Beautiful city tucked in between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Small town charm, excellent eateries, world class shopping.
Hagerstown, MD:
Hagerstown was founded in 1762 by Jonathan Hager, a gunsmith, fur trader, farmer and politician. After settling he quickly increased his wealth and expanded his land holdings acquiring over 10,000 acres which he used to lay out plans for the town. It was originally named Elizabethtowne, in honor of his wife, but was later changed to Hagerstown in his honor.
Hagerstown was situated at the crossroads of the “Warrior Trading Path,” the Eastern Native American North / South Trading Route, which is modern day Route 11 and the First National Road, now Route 40. The town grew quickly and was a prized location for transportation of all kinds from covered wagon to nearby river navigation.
The nickname “Hub City” comes from the way all the railroad lines running into Hagerstown resembled the spokes of a wagon wheel on a map.

I live by Franklin/ Winter street and every time I’ve gone outside between 3pm and now I’ve heard these three beeps that sounds almost like a smoke detector and it hasn’t stopped it’s driving me crazy am I losing or it or do you hear it too
Periodically over the last few years I've looked for self defense classes and haven't been able to find any, does anyone know of one? Willing to travel to martinsburg or Chambersburg as well.
I moved to Hagerstown after 60+ years in MoCo in April. Love it here. Recently spent 4 days in Meritus hospital and am now signing up for the doctors I need in their system. My experience so far has been very good, but I'd like to hear others opinions. I'm on Medicare, and they've been helpful in working through the system so far. What do you think of Meritus?
Has anyone seen this duck before? He came right up to my car it made me wonder if he was possibly domestic & dumped
Current Y member but aging out of the family plan & looking for closer options.
I’m a beginner at best & gravitate towards group classes. Crunch doesn’t have as many & gives off more of a gym bro vibe, but I like the guest pass options & location.
I haven’t been to onelife in probably 5 years now so I’m not sure how much it’s changed. I do know it was hard to cancel membership/is more costly overall.
Which gym would you recommend?
Hello fellow Hagerstowners - I’ve been on a hunt to find information about the old Playland around Maugansville. The place closed down about 20 years or so ago - unfortunately there are no pictures or information about this place online.
If anyone knows anything, could share pictures, videos, or information - even memories - that would be great! It was a very special and nostalgic place!
Information I have so far: there is an image of the front building when searching on the internet. There have also been a few listings for Playland coins with “Hagerstown” on the coin itself. Also a strange youtube video - a home video recording of Playland from the 90’s.
Hey everyone! We just moved to the area not too long ago, and we have family visiting from abroad. If you had family coming from Europe who don't speak English, what places within a one hour range would you think to take them? I'd like them to see what it's like to live here, but also check out some of the cool historical things, restaurants, events, etc. It can be small things, like the Wilson General Store or the Amish Market, or even bigger things, like a cool museum a bit further away. I even plan on taking them thrifting since that's not something they are very familiar with. I also know there are some neat Christmas things going on, so any recommendations for that would be appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance :-)
I opened my jerky kiosk at the Valley Mall come check us out
If you were disappointed by this week's elections, good. Channel it and put it to use. The midterm elections will be popping up sooner than you know and passionate candidates and surrogates will be needed. 2026 will see the following State and local positions on the ballot
Local
If you want to see real change in the community, this is where you start. Get motivated and push your friends and colleagues to do the same. Otherwise you'll always see the same names in the positions for 20+ years like we currently do
I can’t be the only one here feeling lonely after cutting off family members over the election right before the holidays. Would anyone be interested in starting a social group to make new healthy connections? I’m talking strictly platonic meetups where we can socialize, vent, maybe do some service projects or crafts or whatever else we’d like to do.
For transparency, I’m a white woman in my 40s and mom of three mostly grown kids but I’d want to open it up to everyone. The more diverse the better.
If so, what would be the best days and times? If there’s enough interest, I’ll try to reserve a free space for a meet and greet.
edit It looks like there’s a lot of interest but I’ve also seen the deleted comments and have gotten private messages that left me feeling uncomfortable. I will make some calls on Monday to find a safe space to meet and message those who said they are interested privately for the safety of the group.
Here’s the flyer for the local show in Greencastle on the 17th!
I really want to join a gym. Any insights?

Where can I buy decor license plates?
I’m not familiar with them and there is very little to find online for most of these people.
I’m an independent so I’m not a straight D or R person, but I want to know who ideally is more strict with their rulings and likely to keep repeat offenders in jail.
Good morning all, any recommendations on home security systems, DIY…
Voting for prez, senate, and congress is easy but I want to be able to confidently vote for the non-partisan contests too. Where can I find more info on the candidates running for council and BOE? Thank you.

Mid-Atlantic? Appalachia? Something else? All of the above? I’m an outsider trying to learn more about the geography of the United States.
Are there any counselors who can help me look for a job?
The Job Center does not even answer the phone. I was told that the Job Center does not have career counselors. They refer you to Western Maryland Consortium, and WMC offers very little help, and only at a glacial pace. They are geared to help people who are ex-cons and college dropouts. I was disqualified from a program for having a high score on a reading test. The advice I get from the Job Center conflicts with the advice or help you get from WMC.
I will be moving back to the area soon. Can anyone tell me what is involved in transferring a vehicle to Md? Inspection? Emissions? Fees? Can I walk in or is it appointment only? Thanks for the heads up.
Any reviews about Tim’s Furniture at the Outlets? Any issues with delivery?
