No HQL Application Checklist?

https://preview.redd.it/8wo0lwamzv0d1.png?width=818&format=png&auto=webp&s=87d0f5aa5f3af9c4913889476082bfc2b27302a6

Applied 5/11/2024 and was checking to see the status of my application and noticed that the checklist is no longer there. Anyone know what that means?

Being a future police officer

I've thought about becoming a police officer in the near future. What are the ethics of being a 2A supporter and a police officer at the same time?

Can both be true or do they both cancel each other out?

CZ 457s in Maryland?

Looking for a local shop with some 457’s in stock. Checked out Atlantic Guns in Rockville and they have a couple, but I’m hoping to see some more in person before I settle and just buy online. Anybody seen any around?

Clarification of SBR/ AW Ban and SBR'ing a braced pistol

Here's the question:
If I were to SBR a braced pistol would the gun then be in violation of the AW ban (it would be under the 29 inches req)? Or does this still legally speaking count as a handgun for the purposes of the MD AW ban which keeps it from being affected by the barrel length requirement.
To give a concrete example: MP5 with pistol brace, gets SBR'd through ATF, and then a folding stock is added. Legal or no?
Thanks for any help.

Is SB1 really THIS dumb???

  1. A person wearing, carrying, or transporting a firearm may not:

enter or trespass on property unless the owner or the owner's agent has posted a clear and conspicuous sign indicating that it is permissible to wear, carry, or transport a firearm on the property; or enter or trespass on property unless the owner or the owner's agent has given the person express permission to wear, carry, or transport a firearm on the property. (CR 6-411(D))

Am I crazy or does that actually say you can’t carry anywhere unless you ask permission or there is a sign saying guns are allowed? Shouldn’t it AT THE LEAST be the other way around, “you can carry here unless we say you can’t”

Optimal barrel length for 300 BLK?

So I'm looking to get a 300BLK pistol and I see quite a few barrel lengths for them. I was looking at a PSA one since it's fairly inexpensive. I see 6.5, 7.5, 8.5 and 10.5 barrel lengths. Did a Google search and they stated any barrel length from 6-10 inches is optimal which isn't a huge help to me. Curious if there is an "optimal" barrel length I should be going for here? This is just going to be a home defense/range toy for me so not sure if that helps out any. Anyone know which barrel length would be best for me? The cheapest one I saw was a 6.5 barrel but I was kinda leaning towards the 10.5 one since I think. ergonomically, it should fit/feel a bit better than the tiny 6.5 one.

Alsobrooks or Hogan for MD 2A rights?

As the title suggests, do you think Alsobrooks will be supportive of MD 2A rights? Does she have a history of supporting the “nonsensical” laws?

Long extendable stick?

I have a favorite PCC/PDW of mine that was heavily affected by the pistol brace ruling, and is effectively unusable . I'd love to SBR it and get it over with, but it's OAL is 23.8 inches without a stock on it. Anyone have any recommendations for an AR extendable rifle stock that can extend enough (~6 inches) to make it legally SBR length in Maryland? I'm not terribly familiar with AR aftermarket stocks, and so am not sure how to judge if a particular stock I see online has enough of a OAL increase effect.

Rossi R92 24 inch banned?

Looking at online distributors, most list that they won't ship the 24 inch version of the Rossi R92 lever action rifle to Maryland. I'm guessing that this is because the fixed magazine has a capacity greater than 10 rounds (12 rounds). The Maryland state police website states that all rifles with a fixed magazine capacity greater than 10 rounds are banned (number 5 at https://mdsp.maryland.gov/Organization/Pages/CriminalInvestigationBureau/LicensingDivision/Firearms/FirearmSearch.aspx) but I thought the law only applied to semiautomatic rifles, not lever action. looking at the reviewed firearms list, it looks like they made a formal decision on the Winchester Model 1873 Deluxe Sporting as not banned. This is also a lever action rifle with a fixed magazine capacity greater than 10 rounds. I'm wondering if a similar review and exception needs to be made for the 24 inch Rossi R92 as well for distributors to ship these rifles into the state.

Pin and weld

If I pin and weld a 13.9 pistol platform and make 16.4 it becomes a rifle but would it still need to be a hbar at that point?

Handgun Laws for a Internship

As the title says, I’ll be starting an internship in SOMD here shortly. Every state I’ll drive through is a constitutional carry state until I hit MD so I’m not too worried there.

My concern is actually having my firearm with me while I’m in MD. From what I’ve seen, I definitely can’t conceal carry without a permit but I’m not concerned about that anyways since I’ll be on the naval base for work. I just want to make sure it’s okay to have in the house or if I want to head over to the range.

From what I’ve seen online, it looks like you have 90 days to register your handgun if you’re a new resident. I don’t know if I’d be considered a resident or not but regardless, I won’t be in the state for more than 90 days. Hope someone can help!

Any Gun range event in the DMV for the 4th of July?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if there will be any gun range event's in the DMV ( or anywhere not extremely too far away) for the 4th of July. I will most certainly be finished my piston modification and a bunch of other upgrades on my new 300 blackout 10.5 pistol. Would love to find a fun event in the area for 4th. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks💪🏾❤️

Can you get a long gun transferred in VA/WV/PA and keep the 30 round magazines?

Can you get a long gun transferred in VA/WV/PA and keep the higher round magazines? Order the rifle to be shipped to an FFL out of state and avoid losing the magazine or being forced to order the version that comes with 10 round magazine. Looking at the keltec sub 2000.

Clarification: I’m assuming I would be able to leave with the gun and the magazines it came with and there would only be 1 transfer fee. I wouldn’t need to visit a MD FFL at all. I would need to go to Virginia anyways for extra magazines so there’s no extra trip and I get to order the gun cheaper online and keep the magazines with no added cost for pinning etc.

