Best craft beer in/near Nolita/Soho? Also, other new breweries elsewhere?

I'm staying in Nolita for a few days but will likely head to Brooklyn for at least one day of exploration. It's been a long time since I've been out this way, and would like to enjoy some quality local craft beer that doesn't make it out west.

I like everything from lager beer, cask ale, dry and hoppy pale ales and IPAs, porters, brett/wild/spontaneous, or Belgian style or Abbey ales.

Not so into hazy, fuity kettle sours, or adjunct imperial stouts.

Any NA Beer events going on for Dry January?

I know Talea has NA beer flights at all of its locations that I am absolutely going to check out. Two years ago... there was a bar at the bottom of Essex Market, it is now closed, but they had a whole NA beer event. Anyone know of stuff like that going on this month?

Best Domestic Lager Pour in NYC (I know it is kinda stupid)

After exploring craft beers and visiting many excellent taprooms and breweries in NYC, I’ve been wondering: Are there any bars in the city that focus on serving domestic lagers like Budweiser or Coors on draft, but with the same level of care and attention typically reserved for craft beers?

I know these beers are common in sports bars, but the draft often tastes off, possibly due to poorly maintained lines or unfresh kegs. I’ve had Budweiser on draft in St. Louis, where it’s brewed, and it tasted vastly different—much better—than from a can or a mediocre pour.

In Japan, domestic lagers like Asahi or Sapporo are treated with great respect, served super fresh with perfect glassware, carbonation, and thoughtful food pairings. I’m curious if such a place exists in NYC for domestic lagers.

Best shelf available lagers and pilsners?

Hey guys, staying near Washington square park the next few days and I’ve definitely been on a big lager/pils kick. Any suggestions? I’d take suggestions on good bars/breweries as well but mainly looking for what 4 packs I should buy. Thanks!

Hazy IPAs or Sours

I’m putting together a gift basket for a friend who loves hazy IPAs and sours. Do you have any recommendations for single bottles I can find at the grocery store (Food Emporium seems to have a big selection of singles?) or places I can find singular bottles?

Which bars in NYC have the best porter and stout selection?

I've become a fan of porters and stouts as of late, but unfortunately, most bars only offer Guinness. Guinness is great, but I'd like to go somewhere that offers more options. What are some places worth checking out?

A new LHBS is coming to Brooklyn...announcing Forever Homebrewing

I know all the homebrewers in the Five Boroughs were devastated by the recent closure of Bitter & Esters. For 13 years they served as a wonderful shop and pillar of the homebrew community in the city. It seems insane that a city with at least 4 homebrew clubs wouldn't have a local shop.

So my business partner Matt and I decided to do something about it.

We are excited to announce the impending launch of Forever Homebrewing! We will be based in Brooklyn, not far from the old B&E location.

We are currently in the final stages of planning for our launch! We signed our lease yesterday and will start building out the store this week.

At first, we will only offer in store pick up or delivery, as our location will not be in a traditional storefront. In addition, at launch we will only be stocking malt, hops, yeast, and some other basics (like PBW and Star San), but please let us know what other things you would like to see us stock. We'll inform everyone of our longer term plans as they become more concrete, but we do plan to eventually move into a space that offers a more typical retail experience.

Please sign up with your email at our website foreverhomebrewing.com so that you can stay up to date as we move toward opening! If all goes well we plan to open in December.

Thanks!

-Rob

Still crawling

Had a good time yesterday in LIC. Started out at Greats of Craft. Great list and bartender was very helpful. Did 5th Hammer, Focal Point, Finback, finally made it Ale Wife. Been to LIC numerous times and never made over. Trivia was happening and it was super busy, but the bartender was still able to chat some and traded some Three’s cans for Halfway Crooks we brought from Atlanta. Finished the night at Beer St. North which we really enjoyed before heading back to the room.

ISO Treehouse or Trillium IPAs

Doing a beer trade with a Swedish friend and he’s asking for King JJJulius but I think would be happy with any well-regarded west coast style IPA.

According to Untappd, I can’t find these anywhere within 100 miles. Any chance I’m missing something and there’s somewhere I can snag some cans?

Strongbow is in Midtown East?

In NYC for a long weekend and there seem to be a bunch of Pubs within walking distance but I’m yet to find a place with Strongbow Dry Cider. Would love to be pointed in the right direction.

Greenpoint Beer taproom closing this Sunday, 11/3

Announced on their Instagram. I'm not sure how I feel about this- I kind of saw it coming after they moved and I visited the new location for the first time, but it comes across kind of abrupt- they have some kind of private event on their last day, but the wording of the post makes it sound like this has been known for a while? They say the brand isn't going away, but I'm not sure how much traction they have anymore.

NYC Brewery Birthday Trip. Need help planning out an easy plan of attack.

Hello all!

Planning a 40th birthday trip in March on a Saturday. Plan to hit up Finback (Brooklyn), Evil Twin (DUMBO), Three's Brewing, Grimm, and ending up at Other Half Rockefeller. Would be staying near Times Square. It looks like Grimm is the farthest out. Is it easy to take a subway/train out to Grimm and then hit the Brooklyn places and snag a train back to OH?

Just looking for any input.

Thanks!

What's up with Torch & Crown?

Saw a fundraiser posted on GoFundMe - https://www.gofundme.com/f/crowdfunding-severance-for-former-torch-crown-brewers?qid=2f2cc627fa0dca5e64a4e1db9bf54d23

I’m a friend and colleague of the now former Torch and Crown production team. They were abruptly let go last week with out Notice, Severance or PTO pay out.

Someone also commented on one of their Instagram posts that they do this every year.
