Hey folks! I'm relocating from Silver Spring, MD to the West Coast around January 2025 and am looking for someone to take over my lease for a studio apartment-- send me a ping if you're interested! I moved during the pandemic for which my rate is below current market rate.
Details below:
Location: Downtown Silver Spring (Blair East)
Studio apartment (approximately 421 square feet)
Availability: January 2025 onwards
Rent: Under $1,390 (rent + utilities), with internet extra; total monthly bill is less than $1,500
Commute: Five-minute walk to Downtown Silver Spring Metro Station;
Amenities: On-site grocery store and numerous food and entertainment options within a 10-minute walk in Downtown Silver Spring
Hello all! I am looking for personal training/one on one fitness classes, and I came down to these two choices. Overall, I wanted to see which was better for a college student's budget, and what experiences, good or bad, you've had at each.
Thank you!
Any recommendations for a good shawarma spot near DTSS? I'm looking for one with a lot of toum and wrapped in a Kubz (The Iranian version)!
Hello everyone, I'm attending a show at The Fillmore on the 19th and it will be my first time down in that area. I was wondering about where is the best and safest place to park for the show.
Some info. Take it or leave it. Currently, in front of the Giant on East-West is a mother and 2 kids. These are members of the large Romanian family that has worked Silver Spring for years. You may have recently seen a news articles about a large ring from the same group https://patch.com/maryland/rockville/romanian-crime-group-members-arrested-string-moco-burglaries
From a law enforcement angle, they are trespassed from propererties and still return. They eventually are arrested. They never show up for court. At this point they move to the next area over. 2 that did not show up to court are now working the Dupont neighborhood in DC.
They provide fake IDs and "International Driver's License" when pulled over. They admit to law enforcement that they are not here legally so when they tell people they are refugees and just need help with rent, this is not true.
Please, give to our homeless neighbors who truly need any change just to get by. I watch elderly people giving them whole meals with their SSI money.

Trump is known to dislike D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, who enraged him by installing the “Black Lives Matter” street installation opposite his White House in 2020. “We will take over the horribly run capital of our nation,” Trump said at one campaign rally. “We’re going to take it away from the mayor. And again, that doesn’t make me popular there, but I have to say it.”
I've been hearing about this new law coming soon, well as of November 2024, juveniles can now be charged as young as 10. This is mostly in response to Auto Theft but also includes sex offenses, animal cruelty, gun violations. What are your thoughts? Do you think this will curb juvenile crime? It brings to mind the 12 y.o from DC who was constantly breaking into high-end car dealerships and when caught being turned over to his parent. If he does it now he can be charged.

Today 11/7, just before Noon, as I was at light on 29 North near the Bank of America, heard many gunshots. Thought was a car backfire, until I kept hearing more shots. Anyone know what's going on. My friend called to say they heard many sirens, police and ambulance.
In need of suggestions for a baseball field to use for a friendly adult pick up kickball game this week - preferably near the downtown Silver Spring area, I’ll greatly appreciate the info!
They break ground early next year, hopefully, and I have a little list of what I would want to see:
1. More high-quality retail offerings, maybe a Whole Foods or a Mom’s Market. While I know this is a pipe dream, maybe Wegmans.
2. Relatively affordable housing. They say there will be townhomes; if they could start at the high $200s to low $300s, I think that would make it appealing to new residents. Maybe the condos they want to build could range from the low $200s to mid $200s.
3. Maybe slightly affordable single-family options in the high $300s to low $400s—I doubt it, though.
Thanks for reading! Just wanted to have a discussion. What do you guys want there?
Hi all - looking to taste test the best tres leches cakes in the area. We used to rely on one bakery but the quality has fallen off recently.
This would be served at our wedding. We will probably have a small cake for pictures, but this cake could come in sheet pan form or in multiple cakes to feed up to 100. Thanks in advance for any recs!
