I just recently took a job that has me in office 2-3 days a week, I’m traveling from Glen Arm to Columbia and back. Aside from the summer months is there anything that might provide relief from the congestion prior to a new bridge? Or is a 70 minute commute my life for the next 3 years.
I probably know the answer, but it would be nice to have something sooner to look forward to…
My boyfriend and I are moving from suburban/rural St. Louis to Maryland this summer. Yesterday I applied to rent a rather nice and rather expensive home in Fort Washington. I did a quick crime check on the immediate area before I applied and didn't see anything concerning. However, after looking up Oxon Hill (which seems very close) I saw mixed reviews on Reddit.
Although the home is in Fort Washington and near a large wooded area, it's only about 7 minutes from the Oxon Hill shopping area/library. For some additional context, without being too specific, it's about a mile south of the Rosecroft Raceway as well.
Looking at google maps, the neighborhood seems nice. The photos were taken in 2023 and most homes were updated. Unfortunately, the there's a small stretch of street right around the home we would be renting which has photos from 2012 that look markedly less nice. It seems the homes were largely updated in the neighborhood since then, but it's hard to tell due to the old maps images directly in front of and around the home.
We are looking to understand:
PS - If anyone is in the area and knows the neighborhoods well, please DM me and I can give a more specific information about the area to get a more accurate understanding.
Edit: Thank you all so much for your feedback... I think I am going to cancel my application. Although the house is absolutely stunning and it's everything we are looking for, the area is a huge dealbreaker. Usually I have scary dog privilege with my 100lb dog, but I saw posts from this area where people are carjacking cars with scarier looking dogs than mine. :') If my dog can't even save me I'm screwed.
I just saw the second piano in two weeks right after you exit Schwan road does anyone know why they are there 😂. One was standing right up. If you know tell me.
Hello,
I am planning on moving to DC from California to attend grad school at UMB. Unfortunately my first choice campus of Baltimore is full so they placed me in the Shady Grove campus. I have a few questions.
I don’t mind commuting to campus if the housing area is safe, lively, and affordable for a grad student as I’d still like to experience the college experience. I also would need roommates as to make the living situation cheaper so no studio or 1 bed options please.
Thank you!
Filed status says Processed , and it's deduced from my balance , does this mean I'm paid but haven't gotten it yet? I selected check
Dali after the Key Bridge detonation today. Oof.
Hey everyone! I'm looking to get my kitchen remodeled. I own a town house, with a relatively small space for my kitchen. I specifically would like to work with a contractor who specializes in small space kitchens. It feels like a lot that I've talked to want to do the big single family homes, and see my project as a side project to fit in between the bigger jobs. I am very curious to know if anyone here has worked with a contractor like that. I am in Howard County.
I recently bought a used car, and my scheduled emissions date is in September. However, I will not be in MD in September and not until the following summer. Is it possible to get the emissions testing done now? I tried the kiosk with my title, but it didn’t allow me to do it.
Any news about the accident on I-270? Waze has both north and south closed, but I can’t find any reports on it.
Hello! As the title suggests I’m considering trading in my Maryland car for a new car in Florida. I just moved from Maryland to Florida, so I’ll have a new Florida license.
What do I need to do to make sure it doesn’t bite me in the butt? I know ultimately going to trade it in and some point so I don’t see the use in registering it Florida if I’m going to trade it in? Or would it be easy if I just bit the bullet and got it registered and then traded it in?

I went to the Boston Bruins playoff game in Boston yesterday and yelled "O!!!!!!!" during the anthem.
I have been out of state dealing with the passing of a loved one, so I have not had time to do my usual research on the two main candidates in the Dem Primary for US Senate. There seem to be pluses and minuses for each of them. I'd like to reach out to this group and ask for responses only from those voting in tomorrow Dem primary.
I'm a "practical progressive" which means I agree with the domestic policy goals of the progressives, but do notnagree with many of the tactics. Change is slow, so people like Bernie Sanders or "the squad" trying to force change all at once do more harm than good for their own causes.
So my question boils down to this: can Alsobrooks beat Hogan in the general? If yes, then she's my choice, if Trone has a significantly better chance, then he's my choice. If there's a good chance Hogan will lose the primary (is there?) then I'll also go with Alsobrooks. That's it, I see little daylight between them in terms of policy.
Thank you.
Posting as an addition to another user’s post from Antietam. Got very lucky with clouds and sun. Many many times have I tried the same thing without success. Beautiful place to walk around even if you aren’t a history buff.
