My younger brother downloaded COH2 yesterday to play with me and my older brother, and we ran into some problems I've never experienced before. First off, I should let you guys know that my younger brother is playing on a Lenovo Legion go, assuming that's part of the issue although I don't know why it would be. Regardless, the first bug we encountered was inconvenient, but not a big deal per se. The game wouldn't let me or my older brother use our custom faceplates, despite the fact that my younger brother had everything set correctly, so we just unequipped them and played. The bigger issue however, was a problem concerning dlc use. My older brother couldn't use the oberkommando or British factions (which he has only recently purchased, and yes they were installed), the game stated that he had a mod installed that couldn't be used, despite the fact that he had none at all installed nor any custom items equipped, however it did let him use the soviets, Wehrmacht and US forces. This is the problem that had us scratching our heads. Despite this obviously being majorly inconvenient, I haven't heard anyone talking about any similar issues on the steam community hub, coh forums or here on Reddit. Has anyone had similar issues, and more importantly a solution? Anything would be appreciated!
(For further clarification, we've only experienced these issues while playing with our younger brother)
How's the game looking a couple of years later? Is it dying? Worth a buy for multiplayer while 50% off?
Hey all, I've played original coh as a kid and mostly player skirmishes, now I wanna relive that nostalgia and looking to buy a game.
I've look into coh2 and coh3 but I am not sure which one to buy and would like help with that, which one do you guys recommend?
I got confused with steam reviews of coh2 and coh3 where it seems coh2 is better?
As a casual player and out of the loop that will mostly focus on skirmishes and maybe give a try to multiplayer, which on is better? Which one is less complicated to play/learn?
Any advice is welcome
I don't know if the unit is still memey or I don't know how to use it, but the rockets seem to take forever to land, they scatter crazily, and the damage isn't that great. Here I tried them out with the new patch and yeah I don't think I really got value out of them. https://cohdb.com/replays/853750

11 Tutorials now on different Playbill information. Hopefully helpful to some.
What are playbills again? Basically if/then statements. New to COH3. Prescripted functions. If you're a starcraft fan, similar to Triggers.
Many more coming...
Why am I seeing pathfinder blobs so prevalent?
You try to call it out, and the user says something like "well im higher elo" and then proceeds to get murdered, and ends the match with like 4k kill, 8k loss?
Its to the point im just going to leave if I see a teammate open with that tactic, its basically throwing.
The last patch I thought spam of units would be fixed beacuse of upkeep changes and not teching up would be harshly punished, I was casually watching some high elo games to try the new feature and I stumbled across to this game https://cohdb.com/replays/851098 where usf opened with 3 pathfinders (which if you ask me is fine) but wher started with 2 more engineers then proceeded into 3 grenadiers then into quarters luftwaffe and 2 jagers and a flak. I didnt watched the game till end so thats why record is 14 min long and I dont know the outcome of the match. + I dont want to say anything bad or discredit people just for playing a game which they like but this match felt me like very unskillfull and this players are top ranked 1500+ players, I thought everybody on high elo played like REİ or somewhat close the tightrope but this game by micro and macro side (in my opinion) was bad. I really like to hear your comments and have to say I didnt mean any disrespect to this people if they red this.
Our team in 3v3 got absolutely rekt by 2 dude who both spam 6 paratrooper, while the brit do their own thing similarly
Especially vs DAK, MGs and zooks from the start seem super useful. And baseline Shermans feel so reliable. I won't be surprised if we see some US nerfs (paras, rangers maybe?)
Or playing DAK and having fire support elements apply to both structures makes them so much more flexible, actually playing T2 . MG34 suppressing units, means i feel like im not always forced into the flak HT.
I really think this was the best patch so far.
I generally open with engineer and jeep and lock armored BG and after that go for 3 riflemen, but lately I am being decimated by blobs and DAK autogun halftracks
I generally dont build WSC as I find ATHT quite weak compared to conventinal AT and they are roughly the same price (10 for building 30 for HT compared to 45 for the motor pool)
We've seen the funny bug of the retreat loop in the Winter Line map and I was curious what is causing the issue.
After testing multiple times, I noticed the most used retreat path always wants to get into the trench.
The Purple Path is taken by units rarely even without blocking paths.
Blocking the Red Path with 2 barbedwire in a V shape like in the image drawn in Blue makes the AI choose the Purple Path the most; even more than the White Path.
Positioning with 3 barbedwire in a line (2 is unreliable) like the Blue figure would distribute the retreat paths evenly between Purple and White from what I've seen.
When blocking the White Path like the Green figure in the image, the retreat path almost always chooses the Red Path and rarely the Purple Path. The Red Path has deviations, where some of the squad models will go in the trench while others won't, but this still slows down the squad.
The Yellow Path is taken sometimes in both path blocking setups, but it's more often seen when blocking the White Path. Sometimes the Yellow Path deviates where a few of the models of the retreating squad goes into the trench, while the others go around.
