Wargaming at FSU

Is there a wargaming group at the college? I live nearby and am always looking for people to play 40k with. There's a local group but alot don't actually seem to play much.

I drove through FSU this weekend, first time in nearly 10 years

So I went to FSU from '07-'11. I did not return until '15 when my wife and I made a weekend trip to see Chris Daughtry. Fast forward to this weekend I went to my brother in laws wedding in Frostburg and drove through the campus.

I simply did the loop starting from Park Ave pointed at Gunter and Framptom Halls after driving past the "Mud Lot" idk if you all still call it that. So much was the same, but so much was drastically different.

First visible change was the big Brownsville Hall behind the Cafe. Also whatever the building that seems to connect the Lane center and the gym via skywalks. Police seem to have a 3x bigger building on the top corner of the campus near Old Main. In town, every bar I knew of is gone, but Gianni's which was "the pizza place of choice" during my time is still there.

Gandalfs restaurant and pub in Frostburg, MD

Hello, there used to be a a restaurant called gandalfs in frostburg, I was told it was closed but I know it used to give out coins of Gandalf when it was still in business, I was wondering if anyone had any details on where I could get one of those coins? My partner lost their coin and that place was a big part of their childhood, looking to get one as a gift for them, any information helps!

Hey, just wondering how long it’s taken people in the past to hear back from housing assignments? I just submitted mine and am curious. Thanks!

Application Portal Problems

I’m currently applying to Frostburg for fall 2024, and I was sent an email after my application was submitted that had a link to sign into my portal. Whenever I try to log in though, it just sends me straight to an Office365 account with the email that Frostburg made for me. Is there a separate portal link I was supposed to receive or am I just dumb and doing something wrong? TIA 🫶

I’m planning on attending fall 2024, I have some questions.

The real reason I plan to apply to frostburg is because it’s the only school in the state that has a wildlife and fisheries program. The more I look around, the more it seems like people have an overwhelmingly negative experience at the school. Is it still possible to have a “college experience” at frostburg? On my visit there, everything looked a bit run down and sad. If I’m going to spend the next four years of my life somewhere I really don’t want to hate it the whole time.

r/Frostburg is open for business!

It took sometime, but thanks to reddits help I was able to boot the old moderators who locked up the subreddit (I assume for some political reason, but I cannot confirm).

Come on back and post about FSU and the town of Frostburg!

Just moved to Cumberland

Not sure if this is active, but I just moved to Cumberland and I’m looking for things to do. I was shocked to find out that none of the hiking clubs on meetup are anywhere near here. Hiking, anyone? I’m recovering from mobility issues so I’m beginner level again, and would love to check out hiking areas with a partner/partners.

Also interested in any social activities. Actually there wasn’t much on meet up at all save for a writing group (which I plan to attend) so I figured I’d turn to Reddit.

The other day I asked some locals around my age what they do to meet people around here and the answers were basically that no one meets anyone around here 😭 But I’m sure there are people like me looking to get together and have some fun!

I’m coming from the Baltimore area and down there I was into social dancing, the Baltimore psychedelic society, yoga, walking, lots of live music, and other random things. I’d love to get into new things too!

Housing Recommendations

I am not so sure if this is going to get any reception as it seems this thread isn’t too popular but I figured it was worth a chance. I have already gone through some of the older posts to see what everyone has to say but I wanted to see if there is possibly any newer information for my question. I just recently accepted a grad position at FSU and am having the hardest time finding housing, like even to the point where I might have to back out from the job. If anyone has any recommendations I will gladly listen! Also to those that say they stayed in the area after graduation and such, do you enjoy living in Frostburg? I am already coming from a slightly smaller town in Md but feel like the transition still might be difficult for me.

Moving to the area soon - furniture recs

Moving to Frostburg in August for grad school. I'm trying to plan out things I'll need for my place. Any good places to get furniture that will last my 5 years there? I'm on the search for a mattress, couch, TV stand, coffee table, kitchen appliances, etc. Is FB marketplace/Craigslist used in the area? Thanks!

FSU experience and worth

I’m deciding which college I want to transfer to and Frostburg is one of my options. Is there a good party scene? I will be getting my bachelors in business. is it worth it at FSU or should I go to a different school?

Daily visit location

I'm a hs student and I signed up for one of the daily visits on the 22nd. I never received a confirmation, and it's not in my spam folder either.

I signed up again just to see if I would get anything, no dice. Anyone know where I'm supposed to go?

Hello everyone, I’m hoping to get some feedback on the online Applied Computer Science master’s program at Frostburg State University from graduates or current students. If anyone has heard anything about the program or has attended the program, your responses will be greatly appreciated.

Generally, how is/was the program? Job prospects? etc.

FSU Party Spots

So me and my partner might very well be locating to Frostburg (basically in the middle of where our hometowns/family are, also job opportunities have sprung up quickly for us in Allegany CO). Being from a college town myself, I understand parties and lots of noise come with the territory. I wasn't too worried about it until I saw some youtube vlogs and it looked pretty crazy, especially at the 711 at night and Outback Lounge.

Where are some bars/establishments that aren't jam packed and what streets or sections of streets would I need to avoid so I wouldn't hear partiers party hopping from place to place if I were to buy a house? And just for the record I am not against College Students partying or doing what they do, it is College after all. I just don't want to be a part of it lol.

Lost dog, Sienna, rescued Rhodesian Ridgeback

Lost dog, please help!

My friend and his family were in a car accident shortly before 11 pm Monday 6-September near mile marker 38 on Interstate 68 (I68) near La Vale, on the outskirts of Cumberland, MD.

The lost dog, Sienna, got scared and ran out of the car. Since the accident, Sienna may have been seen close to mile marker 40 / exit 40 on the eastbound side of I68. Both of these exits are for La Vale.

Sienna is a rescued Rhodesian Ridgeback, 6yrs old, fairly lean, 40-45 lbs.

She’s very timid but friendly. Pictures attached. She was wearing the collar as shown in the photos.

Sienna's human is John, and he and his family miss Sienna terribly. Please contact him at 202-437-2838 or jfwalsh1127@gmail.com. You can also reply to this thread here.

There is a $400 reward for the Safe return of Sienna.

Please help!

Got academically dismissed. Can I reapply?

So I got academically dismissed from the M.S. in Applied Computer Science program in 2019. I suppose my actual reasons for flunking out aren't very relevant, but I'll just say the combo of things going on at work and in my personal life caused me to overextend myself to the point that I couldn't devote the time needed to do a graduate program.

Well, 2020 kind of changed all that. Now I have more than ample time to devote to grad school. My wife is also looking to pursue her masters degree too, so now would be a good time to go back to school.

But is Frostburg out of the cards for me now? Sure there are other choices. There's always UMGC/UMUC. I'm also actually already enrolled at Arizona State, so I can possibly do their online masters in computer science too. But Frostburg's Applied Computer Science program looks good to me because of the database specialization and for the price. Plus, I can drive up to campus if I ever needed to for whatever reason. So getting back into Frostburg would be ideal.

Have you sought out mental health services during the pandemic?

Hi! I'm a student journalist working for the Capital News Service at the University of Maryland. We're working on a story about college student mental health service utilization during the COVID-19 pandemic and want to get some student perspective from multiple schools in Maryland. We are looking for both undergraduate and graduate students who've sought out mental health services (either through school or off-campus) during the pandemic. If you are willing to be interviewed, DM me or drop a comment below!
