt of fire dealing damage based on then number of garrisoned villagers, the bolt of fire deals additional damage to myth units.

Warming Light: Myth units deal increased damage to buildings. If a building is destroyed near a myth unit it gains a boost to movement speed for 10 seconds.

I thought getting this tech removes the cost to convert units to heroes.

It removes favor cost from research. But my units still cost favor.

Am I mistaken?

Concept Idea, 4th Greek Major God Demeter

Focus: Defence and Myth Units

God Power: Vine Wall

Creates a structure using a vector target that acts as a wall. Vine Walls have slightly more hp than wooden walls but can't be made into gates. Vine walls are unique in that they are both a structure and a Myth unit. Their inherit ability is Melee enemies that strike the wall have some of their damage dealt back to them. The walls also gain a resistance to crush damage but a vulnerability to heroes. Vine Walls get bigger with each age allowing you to block off more and more area with them. They also cost low favour but this cost increases as you age up.

Technology: Regenerating Concrete

All defensive structures (Towers, Citadel and Walls) gain 15% increased hp. And all buildings regenerate health over time, this regeneration increases with each age up.

Heroes

Orpheus (Has a sprint attack that lets him charge into battle doing additional damage)

Peleus (Low offenses but has high hp and defences)

Paris (Ability called snipe where periodically can fire an attack with increased range and damage)

Caenus (Has 2 lives, after dying resurrects and enters a rage for a short period of time gaining increased attack speed and damage, dying after the 2nd time will make you need to train him again)

Unique unit

Helot: A fairly weak infantry unit that has a bunch of hidden bonusses to exploit. They can build defensive structures such as walls, citadels and towers. They repair faster than villagers. They gain advantage against all Siege units and buildings. They deal crush damage.

Bonuses

The first granary you build is for free and is built instantly.

Villagers work farms 15% faster

Buildings cost less to repair and can be repaired faster

Myth units train faster and cost 10% less resources

Myth units regenerate health so long as they are near farms, granaries and Temples.
