Im a freshman at UMD and im about to add food science as a double major. I know it’s a small department (the basement office kind of reminded me of a dungeon LOL) but I have yet to meet anyone else on campus majoring in food science. Could anyone in the major let me know how the major , resources, and department is overall? Also if anyone has any tips on how to get more involved with the major!
I'm a student too and I want to know what you all think about the election. Do you think that because Trump wants to get rid of a lot of governmental departments including department of education that will affect the universityl interms of enrollment and the financial aid they give out? Do you think that the university will step up if he actually gets rid of Federal aid? And do you think that without a lot of the funding that UMD probably gets from the government they might start cutting things? Even mention anything else you can think of that might be affected from Trump's plan.
Hi everyone!
I am planning to transfer to UMD due to me relocating for my job. I want to know how flexible courses are at UMD. I currently go to UMBC and this campus is a little far of a reach to commute from work and back (around an hour, tends to be more). But that's besides the point. If anyone of you are kind of enough to give the spiel about how courses are like at UMD in terms of registration, lecture locations, maybe even parking, that would be great. UMD is a great school to transfer to but I'd like to know some insider things before making that decision.
I wish you the best!
Trying to pack snacks for a trip soon
thinking about interning in nyc this summer but have no clue on how to go about housing. if anyone has any tips or experience with this please share!! i’ll be working in lower manhattan/near finance district!
Idk
A night or two ago I saw a guy stride into 251 with some friends. He had two giant literal balls (basketballs?) underneath his t shirt. I saw someone approach him, ask for a photo, and while it was being taken he pulled the guy's head down to his (basket?)balls. Did any of you also witness this? No idea what to do with this information, so I am putting it here so you can share in my sense of "what now." I wish I hallucinated this tbh but it indeed occured.
Hey guys! I'm an intl student...1470 SAT (790 M and 680 EBRW) 3.7 GPA...I don't have many ecas though. Is there a chance of getting into umd with these stats? i see people with higher gpas getting rejected and umd is getting more and more competitive😭
Is it possible to double minor? Like for ex. RE Dev and law?
Am currently doing extremely badly in two courses, non-major required, and am looking at 68 on both. I’m having some personal circumstances regarding my housing and family seriously effecting my mental health this semester which is definitely not helping but the coursework has just not clicked this entire semester on top of it. I’m wondering what if anything I can do regarding these grades? Who i’d need to speak to for options? I’m doing well in my other two courses and outside of this have maintained a high average outside of a B in english, which is what’s hurting me so badly mentally as well. Any advice on what to do would be helpful.
I’m currently wondering what classes are like stand outs to put on your resume once you pass them. I know a lot of internships for CS look for at least 132 right now so I’m just wondering what the equivalent is for Info Sci.
Hey just want to know if anybody over here is taking this courses I feel like they are going to be pretty rigorous it would be good if we can form a study group for this. Btw if anybody has taken these courses how were they and what would be good to look up before attaining these classes?
hi so i did an incomplete for a class last spring. i completed the work by the deadline on the incomplete contract, but once the deadline passed, my grade showed as an F on my transcript. my professor just put in the grades a few days ago and i've been checking to see if the F changed to my actual grade, but it hasn't. i was wondering if anyone had experience with this and knows how long it takes for the grade to change. thanks!
Any1 know if Kenneth Ingram is generous enough to round up. I have a low A and still a project book report and final. If it comes to it would he round me up?
For students who applied to college before 2020’s testing policy reinvention, it’s hard not to feel both envious of today’s increased flexibility and relief for avoiding the ensuing chaos.
Educators, researchers, parents and students for decades have argued that standardized testing, specifically in college admissions, is not an accurate measure of student potential and is often influenced by factors beyond academic knowledge.
In 2020, these arguments were thrust into national attention after more than 1,600 colleges and universities went test-optional for the 2020-21 application season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to FairTest. In 2022, the University of Maryland announced it would remain test-optional through the spring and fall 2025 admissions cycles, but has yet to permanently commit to a testing policy.

Hi everyone,
I'm currently enrolled as a part time student at a community college as an engineering transfer student. I plan to (hopefully) transfer to UMD in a couple of years and I'm looking for some information on the lectures at UMD.
I work full time so will need to be enrolled as a part time student, taking two classes per semester, and I will need to make arrangements in order to be off of work during class time. For engineering classes, how long are the lectures generally? Has anyone found themselves able to skip the lectures completely and just self-study and complete the homework assignments? Are there any part time students here who are working towards an engineering degree?
I'm so used to how things are at a community college, namely attendance being taken and quizzes being given in class, and I'm not really sure how much carry over there is between a community college experience vs a 4 year college experience. I would really prefer to not skip any classes at all, and hopefully I will be able to make it work.
Any insight is appreciated, thanks!!
i am being deadass
title. does edsp 376 cover the global engagement requirement?
No matter how interesting the content is (trust me I really do like the classes I take especially self learning it) I just cannot sit down in a chair and listen to someone lecture for an hour. Literally will zone out within the first 5 minutes
When I do assignments or even self study from a textbook I’m typically fine but I’m at the point where I can’t get by a class just by self learning everything 😀
Anyone experiencing similar issues? How have you solved it if so?! I really don’t want to skip my classes in the future :) it’s a bad cycle
Dating a TA is definitely a vibe. You just gotta keep it on the down low, though. I did it last fall with a TA from the Smith School, and honestly, it's kind of a win-win. You get some extra perks like better grades, but also the fun of sneaking around—like going to spots where no one knows you or having to be extra careful at social events. It's definitely a little risky, but kinda makes things more exciting and spicy.
Is there a class you guys would recommend that has open seats rn? (relatively easy and interesting)
Edit: satisfy*
I've done some research on MTAP and never found anything talking about if MTAP is hard to get into.. I know it's a lot easier to get into UMD through this program than simply applying however, how much easier?
Have you found a job yet? If so, what’s your role? How long did it take you to find a job? What’s your salary?
