After not playing it for a long time I recently decided to reinstall Grey Goo and play it again for a bit.
I remember being kind of down on the game when I put it down last time but I can't figure out why.
Right now I have played it for about 14 hours and I am hooked again.
The core gameplay is fun, the four races are very different from one another and the campaign is much more varied than I remember (although the lack of a real ending does suck).
All in all this seems like a very solidly designed game. Which makes it all the more confusing that it never really caught on. And I never see anyone talk about it. And that Petroglyph never made anything like it again.
Very strange.
No community *vine boom
Can anyone confirm whether this game is available or not on Steam? On the webpage and client, it says that the base game is n/a, but that I can still pay for it? I haven't been able to find any information about this.
Thanks!
As stated above, I need help how to make the game work. Thank you.
So, this game is awesome. I love it, and I love the unique gameplay of the Goo. Honestly a little sad not a lot of people see it's beauty.
But.
I've been hooked on the idea of an FPS/RTS hybrid game ever since Call of Duty 2's Strike Force missions. The mechanic of being able to control your troops from an aerial perspective while also being able to jump in the boots of one of your units to help hold the line or make a push into enemy territory just feels like an opportunity we can add to the game.
I want to get some practice into my drawing, but I might be able to sketch some rough concept images for an FPS HUD for the different factions, maybe come up with a script for a possible campaign. While I might focus on the Goo first (partially because a first person perspective for the Beta and Humans would be relatively easier to make by pulling inspiration from other games, partially because I am biased to the Goo), I eventually want to tackle making a rough draft of what this hypothetical would look like.
Who knows? Maybe I'll get into a groove and just go ham making a comic. Maybe I'll do something drastic and learn to animate just for this. We'll see what happens.
I like the sci-fi trope of grey goo, so when I found out there was a game based off this concept (and that the game's definitive edition was on sale on Steam), I jumped on the opportunity and bought it.
Just one small problem: I can't play RTS for the life of me.
I've been conditioned to play FPS for so long that I am struggling to manage my units. I'm starting out simple with the campaign, but I'm worried I won't be able to get better at it.
However, that isn't going to stop me from enjoying this game. Even if I am the worst player on the planet, this game is great, and I love the setting the devs made, so I'm gonna keep coming back and (hopefully) learn how to play well.

I feel like all it accomplishes is that it alerts enemies that there are stealthed enemies around so they just apply the upgrade for stealth vision. Even pressing "stop" does not stop them from firing.

KAMK.GG is a student-owned and operated organization in Finland of which I, hendronimus, am part of, and they have offered to help us out for this tournament. They are providing us with some goodies from cooler master as well as spreading the word about our tournament on their social media. I am considering getting this game, and I was wondering how accessible it is. Because of the low player count, I'm worried about being unable to find anyone of a low skill level to play against while I learn. Are there enough low-level players or good enough AI that I can work up to playing against good players?
