Have they opened back up the area that was closed just upriver from mile 3 on the Parkway?
Hey Sac Bikers, I'm heading to the convention center tomorrow for a conference and curious if anyone knows about secure bike parking options there or nearby. Does the convention center have a secure indoor bike parking area or valet or monitored bike parking? If not, is there a safe option nearby?

SAVE HOOT! Have you sent your email yet?
Do you love Hoot? Let the Tahoe National Forest know about it!
The US Forest Service is proposing to make substantial changes to Hoot Trail including reducing berms and eliminating rollers and other trail features. If you value Hoot Trail, they need to hear from you.
Please provide your comments via email to District Ranger Tom Parrack at thomas.parrack@usda.gov and Forest Supervisor Beth Martinez at elizabeth.martinez@usda.gov. Tell them why you love Hoot, a fun story from the trail, or why you think it should remain unchanged.
They need to hear from you now! Take action by Friday November 15 before USFS starts on this work.
Anyone know any well lit areas to ride? Specifically starting around midtown? I usually ride around 5-7 pm but my usual route along the ARBT is dark and it makes me nervous to ride alone. Any recommendations?
It’s not paved yet, but this is the first time I’ve seen it possible to pass from the river trail at Sac State all the way to Sutters Landing C/28. I don’t know if it’s passable under the freeway during the week.
This one kinda broke my brain when I went to get my bike this morning… there’s a first for everything 🤷🏻♂️ 🖕🏻RIP Hobbes
The final (and most fun) Rodecross is tomorrow, the 30th! The final event is a costume parade, NOT a race so come dressed up and enjoy the course or hang out and heckle your friends! https://www.folsomrodeocross.com/

Volunteers are needed for both set up and clean up and is SUPER fast enough hands. They feed and beer their volunteers and the more people help, the faster you get dinner! https://www.instagram.com/p/DBtz66ZycHd/
In their investigation, police concluded that the person who broke the law that day was [12-year old] Wong. She activated the flashing pedestrian signal and rode her bike through the crosswalk at Sutterville Road and Mead Avenue, where she was hit by a driver who’d been traveling east at the speed limit — 35 mph. The crash could have easily killed her.
“As a bicyclist,” the police report says, “(Wong) is in violation.”
This is from the Bee's excellent series on pedestrian and cyclist safety. Article here. By the way -- this accident happened several years ago.
I've puzzled over this for a while. As best I can tell, the issue is that only pedestrians have the explicit right of way in crosswalks. So since the girl was on a bike, the car had the right of way -- according to the police department.
That is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It reinforces my own feeling that HAWK signals (without a real road diet) are a waste of money because you cannot expect cars on a stroad to stop for them.
Trying to buy a kid hauler but want to make sure it’s serviceable locally. Where should I shop? It seems like no one sells Terns here.
It's at the police station now.
Edit: the trail is open and I am a shit starter.
I drove past that section of the the new trail that comes up from where the trail crosses the levee and runs up to Pocket rd, where it kind a parallels Freeport - the VCA is right there. There was a fence around the whole area. Does anyone know whats up with that space?
The entire Sacramento Northern Bikeway (north and south of Pipe's Bridge) is clear of camps and loose dogs. First time in my 4 years of commuting that area! Still a lot of trash and debris to clean up. Let's see how long it lasts.
Is it possible to ride the closed streets before the Ironman gets started?
A little strip after pipe bridge is now getting cleared out and moved out.
I wanted to share an exciting opportunity to be involved in the final report for the Streets for People plan while earning some quick cash! We are looking for photo models of all types, shapes, sizes, abilities, colors, creeds, and gender identities to participate in photo shoots at various locations throughout Sacramento, showcasing our active transportation efforts. These images will be used in the Streets for People final report.
Anyone 18 years or older who participates can earn a $75 gift card, which can be optionally split into denominations of $5 and used at a variety of stores, or you can opt for a Visa gift card. It’s a great way to help us capture the diversity of our city while earning some extra cash. To find out more about the photo shoot locations and to share your interest, please complete this Google form:
https://forms.gle/u7nwiEw2tpsRz4UaA My photographer will be in contact with you to schedule your session. Additionally, if you have any upcoming events or opportunities where you or your team will be using active transportation (e.g., biking, walking, scootering), and you think it would be a good opportunity for my photographer to attend and capture photos, we would love to hear about it! Participants in those sessions would also be eligible for the $75 stipend.
Don't delay—space is limited, and we’d like to wrap up this project in the next few weeks! Please reach out with any questions!
My Trek was stolen last night between midnight and 5am off of N. 11th Street/Dos Rios. I'm going to be looking around Bannon and whatever the street is alongside Goldies in a minute after coffee.. But, if anyone were to have spotted this bike anywhere else, any info would be much appreciated!
Hello everybody. Anybody doing riding regularly close to Citrus Heights. I am a beginner looking for a group ride couple of days a week. Paved trails only. Hope to hear back soon!
There will be rides for all abilities, a 14 mile and 3 mile route to choose from. A costume contest, post ride games where you can win a MARIN mountain bike, tour the small town and more. Details here: https://www.amadortrailstewardship.org/event-details/autumn-roll-about-costume-ride
I’m doing the Brown Bear and was thinking of doing the ride on 10/20 to train for it. If anyone else would be down maybe we could sync up let me know. I did the HOG this month, about the same distance and elevation and it took me about 6h 20m to give you an idea of how fast/slow I am. 47 y/o male if that matters at all. Good luck to everyone riding!
Peace
I used to give drivers a little bit of bail-money because, as a former state worker that used to drive from South Sac to downtown via Freeport, I know how the morning rush-hour is but, Naw....NAW!
They are getting more egregious with bike-lane shaving and taking it a bit too far.
To all my fellow cyclists of the LandPark area, please keep your head on a swivel when riding northbound on Freeport between the Sutterville split..(the 2 seperate Starbucks: the Southern Sutterville Starbucks & Northern Sutterville Starbucks respectively). The bike-lane between that sutter-split gets dangerously shaved by drivers that are pre-maturely merging, overzealously vying for position to make that right-turn at the City-College intersection in the morning circa 7am-thru-8am.
I get it and I know why they do it but it creates a huge hazard for cyclists.
For a better visual of what I'm saying: If a cop car was sitting in the Naumans funeral home parking lot, he'd have a veritable field-day writing tickets right there...LOLOLLOLLL. If you are northbound, the bike-lane is ALREADY COMPROMISED before you even reach Naumans. That says a lot! ...O_O
Its to the point where the City is gonna have to get involved by creating fortifications to protect the bike lane on that stretch similar to the recent bike-lane-fortifications that have been deployed in midtown/downtown(c) J street or 21st street north of X etc.....Otherwise, I've basically resorted to hanging a right on 20th Ave to circumvent all that madness but it shouldn't have to be that way. I know I'm not the only one seeing this problem develop....
Peace....
Curious if there's a way to find out when they're open. I went by today around 12:30 (open hours posted as 10am-2pm) and no one was there.
Edit: ignore me - I thought today was Friday 🫠
