The list
Just curious if anyone's been out in Green Ridge last few days. Are they not allowing bonfires at this time?
For any of the folks who occasionally or even make a habit of taking a pic of the campsite registration sheet, one for this coming weekend would be deeply appreciated.
No harm in asking, I figure. I’m coming either way!
Fair trails and waters, friends.
Hey all,
Ahead of the possible Northern Lights tonight, I found that Green Ridge State Forest could be one of the best dark sky spots in Maryland, and likely the closest one to where I live. I have never been to the park, but I was wondering if anyone knew the best overlook spot for unobstructed views of the North?
Thank you!
Looking to camp here next year. I live out of state so it would be tough to travel there before, can I reserve online or does it HAVE to be in person? Can I do it day of my trip? Any help would be great
Has anyone used the mountain biking trail lately? I rode it years ago. I wonder if they have kept up with the maintenance and clearing.
If there was a website that had information as well as pictures and coordinates of each campsite to see what they look like, what other information would you like to know about that site in particular?
Does anyone have insight as to how good Verizon cell service is in the general campground area? Trying to decide if it’s a good idea to go tomorrow morning (Friday) to have a better chance at a campsite, but have to hope that I have service enough to work online once we get there, or if we should wait to go on Saturday morning and just stay one night.
Should have taken Friday off of work but alas, last minute camping plans happen and if I have to work in nature vs at home, nature it is :)
A group of us in Baltimore are looking to camp at Green Ridge, but we will have a baby with us and can’t feasibly make the 2-hour trip only to have to turn around and come home because it’s full.
Anyone know if it’s possible for someone more local to claim a site for us before we make the drive? Planned dates are September 27-29.
For a first timer, any tips and also any sites that you think are the best to check out midweek?
Anyone ever bear hunt green ridge?
How busy or packed does the forest usually get for Labor Day weekend?
We’re trying to secure site 85 :-) we have been trying for 3 weekends so far no luck.
We have not been before but really want to check it out cause it sounds like our perfect match. Just wondering if anyone more local has an idea of what conditions might look like after this rain and what the odds are of it being booked before we get up there tomorrow (we’d be later in the evening arriving)
Hi All! I have been DYING to get out and camp but have not had a chance this summer. FINALLY, planning on heading to GRSF next Thursday. This trip will be solo, ill be bringing a backpack tent to minimize set up / tear down.
I plan on fishing, and love to explore, any site suggestions would be awesome!!! Also, do you think that I would have some pretty good options on a Thursday? It is going to be in the low 80s next week (at least predicted), so I think it is going to be BUSY!
I'll overflow camp if it comes to that, I am not picky and don't have alot so don't need alot of space. Appreciate any and all tips to make a short trip a fun one! Happy Trails!
Past office registration hours, is there self check-in?
Hey all! We camped at Green Ridge last weekend and came across some interesting views. First was naked lady full on display seen from the dirt road. If I remember correctly it was site G6. Needless to say we were very surprised, my partner said the rest of the campers were also naked. Anyone know what that was all about?
Secondly, Potomac river :-) We saw that there is a campground off to the side with river access, I don’t see it from the campground list, anyone know how to reserve that after hours?
Thanks
Would I be able to fit a 28 foot travel trailer in many of the campsites?
We have always camped at state parks so this will be a change for him
For backpacking- can you park at the specific trail head where you plan to backpack ? Or do you need to find a lot that specifically is labeled as parking ?
Example this is off the road at a trail head. Can you park here over night ? (We signed in at headquarters after hours)
Anyone know the current status of Green Ridge Road SE that goes by the Warrior Mountain and Log Roll overlooks? Is it paved? Crushed gravel? Rocks and dirt?
Father flew in from FL to go camping with my son and I. No girlfriends, just guys. Was a nice time. Our favorite site was taken so we gave this one a try. Was some trash around the camp site and it looks flat in the picture but it’s got a little lean to it. Let my dad and son use the tents and I took the trailer.
Weather was perfect and one of the nights we were there it got down to 39. Was great for sitting around the camp fire. Headed down to Bonds landing Friday and did some swimming. We were the only ones there. Green Ridge is by far my favorite place to camp in terms of distance from central Maryland. Love it there.
I'm traveling down I-68 the Friday before Memorial Day and just need a place to sleep for Friday night. Will I be able to find a place? Is there an overflow area near the interstate that anyone would recommend for someone looking to be there for all of like 8 hours with a hammock or 1 man tent? Can I just pull off the road and set up wherever I want?
