After a few close calls, planning to get a garmin Varia.
Would pannier bags and a pannier rack get in the way of the radar?
Generally how are Linus bikes? Worth the money? Decent components? Typically reliable?
hey yall i bought a used road bike last fall and took it up some pretty steep hills before winter hit. it has 3 chainrings in the front and an 8 speed cassette in the back (shimano). it's from the 90s but not sure on the exact year.
i noticed that going uphill, my smallest gear (30/28 i think) really has me struggling up inclines above 12-13%. i'm basically constantly out of the saddle at those gradients and i just think, if i had like one or two more gears to shift down to, it would make things a lot easier.
i would love to do some longer rides in the mountains this summer, so i've been thinking about installing a different cassette with a 30 or maybe 32 sprocket as the smallest gear. the problem is, my coworker who rides a lot told me you can't fit a new cassette from the bike shop on a decades old bike, it won't be compatible. how true is that?
I really like this style of bikes. I see them on instagram quite often. Seems like it always a custom thing.
So to get this kind of bike I would like to know:
I would likee to hear any knowledge or an advice about the topic.
I recently purchased a used men's 26" beach cruiser at a flea market. I later decided to purchase for it new tires (26" x 2.125) and tubes (26" x 1.75-2.125"). Today I removed the wheels and stripped off the old tires and tubes and realized that the wheels look very narrow! They are 26" x 1".
So... my question is this -- is the tube sizing (1.75-2.215") only relevant with regard to the tire size? Or does the tube require at least a 1.75" wheel width? That is, will a 1.75-2.215" tube (inside a 26" x 2.125" tire) fit and function properly on a 26" x 1.25" wheel?
[ The wheels previously had these exact tube and tire dimensions on them prior to my removing them, however I just want to make sure that my new purchases and upgrades are done properly and that the bike will be safe to ride. Also I'm a bit overweight, so I kinda feel like I should have 1.75" width wheels on it like my other bicycles. ]
Any help appreciated! :)
Finally summer. Couldn’t help doing maintenance outside
I'm in the process of restoring an old Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo, and while I was doing parts research, I stumbled upon these. Apparently, Gary Fisher himself would hand them out at MTB races in the 90's and early 00's, and there were a bunch of different colors of them. They're literally just valve caps, but I can't find them anywhere. All of the listings I've seen are 15 or 20 years old and long sold out, so I've turned to y'all for help. I think these would add a great little quirk to the build, so if anyone has a set of them, I'm willing to buy. Hopefully Reddit will work its magic...
Hello,. Last year i did the andermatt route (https://www.komoot.com/nl-nl/tour/12892817). Its was hard but also really rewarding. This year i'm looking for a new challenge. It can be a little harder, let say 160km max and 5000hm. Does anyone has any recommendations? I was thinking somewhere in France or Italy.
I know the shifters are backwards, I'm just looking if anyone knows more it's got 650b wheels
Hello everyone, I have a few questions about maintenance/repairs if its allowed.
So I've noticed that my bike just.. doesn't shift gears? Or, it does and then shifts back? I don't really know honestly, but I DO know it makes a deep clicking sound while I ride it. When I shift into another gear, it seems to shift for maybe a few seconds before clicking and going back to how it was? I'm not sure how to describe it beyond that, I'm sorry.
I'm thinking its not actually shifting/shifting only partway and then falling back to how it was previously and that there's an issue with one of gears and/or the shifter, but I'm probably the least knowledgeable person when it comes to this stuff
Thoughts?
Im looking to upgrade to a full suspension mountain bike and my budget is £600-£850. What do you think i can get used for this price?
Had the Foffa single speed back in 2016 and Foffa is dead, so i am looking for a comparable beautiful bike, that is light and rides good on streets and gravel 🤔 maybe electric too?
Thanks in advance!!

I profited from a 5-day vacation streak in France and decided to do some cycling. I wasn't planning to do 500 km in 5 days, but I got the idea of doing this personal challenge after day 2.
The bike is a mid to late '70s (as far as I can tell) French model, with 3 Reynolds 531 double-butted tubes, center pull brakes, steel rims, 50-40 teeth in the front, and 22-20-18-16-14 teeth in the back.
Nutrition consisted of a large breakfast (or lunch) pre-ride, a big snack about 3 or 4 hours mid-ride (for the 100+ km rides), and a recovery meal of at least 6 eggs and plenty of carbs and fiber post-ride. Specifically, for breakfast I did a couple of eggs, some cheese, some rye bread with butter and honey, a couple of figs with a handful of walnuts and dark chocolate, 1 banana, some fish oil, 1 coffee, 1 green tea, 1 ginger tea, some magnesium, and a lot of water; for lunch I did a big plate of hard wheat pasta with plenty of olive oil and sardines, and 1 coffee; and mid-ride I would drink plenty of water and eat a sandwich and/or some pizza, 1 banana, and sometimes would top up with something small with protein and fats like a can of sardines and/or some pâté.
I am quite fit as a person, in my late 30s, don't smoke, rarely drink, avoid refined sugars as much as possible (probably completely, if I look back on my diet), and do a good amount of strength training (push-ups and squats). So, I'm still feeling fresh today and I could keep on going, but it started getting a bit boring towards the end of it and, in any case, I will start working again from tomorrow :)
I guess that the main point that I'm trying to get across is that a healthy diet and an overall active and clean lifestyle can do you a lot of good; IMHO if you want to ride in order to gain strength and endurance, I really cannot see any need for doing refined sugars/carbs, since a healthy metabolism can be very powerful with real food.
Happy and safe rides!
Hey again reddit,
I’ve found what seems to be a 2008 Giant OCR3 cycle. The owner said they originally bought it for $750 and are asking $250. I’m not sure if it’s worth anywhere near $750 now but it’s in good condition and I was thinking of asking $150 for it. Does this seem to be a good deal and I should pull the trigger? Let me know
