Can you go camping (optional) or one Day, Drive there and back?
Anybody know where that abandoned golf course is that onerodonereel caught a ton of snakehead?
I see the weather forecast is daily all week until like next Saturday. I've been reading various posts about how it's best to fish either before, during or after it rains and id like to hear some personal experiences and what ya think it's best to cast during this? I have free time this week and want to try to get outside.
Just spent $325 last night on a mountain bike I can't use this week lol
So I'm out here and it's pretty thick with underwater vegetation. Most of my lures are out except for topwzter. Tried a wacky worm hut the vegetation isn't letting it do its thing. This lake is only like 8 to 10 feet max.
Maybe a frog.? I can see a few bass from the shore but its pretty warm out. . .
As I'm setting out to try Wilde and maybe Kitti lake for the 1st time I see my order from Tackle Warehouse arrived. Everything but 1 pack of 00 snaps for my ultralight. Man I wish they got here sooner so I could tryout the President reel but I can see how this jointed jitterbug does when it gets dark about 8. Don't plan on staying out last 9 cause I work tomorrow. Damn it's still 80° out .
Shipping was really fast , i placed it on the 28th. Im sure I'll be ordering again.
Heading to Annapolis for a wedding in June and want to get some fishing in while I’m there. Are there closer options to Annapolis for snakes that I’m overlooking or should I head down to the more well known eastern shore areas? I have a kayak. I need to be back by noon unfortunately for wedding stuff or I’d spend the day at Blackwater
Is the Patuxent or Severn a closer option ?
What time of year do different fish bite? I don’t have a boat and would mostly do fishing from riverbanks
Western MD is a beautiful place filled with clear mountain streams and beautiful native brookies. Watch full video on my YouTube channel link in comments.
Centennial Lake
I've been going back and forth on getting one of these since its the only watercraft I can own where I live and a member on another subreddit convinced me. After reviewing a dozen I decided on the Cumberland. Seems the best reviewed one for comfort and features. It's on sale on Amazon and all total came to $480 with waders, PFD, knife, rod holder and pump. Added a jointed feathertail jitterbug just cause it looks cool and I've never fished one. Now I'm trying to decide where to go to try it out. Thinking of Little Seneca lake or maybe driving up to Loch Raven since I'll never been there.
Anyone nearby with a tube want to meetup and fish together?
Can't wait to actually be able to fish without worrying about trees being in the way or blocking spots and loosing lures.
Has anyone ever fished at Greenwell State Park or the surrounding areas? Solomons seems kind of dead now.
Not sure if the back and forth temps have been causing issues but I haven't been seeing much on the upper reaches of the patuxent (from Bowie up past Tridelphia).
Doesn't matter what's being thrown, I'm just not seeing any fish when this time last year, I could catch fallfish like crazy.
I e been scoping put channels in my area and all I see are people in yaks cause the snakes are deep in the weeds . Is it possible to catch em from the bank even if ya have to hike. Somewhere within 50 miles of silverspring
I’m 23 years old born and raised in Prince George’s county born to African immigrant parents who have never introduced me to the hobby of fishing. Just recently got my fishing license a couple months ago and I just want to say, the fishermen I’ve come across have been the nicest people in the world. As someone who’s never even thought about making fishing a hobby, it might be ignorant to say but I kinda fed into that ignorant narrative that a majority of fishermen are “white, old, racist” people. Also being a beginner, and only having 1 friend that actually fishes, I refrained from asking other fishermen questions about how to become better because I felt uncomfortable and didn’t want to sound like a newbie. But all of my doubts have been 1000000000% wrong. The fishing community has been absolutely flawless to me. So I wanted to make this post to say thank you. Thank you for all the people I’ve met treating me like you’ve known me my whole life. Thank you for helping me grow out of this introvert shell of ignorant thoughts and narratives. Thanks to all the advice I’ve gotten from random people all over Maryland. These past couple months has given me the energy to truly enjoy the outdoors so much more.
Little Patuxent River. Saw 6 Golden trout stacked up under 95 overpass, but this sucker took the bait. Smh
So I'm going to buy braid tomorrow, so I'm practicing on tying 2 pieces of mono together to practice, but I can't seem to get it right. I've looked at videos and step by step photos...
In the photos, the build-up of the braid loops is always built up on the leader going towards you.
When I do it, the buildup is building up on (BRAID) mono that's going towards the rod side, not the leader line... I'm trying to keep it pulled tight, but it seems like more of a ball than a long coil.
It looks easy... all it seems is you cross over and come back around side to side of the leader line. However, I can't understand how it's the BRAID line that's making that coil and not the leader.. line.. since that's what I'm using to wrap. The leader line should be getting shorter as you wrap it. The braid line is not even moving.
I've done this 100 times, and it's not working.
I cross the leader line over braid towards the rod, and then I cross under the leader line and back over the braid on the other side of the leader. I'm always crossing OVER the braid and UNDER the leader back and forth. I'm still not getting it. What am i doing wrong? It it because I'm using mono for both instead of actual braid.
What’s your go to fly for stocked trout? Personally, a crystal bugger, or a tungsten jig bigger, both in olive, have been good to me. I like fishing streamers. What has been working for you?
I'm not even here 20 min and I lost 2 brand new crankbaits in the same tree. Wind kept blowing my line to the side even when seconds ago there was no wind.
Then I lost a 3rd crankbait to a underwater something.
21 bucks down the frigging drain and 2 of them haven't even gotten wet yet. I tried fishing a Ned jig crowded but even in moderate current I can't keep it still on the bottom and it keels getting pulled to the side and then almost lost that too a snag.
I guess this river hates me or I just should stick to lakes and ponds.
So much overhead trees on the bank here at Swains lock I can't see how I'm gonn fish it. And this is after losing 6 lures at Lock 6...fuckin depressing
Spent some time fishing off Lock 6 today . Got there at 6am and it was pretty windy and chilly out but got really nice and sunny by 1. Water was a bit choppy with the wind So I wasn't sure what to use . It was my first time fishing the Potomac and really rivers in general and everything I cast got pulled downstream fast. I read that crayfish lures are the best to use so I tried my Lil crayfish crankbait and a Yum plasticb crayfish. On a Ned Head jig. It was a darker color I was worried the fish couldn't see it. Ended up losing both of those plus 2 more Yum rigs and all my Ned's. Plus a brand new Rat L Trap on that god dammed overhead whitewater kayak line. All these lured were purchased last week lol. Fucking bad luck and not one hit. I walked all the way down to the bigger Potomac and snuck past the pink tape to try the canal but no luck. I did see a bunch of huge carp in the canal next to the house. I saw a bunch of fish i guess were feeding on the hatch but I didn't have any top waters except ultralight torpedoes and too windy for that. I need to buy some for the med rod plus some crayfish types. Tired as shit . I wonder how many calories I burned today lol.
