I picked up the Inventive trait (+2 starbase range) and while it shows up in the UI, it's not picking up any new resources that are now in range. And the problem is that I placed my starbases specifically to take advantage of the increased range.
There are no other civ starbases in range taking those resources. It's just not grabbing these new resources.
Do I need to wait a couple of turns? Pick up a mining upgrade to recalculate resources in range? Or am I just screwed and I should have not planned for that when placing my bases?
For context, I'm playing Korath on a small galaxy (8 opponents). I went with the Malevolent ideology and the general strategy of spamming warships and Manufacturing, and managed to wipe out everyone except for the Iridium with whom i'm close to allying and bought resources from, and the Drath who mysteriously survived despite having no planets and a single shipyard without sponsors. They're "out of my travel range" on the Diplomacy tab, but I have the ability to travel the entire galaxy, so that doesnt make sense. Any help on how I can win this game would be appeciated!
Just bought the game with all expansions. Looking around for the "best" community balance patch type thing that seems to exist for every 4x game.
Anyone got a pointer for which mod to use for better game balance ? I see a reference to "Horem's Community Patch" but need a working download link, if this is the right mod for me. Thanks!
I'm playing on easy for the first time and my two allies are in a war, any solution to that?
While playing on an Insane map size I accidentally zoomed out on my mini map.
Now when I zoom back in, I cant control where I zoom into. Am I just missing a keybind?
The caption say research 10% - colony
I checked the nearest colonies manage screen and they dont show anything under research that indicates a boost from this. How does this game mechanic work?
I played the game unmodded a few times then as I usually do I downloaded a ton of mods from Nexus mods using the Vortex mod manager. I mostly download the ones that seemed important or fun from the "most popular" category.
Anyways before I ever installed my first mods I always get a error report upon start up. I always just hit with "continue" or "skip" and it was never an issue so I ignored it.
Now with all these mods I get a ton of similar error reports. I ht continue as before but none of my mods are working.
Below I have a copy and pasted the error reports:

Relatively "new" to GalCiv in general, I played it years ago when it was first released on PC (and GalCiv 2) but recently decided to get back into it seem's it appeared on GamePass and for the life of me I can;t get past 4 or 5 years without 100's of pirates spawning on top of every single starbase/planet I own, 5 Turns ago my screen and FOW was blank except for the occasional freighter from an AI now it look like this and I have 0 to defend against it except for my advanced military starbases (with interceptors).
I just downloaded the game off gamepass, and i don't know if I am missing something, but the tutorial is either broken or really bad. Just tells me to build a dock or space elevator, shows me how to do that and rush it, and that's it. Clicking on a few thing brings up how to research or what the diplomacy screen is, but that's it, nothing else
I've owned GalCiv III for years but for a long time still preferred II. I'm really getting into III now, especially on the SteamDeck. I play casually but consistently 3-4 times per week.
I'm "done" with my warmup game on mostly default settings. The pacing felt really nice, everybody has 10 or so planets. This was a good number because I was able to mostly remember what all my planets did after not playing for a day or two LOL.
For my first "serious" game I am debating whether to play a small, cramped bloodbath Galaxy or large epic opera Galaxy using Governors.
What's your playstyle and what galaxy setup do you like for it?
P.S. the game is really great on SteamDeck. Low power needed on smaller galaxies, UI is very legible, and it is smooth and easy to control with joystick + trackpad. Load times from MicroSD are acceptable.
Let's look back at some memorable moments and interesting insights from last year.
Your top 10 posts:
Thus far the only such situation, where the Tywom spoken coherently to me despite me not having unlocked Universal Translator. It is probably a bug but I like to tell myself that it's not.
So ya I bought this game when it came out thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed it, played the crap out of it, burnt out, and never played it again. Coming back 7 years later (God I feel old now lol) and wanting to relive some of HS days. Wondering what DLCs I should pick up and how the game has been changed since it launched
Noob question here: Is there a way for those of us playing the game via Epic to download ship designs? I assume that simply subscribing on the Steam workshop won't work.
I see on Steam that the base version of Galactic Civilizations III shows Crusade and Retribution included. If I already have the base game on Steam do I get those as well, or would I need to purchase them separately? Is there a way I can check if I have these expansions?
Hello, I bought GalCivs 3 some time ago and it came with an expansion. I played it for a while but got bored becuase it didn't seem like it had all that much meat to it compared to Civ 6 and any additional complexity that was there was mostly just a more convoluted UI and pointless micro managing.
