I read about it somewhere online, some years ago. I'd like to learn more about it - and try it of course. So I'm also looking for suggestions on good beers to do it with.
This 2018 blog post is the only thing I can find now but I don't think that's the original article I read. The blog says it's for farmhouse ales, but honestly it's been so long since I've had a Norwegian farmhouse ale that I couldn't say what a good similar style is.
(I've also had a hot imperial Berliner weisse, which was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend checking that out at Waldmann brewery if you ever pass through St Paul, MN)
Hej all. I come from the country of Heineken, but honestly prefer to buy and drink Hertog Jan (for those who know) when I'm back home. I'm currently spending some time in Sweden and would like to know what Pilsener you (Swedes) would recommend mostly. Tack för svaren!
I'm just genuinely curious--what is typical beer consumption like for those who have worked at a brewery or a beer bar? Is drinking during shifts standard? How about after? Do you come in on off days too? How do you limit yourself from temptation when necessary?
Hello everyone. I’m trying to find a beer I had about a year ago that I haven’t been able to find ANYWHERE. The liquor store I got it from only had one 6 pack and hasn’t gotten any since and I can’t even find it at Total Wine. It’s a blueberry flavored/colored malt beer. It literally tastes like a melted blue raspberry milkshake and is the tastiest beer of its kind that I’ve ever had. I can’t remember the design of the bottle but it’s so delicious. If anyone has any idea of the name of this beer please let me know. TIA.
How is it? I found a few bottles on a dusty shelf. Put one in the fridge. $17.99 a fifth
I’m in Mexico and I was wondering about the white point on the bottleneck from my Victoria beer. What is it?
When I was younger, I remember dad collecting points off of the beer boxes. This was probably late 90s early 2000s. If you collected enough points you could go to the distribution center and they had a catalog of items you could redeem your points for. Does anyone remember this or what it was called? Unfortunately, my understanding was dad just left all of his belongings to a “friend” at some point and I’ll never see them again. But I’d like to try to find a catalog or something to see them in.
Was gifted a bottle of Gillian barrel aged farmhouse ale last Christmas from Goose Island Brewery and just found it in my cabinet. It’s a 2016 release - is it still any good? Bottle date is 19Feb16 with an 8.8% ABV. Thanks!
Hello, I live in Richmond, VA. Mostly been a fan east coast /west coast IPA’s over the years, along with seasonal stouts/sours. I’m a pretty open and appreciative beer connoisseur, and have started to become interested in lagers more and more. Let me know yalls fav go to quality lagers. I’m working on getting a 4p of Slow Pour from Bierstadt Lagerhaus from a friend in Denver because I heard it’s a 10/10 Pils. I live very close to the Veil/Triple Crossing/Vasen/Answer/Bingo so I’ve had a lot of good beer and solid local lagers. but want to find a more readily available go to. I’ve also tried a decent amount of imports like Hofbrau, Weinstephaner, Ayinger, etc but haven’t found the perfect one yet (although I did enjoy all of them). Thank y’all!
Hey everyone, I'm looking for this specific Ukrainian beer for the holidays. It's called Lviv Christmas(ЛЬВІВСЬКЕ РІЗДВЯНЕ). If anyone knows where or how I can get this would be greatly appreciated. I'm located in New York City also.
Does any one know where I can find Indio beer in northern Indiana/ Chicagoland are? Just tried for the first time in CDMX instantly became my top 3 beer.
Drinking beer is a very popular social norm. I don't really care if I don't fit within the norm. But I've been watching lots of videos where they try all kinds of beer. I'm just fascinated by all the different types of beers and how much beer is there on the market.
So I've been asking myself if I might like other types of beer. I've only tried light beers, you know the cheap ones. I hate the flavor and nothing about it is appealing to me.
Is there a big chance I might still like other kinds of beer? I feel like I'm not giving beer the chances it deserves, because I haven't tried craft beers, more expensive beer and stuff like that.
So I go to school in Milwaukee, and had an awesome last night. Saw gladiator II at a historical theater that was restored with two people in my cohort (I’m in grad school for history, so I was geeked out), and lo and behold, two of my friends from other classes sit right in front of us. My friends that I ran into asked us to get a few beers to talk about the historical aspects of the movie. What is more awesome than running into friends and spontaneously getting some beers!?
Anyways, movie ends and we go to a bar. I order us all a round of PBR tall boys. I do not condone underaged drinking, but PBR was my first sip of alcohol at like 12, first full beer at 13, first drunk at 17, and was a beer I could always tolerate before I actually got into beer. I’m 25 now and have been drinking it rather consistently for like 5 years. To me, it’s always had a very bready taste which I love. I take a sip and it’s sweet? The PBR I had was brewed in La Crosse at G. Heilmann and it was fresh, but the ABV was 4.7? I swear it was a little bit higher before? I know PBR only recently went to La Crosse, has the recipe changed? Last year in 2023, I had PBR a good amount and it didn’t taste anything like what I was drinking. This summer I had PBR here and there and remember the flavor just wasn’t there.
