Crofton Golf Stream Restoration June 2024

June 2024-Crofton Golf Stream (Beaver Creek) Restoration Project – To meet the requirements of the NPDES MS4 permit, a tributary of Crofton Golf Stream (aka “Beaver Creek”) is in the process of restoration. The project proposes to restore approximately 1,300 linear feet of stream. The stream is located in between Davidsonville Road and Crofton Parkway near its intersection with Lang Drive. The Anne Arundel County Bureau of Watershed Protection & Restoration (BWPR) staff presented the goals and plans for this project at a community meeting last May.

In its existing condition, this tributary is highly eroded and making it a significant source of nutrient and sediment loads to the Little Patuxent River. The primary goals of this project are to improve hydrologic, hydraulic, geomorphic, water quality, and biological functionality.

The project timeline is June through October. See map below for project locations. For additional information on this project see https://www.aacounty.org/public-works/engineering/capital-projects.

A Study on Potential Jurors in Maryland

Greetings All!

You are invited to participate in the dissertation research study entitled “The CSI Effect on potential jurors' expectations for digital evidence during court proceedings in Maryland.” The study has been approved by the University of the Cumberlands Institutional Review Board.

The purpose of this study is to understand how the CSI Effect impacts potential jurors' expectations and understanding of digital evidence during court proceedings in Maryland. The CSI Effect is a phenomenon that speaks to the population's exposure to criminal justice television shows (e.g. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Law & Order, etc.) that can shape how individuals view the criminal justice process. Potential participants will complete a survey titled “The CSI Effect and Digital Forensic Evidence Scale” to gauge their understanding of digital forensics and the criminal justice system.

Data collection will involve completing a 9-item survey, which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

If you are interested in participating in this study, please navigate to the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScszsu6hT_vFcAufrADeXh-tAJvRKXuXGebvgY351OSmRwQaA/viewform?usp=sf_link

Crofton Park Survey

SURVEY- CROFTON PARK

Dear Anne Arundel County Resident,

The Department of Recreation and Parks is considering new park amenities at a County-owned park site near you. To ensure that we meet your needs and preferences, we are seeking your input on the types of amenities preferred at each location as part of our Plan Your Park campaign. The campaign evaluates ten park sites for possible development of park and recreational uses, facilities, and amenities. Some of these locations are undeveloped as parks, and some would be expansion of current park amenities. It's important to note that not all sites will necessarily be developed with new amenities.

The identified sites include: Bacontown Russett Park, Central Avenue Park, Crofton Park, Jessup Elementary Park, Marley Creek Park, Riva Area Park, Rock Creek Park, Stoney Creek Park, Sullivan Park, and West County Park.

Working with planners and looking at the recreation needs identified in the 2022 Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan, and other County plans, Recreation & Parks identified demand, proximity, and equity needs in Anne Arundel County’s park system. Engineering consultants then surveyed the existing environmental conditions at each candidate site. Combining those efforts, the planning team has developed three preliminary conceptual designs for each candidate site, which incorporate the need-based and requested park uses, activities, features, and amenities with the required site development components (parking, stormwater management, utilities, etc.) to support those uses.

Please view the park concepts and provide feedback by visiting aarecparks.org/PlanYourPark. The survey will remain open through November. For more information on capital projects at Anne Arundel Recreation and Parks, please visit aarecparks.org/CapitalProjects. Any questions or further comments on Plan Your Park Campaign, please email: drp_capital-projects@aacounty.org.

Sincerely,

Anne Arundel Recreation and Parks