32 M in Laurel, MD. I used to play bass in a doom metal band but play guitar too. I prefer to stay on bass.
I want to play either doom metal again or death n roll-type stuff (think Entombed). Nothing too hard to learn or play, but succinct songs focusing on a few nasty riffs each. I don't have a jam space. Who's down?
So I recently learned the benefits of getting renter’s insurance and wanted to ask: does anyone have recommendations on insurance companies they like? I’m looking for one that is relatively inexpensive, but more importantly is responsive in their customer service.
Hi. I am looking to move to Silver Spring by end of November. I read the reviews on many apartment complexes- they are scary! The apartments are very expensive and the reviews are just awful.
There are two apartments I like - Falkland Chase (old but looks good) and Silver Spring House apartments (very spacious, and the leasing manager seems very friendly). Anyone has lived in these places and can share their experiences?
Also, if anyone has better recommendations please share.
Hi- wondering if the water is warm for open swim? Especially in the dive pool. Thank you!
I know this was posted in here before, but the MoCo Show article said it would open in September. It is now November and it still looks nowhere near being ready. Is it going to ever actually happen? It almost looks like it was abandoned every time I drive by it.
Looking for games near downtown Silver Spring, anyone has any idea where people gather around and play?
Besides Solaire Social , will any restaurants be showing election results.Nothing that requires a cover. I don't feel like going to Tacoma or DC , mainly because I want to go to a place in walking distance. It would have been cool for Veterans Plaza did something, but they are a voting site.
Hi! This is just an idea as of now, I wanted to gauge interest.
I love cooking and cookbooks but I almost NEVER cook from them.
Would love to start a cookbook club, the thought is to cook dishes from a specific book. Thinking 2 times a month, some cooking, some chatting, some community! :)
I know this is no great revelation but I'm so fed up with the amount of screws and nails on the roads around SS. I just got my fourth tire patch in 18 months and now I found another screw and slow leak today. I'm in the thick of purple line work so I'm sure that's to blame but the frequency seems insanely high. Is anyone else having this issue?
We went to First Watch today, the server said it was their first Sunday open. Everything on the menu looked delicious but I had blueberry pancakes and they were very good, would definitely order again. My partner had an omelette which came with a salad and toast, also wonderful. The service was great, very friendly and they were quite busy. Really excited to have a new option in the area!
We saw a sign on the door of Dave’s Hot Chicken that said November 15 for their opening, so that’s coming soon too. Jersey Mike’s had signage but looked less far along.
Hi, I am strongly considering moving into Blair Towns--but I'm not clear on the set up. I am going to tour the place soon but just wanted to get some insight. Are the residences walk ups? Are there small elevators in the buildings or just steps? I'm just thinking about the difficulty with moving, with stairs. Also, are there trash chutes in the buildings or do you have to go outside to take out your trash? Thank you!
Like the title says, I’m going on a work trip for a week soon. Usually I park in the public garages which has worked so far. But, I don’t know if that’s an okay place to leave my car for a week unattended?
I know you all can’t predict the future, but any advice?
Also, I’m ubering to the airport bc work covers ubers, not airport parking.
Hi, we live in a 1BR in DTSS but are planning to move into a bigger apartment and were considering Alexander House. Is there anyone here who lives in and around that block and can tell us whether construction has been noisy and whether it's going to be noisy for a considerable time? I found some info about construction in that area from past posts but just trying to find out what the current situation is from the horse's mouth. Thanks!
I just moved here and live in DTSS. I've taken many weeks off due to the move but am looking to get back into going to an occasional pub trivia. I've been doing "quiz night"/bar trivia for a few years now and really enjoy it. What are good places in the area for me to go? Also, if you have a team and are open to a new guy joining, let me know. I think I'm relatively decent, and while I like to focus on getting the questions right, losing the game won't ruin my night.
I'm fine driving somewhere but would prefer DTSS. Thanks in advance
Hi, just wanted to get opinions of the summit hills apartments in silver spring. I was told by a few people on this sub to stay away from white oak? I’m looking for relatively fair priced apartments to my work commute in dtss. Thanks!