I am thinking fo giving GalCivs another try but with the current Steam Lunar New Year sale GalCiv 4 and GalCiv 3 Ultimate is about the same price.
Which should I go with?
I am also considering Humankind alternatively
EDIT: Also, another big issue I had with GalCivs 3 and this might seem like nitpicking to some but I hate how an entire game seems to occur over the course of a decade. For me it is very fourth-wall breaking. Like how does a Civilization go from a single planet to having countless billions of people being born and colonizing a huge chunk of a Galaxy in the course of ten years? It ruins the feeling of realism and civilization-building that say Civ 6 offers. Anybody have a fix for this?
Just a quick question, is there any way to mod or use the command console to add/edit planet tile features, such as 'AncientRuins' or 'PreciousMetals', for example?
I wanted to go for a Science Victory with my current game. I researched everything and build the Ascension Gate and then... nothing. Where I built the gate I have a free tile now and I can't rebuild it. I did pump a lot of cargo ships into the planet to speed things up, could that have caused a bug? Anyone know of a way to fix this or is my option for a Science Victory permanently gone for this run?
I'm new, bought this game after burning out on civ a little bit. I for the life of me cannot figure out how the hell you win this game, and various tech paths don't have any apparent pros or cons for when to chase them. Having the tourism/friendly tree seems to have no bearing on.. anything.
Any tips or game play ideas would be greatly appreciated!
A lot of things include their core names instead of their actual names.
An example of this is on the research tab, colonization is MasterDepartmentOfColonization_ShortDec
P.S I am using Epic Games, not the steam version.
Anyone know a fix?
Cheers.
Ive put my colonization ship near a planet that says "the kind of planet that you want to retire to" and cant colonize it.
Are there any good Star Wars mods?
With the game free on Epic, I'm expecting an influx of new players. Primary game mode is the Sandbox, but since many new players get stuck on the Tutorial. Here is how to quickly beat the Tutorial by sequence breaking it.
Turn 1 - Citadel
Turn 1 - Shipyard (newly created)
Turn 1 - Research
Turn 2 - Send new Survey ship spawned next to Citadel to explore Artifact. Send Colony ship off to Southwest star. Survey ship then needs to move generally southward.
Turn 6 - This is when the tutorial notifies me of Artifact to the west and gives me a Constructor. Move Constructor to west, the dotted line is max range, so aim for furthest point west within dotted line. New Research, I picked Universal Translator. Survey ship should aim for Ship Graveyard to south.
Turn 7 - Colony ship should have reached star by now, Settle Fortune(planet east of sun). Continue moving other ships. Manage Shipyard and add Fortune as a Sponsor to Citadel's shipyard.
Turn 9 - New Research, I picked Colonial Settlements. Met Slyne, was gifted Interstellar Travel.
Turn 11 - New Citizen, doesn't matter what you pick. With Interstellar Travel and that Colony on Fortune, we can direct the Constructor further west to that Relic we were told to capture.
~Turn 13 - Use Constructor to make Starbase in-range of Artifact. You are pretty much free to do anything you want at this point, we've already sequence-broke the game.
Turn 20 - Notification that Drengin Colony is to the west. Transport ships en-route. Research Hyperdrive Specialization if able for an additional +1 Move.
[Side Note - One of the key failings of the tutorial is that it doesn't teach you to construct Asteroid Mining Bases. Citadel now has a valid Asteroid Field to mine to the southwest, spend 100 Credits to build it. This gives bonus Raw Production to whichever planet it is assigned to, decreasing in value with distance. Raw Production is massively important in this game.]
Turn 25 - Reinforcements arrive. There are 2x Medium Assault ships and 1x Transport. Merge one Assault ship with the Transport, and use the 2nd Assault to fight anything en-route to the Drengin planet.
Turn 32 - Transport and Assault ship arrive at Radiance, the Drengin Capital. Since we are arriving so early, the Drengin have not gotten any defenses, so just invade and win the Tutorial.
In a normal game, you will slowly build up your tech and manufacturing capabilities. And won't have ships like the Assault ships we were given until much later in the game. And Planetary Invasion is an expensive tech to research, which means you won't be able to rush Transports like that either. Any ship with 1 attack can kill Transports, so keeping defensive ships on your Capital is a good way to protect yourself.
Now that you've learned nothing from the Tutorial, go ahead and play a Sandbox game.
