Where to find Bottles (or Cans) of Old Rasputin Imperial Stout?

Hey folks,

I was wondering if there were any bottle shops in New Orleans where I can find a bottle of Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout?

Where to get a 1/6 barrel keg of Ghost in the Machine?

Obviously I can make the trip to Broussard, but I was wondering if there's a place in New Orleans that can provide me with a 1/6 barrel key of Ghost in the Machine. Does anybody know?

[Monthly Thread] New Beer Releases!

This is a monthly release thread for all the latest beer releases in the New Orleans and surrounding areas. Have insight in to a local release coming out? Tried a recent release and want to throw down your opinion on it? This is the thread for that!

Couple quick rules:

  • Don't like the beer? That's great! Be honest if it isn't your style but also constructive since the brewers do read the comments for feedback to improve recipes!
  • Like the beer?! Awesome! Include some feedback about what you really liked about it or is it just your go-to style that never does you wrong?

Please keep things civil and constructive!

MOD NOTE: This will be a monthly post on the 2nd of every month.

Brewstock update: the co-op buyout is moving forward, needs commitments/pledges

Hey y'all, following up on the last post about Brewstock closing and the Big Easy Homebrewers trying to spearhead a consumer co-op to buy it. The current owner seems willing to work with the co-op to make this happen.

First, the co-op effort needs commitments for funding. Currently, the projection is $1000 per person to buy one share. You absolutely can commit more, but as a co-op, you will still only be entitled to one share and one vote. This is an investment in the hobby and community, because if we don't pull this off, Brewstock will close without any replacement for the foreseeable future. If you're able and willing to commit to a $1000 buy in,, please email support@savebrewstock.com with your commitment. They are not asking for this money yet, just a commitment to it. There will be owner benefits, but this is not a typical business investment anyone should expect to get rich off of. Again, they're mostly trying to save a local resource for local homebrewers. If you are a local homebrewer, please consider buying in.

Second, there is a GoFundMe to pay for the legal set up specifically. This is separate from any commitment to buy in to the co-op, but they need to have a lawyer draft up the actual legal documents to create the co-op structure, purchase agreement, etc. If you're able and feel strongly about preserving Brewstock as a local resource for homebrewers, please consider contributing. The GoFundMe is here: https://gofund.me/535b6ed3

Final note: I am not directly involved here, I'm just a member of the Big Easy Homebrewers and I feel strongly about using co-ops to keep local businesses local. I can answer some general questions, but Greg who is president of the BEH and spearheading this effort can get more specific. Comment here and I'll do my best to answer questions, or Greg can be reached at the email address above.

For the local homebrewers, our local homebrew supply is likely closing / for sale

Some customers received an email today from the owner, Oliver, saying he was cutting back hours at the store and beginning to liquidate inventory. He is interested in selling the business if anyone is interested.

Sad day for us homebrewers who found the store a fantastic resource, and Oliver himself was knowledgeable as fuck. Best of luck to him in future endeavors.

Hopefully I can get another recipe or two worth of shit before he closes up for good...

Stores that carry the most diverse beer options??

My fiancee and I are getting married in New Orleans. We really wanted to include our favorite beers from the Colorado scene as our unique drink, but I’m finding it impossible to find the beers I want in Louisiana. Recently learned it’s illegal to ship alcohol too. Anyway, any mass liquor stores I should look at before giving up?

Parish Availability

I will be visiting NOLA soon and would really like to try some Parish beers for the first time. What is their availability like? Does Parish do much distribution to normal retailers like grocery stores, or would I need to look in a bottle shop? If the latter, which shops do you recommend?

Anyone know where to find cans of NOLA brewing Light lager?

I enjoy the nola blonde but just discovered they make a light lager. Trying to see where I can get them besides going directly to the brewery

Welcome Deadbeat Brewing in Hammond!

Congrats to Deadbeat Brewing for opening this weekend in Hammond. Looks like a laid back house in a neighborhood converted into a brewery with a big pond view.

Best of luck to them, good excuse for people in New Orleans to head out to Hammond for the day to check out them and Gnarly Barley, Low Road, etc.

Anybody check em out/have any pics or opinions on the beer?

Curious about co-brewing

I've noticed some national stories about brewers/brands sharing breweries to save money. Tanks, canning lines, etc. I'm curious if that would be allowed here? I lived in San Diego for years and there are some fantastic beers there, but you can't find them here. In fact the only California beer I see here in stores and on tap is Laugunitas. Could a brewer from another state partner with a local brand to share their facilities for regional distribution?

Bulldog Pint Glassed

I have a fair amount of bull dog pint glasses. They are all probably at least 10-15 years old.

Is it possible that any of them are valuable?

Bywater Brewpub is shutting down at the end of June

Supposedly only for the summer - people I've heard talk about it didn't seem very optimistic though. The building has been for sale for a while.

Mad respect to Sonny, but they never got the beer to be excellent across the board, and the post-Anh kitchen was, quite bluntly, bad. Sandwiched between two truly excellent breweries, they really needed that food to draw people in...

I had hoped the full bar could keep them going as they continued to improve beer recipes and maybe find another great kitchen option, but here we are.

Go have a beer. Wish Sonny more success in the future. Skip the food.

Where to get RO water in Jefferson parish?

I recently moved here from BR and I home brew. In BR there were two locations that I could get RO (reverse osmosis) water dispensed for $0.25/ gallon on the side of the road (like an ice machine). Does anyone here know of anywhere (ideally in JP) that has a RO water dispenser?

Double Jucifer

Former NOLA transplant that returned home (Philly) during Covid but fell in love with lots of beers while I lived down there, Jucifer in particular.

Saw that Gnarly Barley is releasing Double Jucifer and I need a 4 pack in my life.

Anyone willing to pick one up for me? Can trade you a four pack of something good from up here (Tonewood, Human Robot, Tired Hands etc) or pay for the beer, postage and hassle. Let me know. Thanks!
