I am looking into getting my first bike and thought a lightweight low maintenance bike would be nice. I’d like to stay under $1000, but if I could get closer to $700 that would be ideal. I’m in the Midwest so mostly flat terrain, I will probably lean more towards biking on roads with some off-road every once in a while.
Am I looking into the right things for a first bike? What is important when looking, and what are your preferences?
Hey all,
I am new to the fixedgear game and looking for advice. Someone is selling FUNKED UP bike for 150€. Would you say it's a good deal?
I need a new freewheel and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the cost to jump to a WI ENO or just stick with a mid-priced offering like the Halo Clickster. This is for my cruising around town / running errands bike. Whatcha think?? Thanks!
I am ready to build a new wheel set for my 29er single speed (2014 Salsa el Mariachi MTB). I have chosen an Industry Nine hub set as they have single speed free hub and 15mm front axels. I tend to run 2.2-2.4 tires tubeless. So rim choice is where I am stuck with too many choices IDK about carbon fiber and just want reliability. I’m 87kg 190lbs / 175cm 5’9” and ride single track 90% or more on this bike.
Are there recommendations for hoops? Looking at RaceFace AR offset, but I’m just kind of wanting to avoid just getting what I know. So many choices, it is a blur… Is there anything I need to be thinking ahead on?
Building up a new singlespeed frame soon a thinking about wheels, the frame can handle up to 32mm tyres.
I would really appreciate some of your reccommendations for decent not exobitantly expensive singlespeed wheelsets.
I've never been the most clued up when it comes to componants and which brands are better then others.
Was looking at these santa fixies

halo aero track and the miche express, but the internal width seems to small for the tyres I want.
(i don't know exactly the correct name for those bars)
regular flat bar brake levers or bar end brake levers? which should i go for? are the bar end levers less practical and am i creating an inconvenience?
in case i go for bar end brake levers, do i get a shorter stem to compensate for the extended position?
My Spot Rallye single speed belt-drive bike. My favorite bike ever and they quit making them.
Hello,
I have an old Velo Sport (Canadian Peugeot) that I want to convert to single speed with a coaster brake for the winter. I don't want to change anything except the rear wheel.
The original crankset has 2 gears and I wish to use the bigger gear with it. What do I need to do to make sure the chain is straight behind the front gear and the back one ?
Thanks in advance
My go-to commuter bike the last couple years.
Only a few safety/comfort pieces were bought - fenders, saddle, bell, pedals, lights, brake pads, front rack. everything else has been from trash piles, even the tires and chain. Getting a bit crusty after ~5,000 kms and a few years, but still an almost-perfect city bike.
any suggested brands for pads or whatever don’t know much bout bike brakes so anything helps just want smooth n responsive I guess ? these came with the bike so im assuming they just like generic
Hello, I am looking for advice on changing my gear ratio. I ride a flip flop hub single speed bike and the stock gear ratio is 46:16. I want to increase my gear inches as I don't struggle to get up hills and would like to increase my top speed. The chain on the bike is 1/2" x 1/8". I initially thought to get a 15t freewheel but after looking online for 15t freewheels that fit 1/8" chains they all say BMX. Does this just mean that they aren't made for fixie style bikes? Or does it not really matter? I am very new to upgrading bike components so any advice would be greatly appreciated
Recently retired the old heavy Schwin Cutter after 3000kms. The old online mojo special is a few kilos lighter which is showing in the average speeds. Keen to get it out and break in with a few 100km rides this summer.
Just found this place and happy to be among some fellow single speed enthusiasts! This is my Surly Bridge Club with a single speed conversion. I’m planning on replacing the rear hub with a PAUL disc word hub and White Industries free hub this winter, along with a few other updates.
I bough an unkown fixie and I am going to put brakes on the front....what should I buy? Thanks for the help!