I have a feeling as Relic did update a lot of world assets last major patch, the rubble formation at the entrance of the trench is causing pathfinding issues if units were to retreat from near the front of the church gates. And yes, removing the rubble via satchels or crush does fix the pathfinding. In early game, best to just block off one of the retreat paths with wire or sandbags as to not lose squads in the retreat loop.
Hello! I have been playing CoH since it first came out, and recently picked up CoH3. I love the dynamic "Total War" style campaign, but I get really annoyed when it comes up saying I have unused companies. Sometimes, I want a company just left in a location for a turn to defend (especially if garrisoned), yet I have to move them in order to proceed. Am I missing something? Is there a way to override this so I can leave a company in its position?
Is there a site that has a completed save file for company of heroes 1 legacy ? I have tried twice over two years to complete this game once my computer was stolen and just recently my ssd died on the final mission of Normandy 😭
Would be eternally grateful if anyone could point to the direction of a save , despite loving the game I truly don’t want to do another play through of all the levels to get to where I was
If you go rifles the only anti vehicle capacity you have early is the snare. It needs to be punishing to halftracks that you catch. It doesnt do enough damage, and further the improved armor on the halftrack means it cant be finished with fire.
Twice now I have caught a halftrack with no less than 3 units engaging and failed to kill it.
If US doesnt get AT in that building, the snare needs to be potent vs early armor that mistakenly gets caught. It cant be this powerfull and tough.
Edit: Y’all can keep downvoting comments but the point is obvious. The counter isn’t a counter because the snare isn’t actually AT. The snare is solely there for other units to get to target… meaning other AT units need to be available in the rifle company
I’ve been playing against the ai and I find it hard to hold territories. The enemy constantly sends infantry behind the lines and capture my resource flags. I see that luftwaffe group gets defensive flak emplacements and was wondering if they are a viable method to creating a solid defensive line.
I'm confused about the "move cost" as when I right-click on the road to move my tank it always cost much more than the "move cost". Right now I have 7 move points, however if I click a little but away in the road where it says the move cost is 1 it will actually cost me several move point
This isn't a balance complaint or anything but compared to the other three factions it feels like the USF are just so limited in what they can do, almost too reliant on the battlegroup pick for flavour at this point. If you go with riflemen you kind of need to go overboard with them or tech weapon support which really delays the vehicles coming out that aren't great at all anyway.
I just feel they need something else outside the battlegroup as a lot of the units they get just replace rather than add to the army.
I'm just curious about how people are feeling as I really enjoy the other 3?
Edit: thanks everyone for the views, I’ll keep giving USF a go.
I have tried AOE4 yesterday and i noticed, that both games suffer with shimmering grass and antialiasing has no effect on it (or very small one). Antialiasing solves only rough edges on buildings and unit models. Especially noticeable on ropes from tents. I cannot spot any difference between low and high though. Does anyone know, what antialiasing these games use exactly? Is low FXAA or are they both TAA and difference is just in how aggressive form TAA it is? Is there any performance difference between low and high antialiasing? I read in one tech review high antialiasing drops cca 10 fps, but for me that doesnt seem to be the case.
Also does anybody prefer image quality with FSR? I usually use FSR in games. Especially if its newest 3.1 version like for example in Ghost of Tsushima, where it looks better, than native with antialiasing. In COH3 FSR solves issue with grass and adds some performance, but image quality to me is too soft, unless i put sharpening filter almost to max and then overall image quality starts to have that ugly oversharpened/pixelated look to it. I presume in 4k you have none of these issues and it looks fine, but im talking more about 1080p and 1440p.
since the latest patch the game crashes every single game does anyone else have this problem or know a fix?
Pachino Farmlands Pacino stalemate is currently my least favourite 1v1 map. Mainly because it is set at night and thus has worse visibility, than other maps. But on the other hand having map set at night, spices things up. I was watching some alpha footage and originally the map was set in daytime. When did they change that and what was the reason for it?
It would be cool, if they added option for different time of day. Even cooler would be, if they added dynamic weather. They could even make it part of gameplay. Imagine that half through game, desert storm breaks out on African map and lowers visibility of all units and lowers accuracy of arty. Or heavy rain starts, which temporary disables air support. It would make game visually more interesting and force players to adjust their strategy on the fly.
Do you think developers are working on new Dynamic Campaign? Personally i really like a Total war style Campaign but i would like to play also with germans, russians and more.
I should’ve noticed with the ‘console edition’ post flair tbh
I just beat the Anzio mission and now all my units around it cannot move past the white/black striped line right past the airfield. When I try the cursor turns into a red circle with a line through it saying "disabled". Am I doing something wrong? I couldn't find anything about this specific thing online. All my other units across the map don't have this problem. I'm still a newcomer to the game so any help is greatly appreciated.
I really enjoy tactical and strategy games but I've never bought an RTS (other than WC3 reforged for campaign) because of their reputation for being very micro intensive and sweaty. CoH3 has caught my eye though because the gameplay looks great, but watching someone play is different than playing myself.
Based on these other games that I enjoy, would you recommend the game to me? Or would I just be getting in over my head? Thanks in advance.