How difficult to get DC CCW? I have a MD and FL permit as was prior military.

Hi Folks - I'm interested in getting a Washington DC CCW permit and already have the MD and FL permit where I was able to use my veteran status to bypass the training requirements. It looks like that the application for the DC permit requires firearms training and does not take into account one's military experience. Also, the permitting process seems laborious (on purpose) and does not offer an online registration process. In addition, it looks like you need to provide a justification for the permit. Have any of you gone through this process? Thanks!

I purchased a handgun in Maryland prior to October 1, 2013 and received some sort of printed document I had to sign and keep in my wallet (but the document got destroyed). What was thay document? What is the process for getting an HQL in Maryland if I purchased a hand gun prior to 10/1/2013?

I purchased a handgun in September of 2013. I also received a document, I believe was a certification of completing an online training course through the state of Maryland, at the same time. I could be wrong about that document, but I know I had a document I had to sign and keep in my wallet. Anyway, after all of these years, that document got destroyed. Any idea what that document may have been?

Additionally, would that document have an impact on me getting my HQL? If so, what do I need to do get my HQL?

I also took Hunters Ed when I was a teenager, but again, I don't know where that certification is - is there a way to look that up?

Anybody know anything about Grit Grips?

Specifically, are their serialized frames legal in MD?

I have enough spare parts to build out a Glock 19, just need the frame and I'm wondering if I can get one of these shipped here and do the paperwork on them.

Transfer from dying grandparent

Alright so I'm gonna attempt to tell this as concisely as possible. My grandfather is about to be moved into hospice and wants me and my brother to have his guns. My grandmother has a power of attorney over him. I went to go check that they were all unloaded and he has 2 AK's 2 SKS's a few handguns a Mac-11 and M1 Carbine and the rest are hunting rifles and shotguns all for waterfowl it seems. But none of them are registered from what I understand and he's had them all for a long time probably 20+ years. My grandmother says she gonna give them to the state police. Now to be clear I've been living in MD for about 7 months but I'm moving back to Texas and have a Texas drivers license and no HQL for MD. I've talked to a local county Sheriff, a state police officer and 2 different gun shops and all of them have told me just to take them. Which I don't want to commit any crimes so im not going to just "take them" I'm at a complete loss on what to do on this.

SB1 Help

TLDR: as far as I understand, under the partially enjoined SB1 I can carry my firearm in private buildings (unless asked to leave) and within buildings that serve alcohol (as long I am not consuming). Am I correct about this?

It is 2:30AM and because I recently started making moves to get my firearms shipped to MD I thought I would do a deep dive on my 2A rights as I am sure they differ from my home state. Honestly, I did not think I was going to be here much longer so SB1 was really far from my mind and I did not think about it until now. It could be my reading comprehension, my misunderstanding of ‘lawful’ firearm restrictions coming from a constitutional carry state, or that some of the material provided by the state is vague and ambiguous. Until a few minutes ago, I did not know how bad SB1 was (and still is), I did not understand the process of “enjoining” , and I thought I just wasted hundreds of dollars on shipping and my CCW. I read a lot of comments and watched videos going over the bill but because of the lack of content in the past 8-9months covering the bill, most of the information was really just about how bad the bill was and or what each section of the bill legally implied leading me believe that the entire bill was still in-place.

Anyways, here are some resources I found:

Transporting a firearm between two residences

Not sure if a MD page will be able to help me out here. I'm in the process of getting my HQL so I can purchase a solid home defense handgun (thinking Glock 19 or if I can find one a Sig P320). I go to college in PA, and I live off campus in an apartment complex with no affilation to the school. Am I legally allowed to take a handgun I bought in MD to PA, across state lines to store that handgun at my residence in PA. Since getting into handguns, I want to be as careful as possible that I don't break any state or federal laws, and I've gotten a huge range of different answers when asking this question to others. Thank you in advance guys!

EDIT: I lived in Maryland for 20 years prior to moving to PA to attend school, that is why I'm getting my HQL and purchasing a handgun in MD, because (and correct me if I'm wrong) I'm a resident of MD and PA.

What’s the trick to buying mags that come with a new pistol purchase above the legal size?

Usually when buying a gun that comes with larger mags. I will buy out of state at a show so I can grab the mags there. I then have them send the gun to a ffl in the state. Is there an easier trick?

Why SBAR

Everything I have read about pistol vs sbar leads me to think that an AR pistol is MD legal as long as the barrel is under 16 inches and is "designed to be fired one handed". So what is the benefit of going SBAR other than using a real shoulder stock or vertical fore grip? I'm thinking about building an AR pistol but feel like I'm missing something.

Question about Geissele rifle being ok for registration in MD

A question for the group. I have an opportunity to obtain a Geissele Super Duty MOD1 Rifle, 16", 5.56MM. My question is, is this permitted to be sent via FFL to MD. I looked at the list of firearms on MD, and for Geissele rifles it mentions 'heavy barrel version'. I cross referenced the manufacturer website and in the info on that rifle, it does not specifically mention 'heavy duty' or any sort of variation of that term for the rifle. I spoke with a gun dealer who said the rifle has to be an Hbar, which matches with the MD website. The dilemma I think I'm in is, since the Geissele website doesn't explicitly say 'heavy duty' when describing the barrel, can the rifle be FFL'ed to MD for registration. This is what the Geissele website says regarding the barrel. BARREL: 16" Barrel, CHF, Chrome Lined, 1-7 Twist - Geissele Profile

Any wisdom from the group would be greatly appreciated.

Is this true or a lie ?

Was calling about the 16 hour class and this dude said if I was concerned about my safety I could buy a shotgun or rifle and have it in my car without a permit as long as it’s out of reach and not loaded. Is this true ?
