I’m fed up with SMO and their ways.
In other news, we’ve had no heat or hot water for a few days and it’s getting old.
Does anyone know of an HVAC company or contractor who can service/install/advise on heating/cooling equipment, and one who also won’t just screw me to make money?
Hi all! I’m a 23F looking for things to do in the SOMD area. I just moved here a couple months ago after college and haven’t really met anybody here yet. I like anime, video games, reading, hiking, etc. If you have any suggestions or want to be friends let me know!

Would anybody happen to know when the Walmart in Prince Frederick restocks its Pokémon cards?
I’d like to join this craze. Any guidance for a novice in St. Mary’s County?
Just taking a shot here. My wife and I are social people and love hanging out with friends. But since becoming parents it’s so difficult to do anymore without rearranging schedules and/or racking up bills on a night out.
How nice it would be to find another couple in a similar situation, and build a friendship while our kids entertain each other.
I’d rather spend money on pizza and party games than bar tabs and babysitters. And I’d rather shoot darts, listen to music and hang out with friends instead of trying to make conversation with strangers in a noisy bar.
We used to have friends that we trusted enough to stay the night if we drank too much. Now we just spend Friday evenings trying to figure out where to go that it’s worth spending money.
Having kids makes it all more difficult. But it’s definitely not impossible to meet new people and make new friends.
Anybody else in the same situation?
Howdy all! It's snowing (wooo!) and the roads are slick. As a snow-loving fiend in a past life that grew up driving in icy conditions, here are a few things to keep you (and other folks around you) safe:
Don't drive in the snow if you don't have to. Yeah, yeah, you've got a big truck. Big trucks weigh more, are harder to stop, and just slide farther. Your truck/SUV doesn't allow you to defy the laws of physics.
If you MUST drive for work or health reasons, keep a BIG gap between you and the car in front of you. Now is NOT the time to tail gate. Four wheel drive doesn't mean four wheel stop.
Give yourself 3-4x as much time to stop as normal. Pretend your grandma is in the back seat with an open container of scalding-hot gravy on her lap (and if you don't like your grandma, pretend you do for today).
Go slow. Seriously. Like 25-30 MPH unless the road is dry. BE THE GRANDMA. EMBRACE YOUR INNER GRANDMA. Going fast and passing folks just makes you more likely to end up in a ditch than your destination. It's better to arrive late than never.....
- Tips over. Rant below -
I get that 8-10 inches of snow is nothing in a lot of other parts of the US. However, we don't have the massive fleet of plows, salt trucks, and sand/gravel trucks to keep the roads as safe here in SOMD. Other folks here also don't know how to drive in these conditions and are less likely to have snow tires or all weather tires which just makes things that much more dangerous.
A crash doesn't impact just you. It could take someone away from their family. It could cause an electrical blackout that deprives people with heat pumps from staying warm. It forces emergency responders to also leave from their own safety to help you out. You aren't cool because you drove, you just put others in danger. Again, if you don't actually have to drive, just don't.
If it means anything to you at all, I used to go to abandoned parking lots and practice driving (aka "playing" haha) on snow, slush, and ice almost every night in Colorado after snow storms and I did that for years. Even though I've got ice driving to a science, I can drift and recover in it like a pro, I've got an all-wheel drive SUV, and I could probably drive circles around most of you in these conditions, I'M STAYING HOME. It's not worth hurting myself, other people, or footing a massive car repair bill.
And lastly, if you absolutely must drive to get a liver transplant, because a loved one fell and needs help, or something is ACTUALLY an emergency, bundle up. Bundle up and make sure you have a full tank of gas in case you get stuck and need to wait for help. Today is not the day for gym shorts or yoga pants and junk shoes.
Searching for a new stylist that’s great is experienced with color and extensions. St. Mary’s or Calvert County.
Seems like everywhere we go it’s overpriced and subpar. Just want to get a couple of drinks and some appetizers without feeling like I just paid for a full-blown night out.
