This subreddit is for discussions about the nuclear free city of Takoma Park, MD, the adjacent neighborhood of Takoma, Washington D.C. and nearby areas.
Takoma Park was founded in 1883 as an early suburb of Washington, DC. It was home of the Adventist Church for most of the 20th century...and also came to be known for its music/arts scene and liberal politics. Residents vigorously protested planned freeways in the 1960s, declared the city a "Nuclear-Free Zone" in the early 1980s, and opened voting in city elections to 16-year-olds in 2013 (first in the US!)

Hi! I’m seeking a good word-of-mouth referral for a really good / fair property management company to help me rent out and manage my condo in Takoma Park. Could you share any companies that you have worked with and trust? Thank you so much!

Throwaway account because this is very identifying lol...
A few nights ago, I accidentally left my car unlocked. It seems that someone took my knitting bag. I think they probably just saw "bag" and grabbed it, hoping it might contain valuables. Anyhow, in my knitting bag was a sweater I've been working on for eight months and was a few rows away from finishing. I wish I had taken more photos, but I posted the only one I have below (I knit a whole other sleeve after taking it).
I know this is a LONG shot, but I think there's a chance that whoever took it might've just dumped it somewhere when they realized what they snagged. Obviously I'm super bummed (so many people have been cheering me on and waiting for me to finally finish the sweater and wear it). If you see a tan tote bag of yarn/almost finished sweater in a weird place, please take it and contact me. Thanks!
P.S. Please, please do not comment with security advice I will obviously obsessively check my car from now on. I was flustered, trying to come inside with a lot of stuff and my dog and I was tired and I forgot. When my car has been broken into in the past, people normally leave bulky objects like jackets, towels, and sleeping bags so I didn't except this to be a target. THANKS!
My girlfriend and I came across a flyer for a mini golden doodle for sale. We weren't interested in getting another dog, but the flyer seemed strange so we called the number on it to get more info.
We come to find out the dog was not in a good situation, so we bought the dog to ensure it finds a loving, stable and safe situation.
We cannot keep the dog due to the demands from our current dog and our work schedule. This mini golden doodle, named noodle, is 17 pounds and 2 years old. She has her shots but still needs to be spaded.
We live in the DuPont circle area and would need to meet in person with anyone interested. We are not selling the dog. We will not accept any money. We just want to be as sure as possible that she will have a loving home. Please message me if you are interested so we can exchange phone numbers. I'm happy to discuss any questions you have. We have tried coordinating with rescue organizations, but getting a solution within an acceptable timeframe is challenging.
The side bar is where a subreddit traditionally has a blurb as to what they are about and relevant resource listings, but it isn't always easy to find on mobile so we are putting that information here for visibility.
If there is a relevant/useful/interesting resource or link you'd like to see added please message a mod.

Just want to warn everyone that a group of about 3 to 4 teens / young adults were driving around the area today making racist monkey noises and harassing people of color on the street from their car around 3pm or so close to Coolidge High School.
I’m looking online and it seems like the Glade is the only apartment building in walking distance to the shops and restaurants. Are there other apt buildings close to the “downtown”?
Does anyone love their general practitioner (GP) in Takoma Park or Silver Spring?
Just moved to this side of Montgomery County and am looking for someone closer than my previous GP.
Hopefully they give you an easy time with scheduling appointments and getting prescription refills?
