Does anyone know if the Wednesday evening group ride from Mike's Bikes downtown is still happening? Pretty much all the info I can find says it's only April-October, but a guy I met on the bike trail said it was still going.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, rain is being called for, but wanted to FYI that the first race of the NorCal season is this weekend. A great venue to stop by and watch!
Good morning r/SacBike I am in the middle of moving to Sac and I plan on mostly riding my bike/walking/taking public transit around town once I am here. Unfortunately though my bike was left outside the past couple years and I’ll probably need to get new shocks and a chain, are there any reputable stores that anyone wants to shout out in the area that I should go to for replacement parts and potentially service if I am too busy with work? :) thanks for the help/advice In advance
Not sure its allowed or not but I have a bike for sale. Please delete if not allowed. Posting here as I don't like FB.
It is a Giant AC2 DH bike. The front fork is newer (maybe 3 years?) but I think the rear shock might need to be replaced.
I have ridden it once in the past year and really it just takes up space at this point. $300obo.
Want to share my route to the May Lee State Office Complex/Township 9 station and see if anyone has any suggestions for potentially improving the last part. Overall it's a nice ride, but the last part can be iffy.
Starting from Oak Park, I get on 2nd and head west to either 24th or 21st before I head north. From there I take either T or P west to 13th, head north, make a left on G and then keep on going west. When the 6th street bridge (still not officially open) was fully closed off, I would eventually make a right on 8th to take the 7th street underpass, which I could take straight to the building.
Now that it's kinda open, I take the 6th street bridge to Railyards and then up to 7th. 6th has its share of tents but is mostly clear and much safer than potentially bumping into somebody/falling into traffic/riding over unavoidable trash down under the railroad on 7th street.
Looking forward to when the 5th street bridge opens, cos then I'll just take T or P all the way down and then up. Until then, I'll probably be doing the above. Have tried taking Old Sac route to Railyards but I wouldn't say it's amazing. Mainly out of curiosity, Is there an OK route to Township 9 on bike coming from the east?
** EDIT: Heading in on 26th this morning was great! Thanks for that tip. Unfortunately the two-way route on 12th didn't seem too appealing when I last passed it by, but I'll keep an eye on it
Hi everyone,
Just moved to Sacramento from the east coast. I'm a roadie and looking forward to get into gravel later on. Seems like a lot of folks are riding to Auburn and Tahoe area.
I found these two nice routes online. Can someone advise me on these? or if you have better 50 miles or over route, let me know.
Thank you!

Looks like it maybe got joyrode. Joyrided? Anyhoo…41/F east sac.
I used to live in Boulder County which was great. Currently in Bend, which I do not like for various reasons, but between the smoke and the winter and lack of infrastructure I found it to be not nearly as great for biking as the Bend tourism board would have you believe.
I have a job opportunity in Sacramento or back in Denver. Personally I'm leaning towards Sacramento. I've visited family there in the winter over the years so I'm somewhat familiar.
I am a little concerned about the heat. I did work outside in Austin for a summer so I know I could survive Sacramento, but how's the biking there?
Are you able to bike year round, or 10 months out of the year? Are there biking groups that go year round or do y'all take a break because of the heat? At what point do you have to stop biking in the evenings because it is too hot?
Also, how do you find smoke season impacts things? I've been exposed to smoke season in Colorado but here it Bend it is on another level - I don't understand why anyone would live here. Would like to avoid somewhere that has months of smoky days.
I like Rapha and I am a mens medium. Gracias xie xie arigato
I will be visiting Sacramento late February/early March and am looking for some morning group rides. Any cubs/groups that do weekday and or weekend rides? I will be staying in the South Sacramento area but can drive/ride to the start. TIA.
The Almaden Cycle Touring Club (ACTC) invites you to celebrate Spring on Saturday, May 3, 2025 by riding some of the prettiest roads in southern Santa Clara County on our 46th annual Tierra Bella. Go to Tierrabella.org to register today!
Two events - one great day!
All routes start and end at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy CA.
Register today and receive an early bird discount! Registration for each ride is capped to limit the number of riders on the road and at rest stops, so don’t get left behind.
Whether you choose the challenge of a longer ride with beautiful climbs, or venture out for some fun and fitness on a pretty shorter, flatter route, you’ll be well supported. Over 200 ACTC volunteers will ensure your safety at intersections, provide SAG assistance, and be at multiple rest stops to offer great food, replenish liquids, and repair mechanical issues. Enjoy a hot beverage and nut breads before the ride and join in the finish line celebration with food trucks, beverages, fruit bars, and music (vouchers for food trucks must be pre-purchased).