Anybody know of a place with decent happy hour drinks and a kitchen that knows what they’re doing?
Looking for recommendations for the best steak in SoMD. And I don't mean Outback, Longhorn , or T.R. Is there a hidden gem around here that just doesn't get the love it deserves? There are a dozen great sea food places that every local knows about, but I've never heard anyone praise a great steak they had in the tri-county area.
What do you recommend based on quality, location, ambiance,...?
Thanks in advance.
Hi! I am looking for any store in the area that may have Christmas wrapping paper in stock (closer to Charlotte Hall would be great). Every year we travel for the holidays and Santa leaves a few presents at our home for the kids.
I meant to grab paper from my parents house but I forgot. I’ve been to two stores already with no luck. Kids return in a couple days. Has anyone seen any around?
Thanks!
I live in Lusby, Calvert County, in non critical area. I have one shed already. Is there a limit to number of sheds I can have? Im planning on maybe adding one more next to it, under 150sqft, so no permit needed as far as I can tell. From the dumb AI google feature, it says only one is allowed, but I have not found confirmation on Calvert Counties site.
Is there a good touchless carwash around? If not is there a pretty decent do it yourself stall that actually works?
Hello SoMD people, I was wondering if anyone has any piercing shop recommendations. Ideally in/around the Lexington Park area! Thanks in advance!
I was given quite a few suggestions that helped. I learned there was a jazz ensemble concert at St Mary’s College before the due date, so I went and ended up with a B on that project because the teacher took off for spelling errors and said a few of the terms I used he felt I had just thrown in to have terms from class be used. What made me mad, though, is I did the project on time and got a B, but the professor hadn’t looked at the events for CSM when he just slapped the link for them into the assignment page and therefore didn’t know the concerts CSM was going to put on weren’t until after the review was due. Hence, he said anyone who attended one would not lose points for being late. People still didn’t do it, and he made an announcement on the class page last Friday saying how many people had done that assignment. If people did it by the end of the day yesterday, they would lose some points for lateness, but it'd otherwise be treated as though it got turned in on time. I completed the project on time, but I feel I'm being given the middle finger.
Eligible residents from St Mary's, Calvert, and Charles Counties can receive a free HP Chromebook. The distribution event is at St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, District 4 Station, located at 21633 Great Mills Rd in Lexington Park. Spanish aid will be there as well. Links below for more info

Last market of the year.
Hey can anyone recommend a reliable car mechanic near Indian head or waldorf?
Thanks
22M finishing my senior year of college down here. Seems like most folks are here to raise families. Let me know if you've had/are having a similar experience, if you're looking for people to connect with, or if you have suggestions on how to connect with others.
Something howling in the woods down piney point, maryland just now scared the heck out of me. I Had to rush in the house. It's creepy at 11pm down here!
I was driving to St. Mary's College the other day, I believe was on Three Notches Road southbound, when I saw a sign that said something like, "Turkey hunt Oyster steam" and then gave a date, I think in December. I thought it was a church or community group or maybe a fire station fundraiser or something. It was on the right hand side of the road southbound. I'm curious about what this is, thanks in advance for any information!
I have a bunch of furniture that needs to be refinished: dining room table, chairs, dresser, etc. Anyone have any recommendations?
Here a little drone video of the Santa run. The community appreciates Santa and his crew coming out on a bitterly cold night to bring some much needed cheer to the community. ( I know this isn’t my best drone work but it’s hard flying at night in high winds)
I live in St. Mary’s (somewhat close to Leonardtown) and have gotten into skateboarding recently. Both parks are roughly the same distance away from me, so I was curious: would either of them be the better option for safety/popularity? Also for beginners as somewhere to learn/practice? Any and all info on them would be appreciated.
Heading back to Pax next year and someone told me crime has gone way up in the past couple of years in the GM/LP area. Any truth to that?
