Banned books find shelter in Anne Arundel libraries

Local libraries in Maryland are currently facing almost a dozen different book challenges, with critics of stories like “This Book is Gay” and “Bye-Bye Binary” calling for their removal from shelves.

But these books and other challenged stories are still available on the shelves in Anne Arundel County – home to the state’s first “book sanctuary.”

“Sanctuary libraries” don’t just protect banned books, they go out of their way to promote them by holding book talks and storytimes.

Critics say they just want libraries to be careful what children are exposed to. Some people even check out the books they find objectionable and then just never return them, library officials say.

But librarians argue everyone should have a right to explore ideas and read the things they want.

Why won't the county mark lines?

I have a county sewer line on my property. I'm getting ready to do some excavation, so naturally I called miss utility. After filling out the whole thing there was a nice notification that Anne Arundel Department of Public Works won't locate on private property.

WTF AA county. Does anyone know what possible reasoning they could have for not marking these lines?

Affordable dental care

Affordable dental care

RDH student looking for patients 🦷

The month of October children ages 5-18 are free. See below ⭐️

Hi everyone! I am a dental hygiene student looking for patients to help me during my hygiene journey. My school offers affordable hygiene care.

Due to school requirements right now I am really looking for people who are in one of the following groups:

If you've ever been told you need a "deep cleaning" or "SRP" and didn't get it done Over 30 years old and haven’t had a cleaning in 5+ years Under 30 and have never had a cleaning Over 60 years old Teenagers (13-19) Children 5-18 years of age If you don’t fit in those, but think you have MODERATE calculus build up still comment and we can chat!

All treatment is overseen closely by registered dental hygienists and dentists. My school does require a $40 fee for the entire service for adults, $20 for 19 and younger, and $20 for military/ vets with ID. Since we are students getting graded on our service, we really need RELIABLE patients.

We offer literally the most in depth dental cleaning of your life! The appointments are typically 4 hours in length, as we are a school and everything is closely monitored and checked by the instructors. The entire cleaning typically take 2-3 separate appointments, depending on the level of calculus buildup you have.

Our clinic performs:

oral cancer screenings standard cleanings deep cleanings (SRP) dental x-rays fluoride treatment sealants exam from Dentist (with resources for low cost dental clinics for restorative work if needed) Please message me or comment below if you are interested!! I look forward to meeting you and cleaning your teeth! Thanks for your time!

🦷💞

Ps. If you get regular cleanings and would like to come see me instead that would be great too! Thanks!

I am looking to schedule patients October- December

Currently in need of a patient 10/7 at 130 10/28 at 8 and 130 And 10/30 at 8

Participants needed for chronic low back pain and co-occuring depression research

Do you suffer from lower back pain and depression?

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University are seeking individuals with chronic low back pain and co-occurring depression to participate in a research study looking at the effects of psilocybin, a psychoactive substance found in naturally occurring mushrooms. The study will investigate the psychological effects of psilocybin, including whether or not it can help with chronic low back pain and co-occurring depression.

Volunteers must be:

  • Between the ages of 21 and 80
  • Have low back pain and depression as an ongoing problem (at least 3 months)
  • No recent history of alcoholism or drug abuse

Thoughts on the massive revitalizing plan?

The county meeting is Wed 6pm , it seems to center mostly around each light rail station and extending the b and a trail though neighborhoods.

Suggestion Thread for /r/AnneArundelCounty.

Hello -

I'm starting this thread to see what suggestions the users have for this subreddit. I can't promise they'll all be implemented but it will be helpful to some input from the community.

Thanks.

Affordable Car Insurance for unemployed

Hello! Are there any low cost auto insurance companies that are more affordable? Or auto insurance for people on government assistance?

I am currently unemoloyed but have been looking for work for a few months with no luck. I am in school and living off of VA benefits which helps but doesnt cover all expenses. I previously had Geico but i can no longer afford to pay and the state is threatening to suspend my registration. What can i do? I cant lose my car as I am a single mom and need it to do basic things.

This is wild!!

They steal a car, cause injury and damage to another car, and then have someone removed from their home due to damage and they get to go home with their parents!!!!!

Water/Utility bills

Hello all. Quick question- when does the utility bills process in AA County? I'm forgetful so I would like a notification but can't seem to figure out the site. The site doesn't allow me to create a login etc. I pay by just entering my house number then my account pops up. But I don't know when my due date generally is. Thanks in advance!

Question D - County Auditor

Does anyone know what the proposed change of the duties of the County Auditor are?

This is far to vague of a question and trying to find information is like pulling teeth.

Parking regulations on county roads

Are there laws that limit how long a vehicle can be parked on a county road?

For example: could I park a vehicle that is used 1-2 times a year on the county road in front of my house?