When you register, you can choose to purchase a 2025 Tierra Bella Cycling Jersey separately or a cool looking T-Shirt.
In addition to the May 3rd festivities, your registration includes a free introductory ACTC membership through May 31, 2025 (or an extension for current club members). Club members have access to a wide variety of daily group rides for all skill levels, including conditioning rides to get you ready for the Tierra Bella (see the ACTC website, actc.org, for ride listings).

My friends and I are planning a gravel ride out of Sacramento and would love someone familiar with the area around Folsom Lake to check our routes for feasibility! I made them looking across a number of different local resources, but it's hard to know what's actually doable. We'll be riding gravel bikes with tires starting at 35mm.
We live in the East Bay, so our plan is to take the first Amtrak out of Oakland to get to Sac and start biking around 9:30am on a Saturday, spend the night in Auburn, and bike back to Sac on Sunday.
Out: from Sac, we want to take the ARBT, ride up the west side of Folsom Lake, and take Auburn Folsom rd up to Auburn. (route)
Back (next day): we want to head back to Sac on the east side of Folsom Lake, hopefully hitting some fire roads and non-technical single/doubletrack. This is the one I'm most curious about - it seems like the trails I've picked are ridable (and roads aren't too car-heavy), but would love someone with experience in that area to weigh in if possible. Better to just come down the way we went up? (route)
We had initially planned on riding from Sac up to Placerville, picking up the El Dorado trail around Shingle Springs, but after watching some videos of the ED trail I'm skeptical of how fun that would be as a climb.
Thanks for any tips!
Cyclist looked to be ok but was taken away in an ambulance. Driver stayed on scene. Had a big dent in his driver’s side bumper. Stay safe out there everyone and wear a helmet!
The original Folsom Dam built in the late 1800s. You can see it from the American River bike trail just below Folsom Lake Crossing.
Hi there,
Just moved to the area and tried taking a ride on the American River Bike Trail. As I was moving West to East, I hit multiple detour signs. Tried ignoring them but ended up at the I-80 (Capitol freeway, whatever it's called. new here.) which looked like it was mostly mud and construction equipment.
Maps show this as one connected trail. Is this construction temporary? Is there an estimated completion date?
Can one mountain bike around Folsom lake without hopping off trails? I know there is a trail at Beals point but does it go completely around the lake?
I’m trying to avoid cars if possible.
What is your favorite stretch of the ARBT and why?
I personally enjoy the series of corners just past Willow Creek Recreation Area on the south side trail of Lake Natoma as you’re going east toward Folsom. They’re fun to ride down.
What section do you think has the best views?
I’m looking for a new commuter bike that is not a sport bike derivative and have read good things about omafiets. Are there any shops in the area that carry them?
Thanks
What’s your favorite century ride/race in NorCal? How does it compare to the Sac Century?
I’m pretty shook up after almost getting hit last night. I was riding southeast on Carlson Dr. crossing J St and into the Sac State entrance. All the lights were down, blinking red. I waited my turn and crossed the road and tried to time it with a car also crossing, but I was too slow. A car at the stop sign on the west side pulled up to the stop sign, I thought I made eye contact with them and directed my helmet headlight at them. But then they started driving immediately as I crossed in front of them. I turned left to swerve out of the way and fell with their car within a foot from me. Fortunately they stopped because I was completely laid out in the intersection. When I got up the first thing I saw was a ghost bike parked at the Sac State entrance. Driver drove away and another car stopped to check on me. A year and a half ago a former employee of mine, Chuck Carlson was killed on the Sac State campus by a reckless driver. Having the ARBP has given me a really false sense of safety while riding around Sacto - this City is not bike friendly at all. The streets are wide and I think we need dedicated and elevated pedestrian/bike lanes like in Copenhagen and Amsterdam. It doesn’t make sense that we can widen the freeway but do nothing to prioritize bike and pedestrian mobility. I also take issue with Sac State - do something about non-car safety on and around your campus!
Moved here about a year ago and finally brought my mountain bike from my hometown. Been riding for about 8 years and looking to get more involved in the mountain biking scene in Sac/the areas around here. Any favorite routes you go on? Happy to join any groups as well!
What are your favorite bike routes in NorCal that require minimal on-street riding?
Are there other examples of bike infrastructure like the ARBT elsewhere in NorCal?