I then decided to try Miller High Life on tap. Considering I was in Milwaukee and that’s where Miller is based, it’d be the best quality I could get besides from the brewery itself. I’ve always hated High Life (a sin as someone who’s grown up and still lives within 30 minutes of Milwaukee lol) and would deny it even while hammered when I would drink almost anything, but I’ve really only had it far away from Milwaukee when I was in undergrad. I’ve only been able to handle high life light, but after having it on tap, I’d say it’s now my second favorite macro lager behind Banquet. I was missing out.
Recently started getting into Guinness as like the only beer I’ve ever bought to store at home. If I’m not going to drink it for a couple days/ weeks would it be better to leave in the fridge or keep in a cabinet to then put in the fridge for when I’m ready to drink?
I live in California and just have to comment on what I feel like as a trend that has now reached an absurd level. In any beer section of a store selling US based craft beer, 80% of the beers are West Coast IPA. To the extent there are other beers available, they are almost exclusively either lager/pilsner, coffee porters/stouts, or fruit flavored ales/sours.
There are dozens of styles but I guess no one cares to make the others. It’s frustrating because I absolutely don’t need 70 different kinds of west coast ipa. They all taste like citra or Amarillo hops.
Yea this has been happening for the last decade but IMO it’s getting worse every year. The funny thing is, this strategy seems to have the effect of driving people who really like to sample and try new beer to drink more and more imports, developing a taste preference for German, Belgian, and even UK/Irish beers.
Does anyone in the US have a different experience in the store? Or is the whole US domestic craft beer market the same now?
This was my first experience with it and it was not good at all. I couldn't do more than 2 sips. Was it a bad batch?
Bought it this past Sunday. Opened it twenty minutes later and was spewing foam. Wife and I tasted it after it settled and it had gone sour!
Hey there!
I’ve never been a huge beer guy, as the hoppy bitterness always turned me off, especially when friends would push me in the direction of ipas. Someone finally turned me to barrel aged beers, and I’ve settled on boulevards bourbon barrel quad as my regular favorite! I’m aware that for some people, especially purists of Belgian style ales, would say that it’s too sweet and less yeasty, but this is what I like.
I’m fascinated by the goose island offerings, and I’m curious if anyone here who has experienced bbbq has tried any of the bourbon county selection- or any other barrel aged beers that may fit the bill (saw dragon milk d20 going for $50… interesting, but I’m passing for now).
Editing- fomo got the best of me, and I bought a BCBA. I took a taste, recorked it, and bought 6 more (3 regular, 3 adjuncts 😬). Apparently I don’t just like quads lol. Thanks for all the insights!!
Thanks!
Does anyone know where I can find Old Rasputin on Long Island? It’s not sold at my local beer store.
Hello everyone.
I have just tried daedong pale ale from South Korea. My first south Korean beer. I'm enjoying very much. I'm getting a lot of orange notes which I haven't experienced so much before. I'm from the UK. Does anybody know which hops are used in this beer?
We are cellaring various delicious Belgian beers. Every year we set up our Christmas tree we plan to enjoy a pair (or more) Stille Nacht beers from Dolle Brouwers. We have 4 of each year since 2019 plus a pair from 2015. To make the most of it what should we drink this year?
Hey fellow beer lovers! Title says it all. Looking for good winter beers to try this season. Beer lover but haven't drank too many winter beers. Live in Minnesota so many options here. TIA!
Here in Europe our lagers and pilsners have a really good body flavour, malty and a sharp after taste.
I am reading the the Sam Adams Boston Lager has gone to shit.
Are there some other cheaper alternatives?
...if it has fruit in it. 🧐
I used to love the snowdrift vanilla porter, it only use to come in the variety pack. Has anyone seen this pack recently ? I can't seem to find anything from that brewery anymore.
Grew up in Boston, Sam Adams was the foundational family of beers that was my reference point for beers for a long time. I used to love the seasonal variety packs, especially the holiday brews - holiday white ale, winter lager, old fezziwig, etc.
Moved to Colorado 5 years ago, and saw the pack in the store yesterday and got really nostalgic. I’ve had one of each now, and it’s really bizarre: they are all almost flavorless. The porter is great, and the white ale is ok, but the fezziwig and the winter lager taste like a seltzer, and then in the aftertaste it’s like, “is that malt or something?”
Really bizarre given both are supposed to be spiced beers. Has anyone else had this experience? Maybe we got a bad batch? Kind of scratching my head and curious if others have had a similar experience.
