Hello! I just moved here and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hair salons that do black hair in or around the area. I'm mostly looking for someone that can do a silk press and handle transitioning hair from relaxed to natural.
I grew up in the area. Many years ago there was a place at the corner of Norfolk and Cordell (I think) called The Sub Base. Theirs was the best cheesesteak around at the time. Or so my young self thought.
They're long gone, now, and I haven't found a good one since.
What makes a good cheesesteak? Obviously it starts with the steak -- I prefer a nice ribeye. Chopped up with onions and peppers, salt/pepper, tangy hots, and provolone cheese melted on top. I also like lettuce/tomatoes. Finally, the bread is crucial -- I prefer a baguette with some structure that can stand up to the juices -- hollowed out a bit with dijon mustard and mayo. I make this at home every now and then -- best bread around is a Balducci's baguette -- but sometimes you just want to buy it and enjoy instead of going through all the effort.
Any recommendations?
Is this still scheduled to open and are the causes for the long delay known?
Did anyone else hear that?
hi all, i am looking for some friends in the area! i live an hour away, but i don’t have many friends where i live and honestly i can’t relate to most people where i do, very hyper conservative, older folk area. i am 26, i’m an artist full time and i love it enough to do it while i’m home, i like comics, video games, good tv, cats, spirituality, philosophy, cartoons/some anime, music of all varieties (though i’m not big on metal or country), nature and humor (super big on the last one.) i’m trying to put myself out there, i am pretty lonely and can be shy, but i am trying to break out of that and nurture my interpersonal relationships. i am super left leaning, so if you’re conservative we will not get along. i tried using bumble bff already and everyone wants to clap cheeks, and i am not looking for that. i am looking for friends of all genders and identities, sexualities, i don’t care what you have going on as long as you are a good, drama free person/community! i’m not sure what what my schedule looks like after i start big brother/big sister in my area, but i am mostly free on weekends and after 5 and don’t mind
Does anyone know what it was? Or did you hear/see it? It just happened..
Hey Neighbors,
I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to Medical Center Station for a job I got in DC. I've taken this metro stop before but primarily on weekends when parking is free or I'm out with friends. To my knowledge, parking is extremely limited during weekdays I don't want to say my exact location, but I live on Cedar Lane. Roughly 1.5 miles away from the station.
From how I see it here are my options:
Typing this out really helped but if you are in the same position as me, I'm interested to see what your commute is like and the mode of transportation you use. Any tips for commuting via metro are welcomed too. Previously I drove from here to PG County every day for work. I've grown immune to 495 traffic but I'm sure as hell excited to not be driving that daily!
Rest in Peace to those who died at DCA
Thanks
Just moved to Bethesda right off River Rd. I wanted to look into joining a pool that has swim and dive teams for my kids but there seems to be quite a few choices. (Before we moved we used to belong to Rock Creek Pool and we loved it.). Does anyone have any recommendations to help me navigate the different options?
Found outside the metro center in a Warby Parker case. If they are yours please message with a description of the frame. If no one responds I’m planning on dropping them off at the WP in Bethesda row.
If you’re looking for a kind and experienced dog groomer I highly recommend my groomer. Just ask for “Barbara” at the Bethesda Petsmart. You can easily book through the app.
hi! does anyone know of cna training programs in bethesda (walking distance from the nih)? i wanted to get certified, but im going to be in bethesda for the summer and am not familiar with the area. thanks for the help!
Anyone know sushi places that have good prices/discounts around here??
Looking for a place where I can start Pilates. I need a place for beginners, where the instructor(s) will play close attention and provide good feedback and corrections. I am healing from a tummy tuck (but surgeon cleared me for core exercises) so need to start easy. Thank you!
I am moving to Bethesda at the end of May and am lost when it comes to finding an apartment. I have several ones that I have been looking at but there are different pros and cons to each.
For reference, I have looked at Edgemont, Triangle Towers, Bradley Crossing, Middlebrooke, Windsor, and Palisades of Bethesda.
Biggest things I am looking for: affordable rent, close proximity to Walter Reed (either walking distance or close to red line). Preferably laundry in unit.
Would be nice: if they have parking, fitness center.
I've seen mixed reviews of Triangle Towers. Can someone confirm if there are people that smoke cigarettes in the building?
I'm open to other suggestions. I would love to stay around $2,000 for a studio apartment.
I am with Verizon now, and just fed up. I have used xfinity and sworn off them. What other options are there in the downtown Bethesda area?
I'm looking to move in or near Bethesda and the only thing I care about is quiet. I don't want to hear neighbors and I don't want them to hear me.
Ideally minimal street noise, too, but I can live with street noise. It's mainly neighbor noise I care about.
Don't care if it's only a tiny space.
Does anyone have any tips for how to find one? It'd be nice if I could only stay in a place for a month (or a week) to determine the noise level, but I know that'd be a rare arrangement.
I'm looking to rent a keyboard/piano for a month. I want to get a sense if I'll actually play once it's in my apartment. I've looked online a little, but thought I'd turn here to see if anyone had experience or a business to try. Thanks in advance!
Thank you in advance
Thinking of heading to the Bethesdan Hotel at 7 for pub trivia
As other subs are moving forward with such decisions, I think we should also have a discussion. I think we should ban Twitter links. As all traffic to the app generates income for the now avowed Nazi sympathizer.
To keep Metro service through Bethesda fast and frequent, the MD State Legislature must fully fund Metro. Also, the MD legislature should follow through on their promise to make MARC trains (that go from DC to Silver Spring to Rockville to Kensington to Gaithersburg and beyond) go both ways all day! You can tell your representatives in 1 min with this link: https://www.actfortransit.org/fund_in_full_metro_service_preservation_and_marc_service_expansion
Interested in the Garrett Park Estates neighborhood to buy a home (married, mid-30s couple). What are peoples experiences with the neighborhood, schools, and lifestyle?

Ginger will focus on Henson’s early life on the Riley Plantation in Montgomery County, and his later work as an abolitionist and conductor on the Underground Railroad. She will also discuss Henson’s connection to Harriet Beecher Stowe, whose fictitious character Uncle Tom in her famous 1852 novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin was loosely based on Henson.

History Hour: Thurgood Marshall: A Trail-Blazing Civil Rights Victory in Montgomery County
Thursday, January 23 from 6 to 7 pm at Josiah Henson Museum & Park
Tickets: $5, available online or onsite*
Civil rights icon Thurgood Marshall delivered an early blow to school segregation right here in Montgomery County—gaining equal pay for the county’s African American teachers in 1937. This little-known legal case is often seen as the first step in Marshall’s successful drive to have separate schools for white and black children declared unconstitutional, as the Supreme Court did 17 years later in a landmark decision. This illustrated talk details this remarkable local story and its national significance. Spoiler alert: the victory came at a tremendous cost to the teacher bringing the case. Presented by Ralph Buglass.

Reverend Josiah Henson worked tirelessly throughout his life to advocate for freedom and education. Anyone know why so many cops are around the metro area in Bethesda
Hi all, I’ve done some searching on this sub and found some good information. But I’m hoping to hear from locals directly as well on our situation —
We are moving to the area in August. Husband will be working in Rockville 5 days a week. I’ll be working in Georgetown 2 days a week, from home 3 days.
We have two young kids, age 3 and 1. Looking for daycares in the area.
My question is, where would you aim to live if you were in our situation? Bethesda seems like the halfway point.
In general we like to go out to eat, take walks, go to playgrounds. We would need a 3 bedroom place with small backyard. Around $4500/month rent.
Thanks so much.
