Hello, I'm new to the area, I am specifically in Escondito and looking for someone who would like to meet up and do some weekend rides on the road.
I know there are a lot of group rides around here, I've always preferred smaller 2-4 man (or woman) rides though as its less that can go wrong.
I roll at around 3w/kg for an hour easy ride or 2w/kg for basically forever. I've just been doing 60-120miles once a week on Saturday or Sunday.
I have a few long rides I would like to do sometime in the future out here but I'm open to suggestions even if its a once a month ride together. My Dm's are open or comment below.
I am thinking about hitting that route this weekend with some friends visiting out of town. Has anybody been up there recently?
Is it snowy, open, rideable?
SAFETY FIRST: REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR HELMET. WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO ATTEND THIS MEETUP WITHOUT WEARING A HELMET!! BRING AS MUCH PROTECTION AS YOU THINK YOU NEED. KNEEPADS, ELBOWPADS WELCOMED. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY!
We're ok with skateboards, long boards, roller skates, and the like.
We'll be meeting at syd korenthal park RIGHT next to the jefferson/La Cienega METRO EXPO LINE station. Busses and Metro allow for bikes! We're meeting where the bike path starts and riding it 10 miles all the way to the beach!
The whole bike path is 10 miles should take us approximately 45 minutes to complete. But if we're going at a super leisurely pace and fucking around it should take up more like an hour and a half.

Once we get to the beach. Then we will either go north towards the Santa Monica pier or south, or we'll bike back, We'll take a vote on what we want to do when we get to the ocean. It will be 100% democratic, we'll decide what to do when we get to the ocean, and of course anyone that wants to split up is welcome to anytime. My suggestion is we end up at the Santa Monica pier since it will allow us to go to the last expo station so people can use the same metro line we met near to get back to where we started for reasons of going home.
Although I'll be using mass transit, Some people might have cars and want to transport their bikes to our starting location by car. Ending at the Santa Monica Pier allows those with cars to use the EXPO line to get back to the park that we started at. That will give anyone who wants to leave an easy out, but I figure we'll hang out past sunset somewhere we can physically watch our bikes when not in use.
Enter your address here and google will tell you which buses you can take to get there. All buses and mass transit are able to take bicycles. https://www.google.com/maps/dir//Syd+Kronenthal+Park/@34.0271137,-118.3766466,928m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x80c2b99bbbf5d4f3:0x54e3f90be8e05c97!2m2!1d-118.37756!2d34.0275289!3e3
Just put your address in the above google maps link and it will show you hwo to use mass transit to get there, any bus can hold your bike for you while you ride.
We'll be at the park with our bikes, we'll be the only ones with bikes so we shouldn't be hard to spot.
If you're on our discord server you will earn the "attended" rank by attending this meetup! We will also be handing out a link to our private "green room" whatsapp chatroom for previous attendees of meetups, think of it as a "chatroom for vouched people".
Now , since reddit doesn't have an RSVP system, you can use this one we've set up at meetup.com to RSVP to this event: https://www.meetup.com/SocalRedditors/events/257832022/
It's not obligatory though!, if you don't want to use meetup and you can come, just say so in the comments, and be sure to edit or delete your comment if you change your mind! We need a general idea of how many people are coming.
If you're looking for other ways to find us you can join us in our chatroom on WhatsApp by tapping this link on your phone (doesn't work on PC):

This is only the public chatroom. Attendees of this meetup get access to our chatroom for those who have previously attended a meetup.

Thinking about doing a series of bike rides in Los Angeles county on upcoming Saturdays this year.... Not consecutive Saturdays... Just once in a while.
The next one is coming up this Saturday:

You've now been officially notified 3 days out. Was that too soon or too late?
Hi, does anyone commute by bike in SD? I'm moving here this month and found a great place to live three blocks off the beach in Oceanside and close to the train station. I will be working on Point Loma, and was wondering if anyone thinks it's feasible to bring a bike on the Coaster, ride into Old Town, then take the Mission Bay bike trail and some neighborhood routes out onto Point Loma.
BTW, we like Oceanside because it's close-ish to my husband's job, and the only affordable place where we can live at the beach. We'd like to find a place closer to my job on Point Loma but rent costs and a 2 hour commute for my husband are making that less ideal. Plus, I would wayyyy rather ride a train and just chill/read/nap for an hour then get to ride my bike for 30-45 minutes instead of commuting in traffic in my car for the same amount of time.
Thank you!
I am a beginner looking to maybe set up a group ride. My speed is between 10-12mph so that would be the pace. My regular weekend ride is around 20 miles leaving from Cerritos and heading down to seal beach and back. Is there anyone around interested to maybe do a group ride one weekend?
My wife and dad and I did our weekend beach ride. Left cerritos and ended in Seal Beach. Did the double loops in El Dorado and then back to cerritos. My longest ride so far and may add some mileage soon.
What about you? How was your ride today?
With tomorrows weather getting ridiculous again, remember to stay hydrated if you are going out for a ride. We moved our 8am ride to a 6am ride. Hopefully get the 20 miles before it gets to damn hot out there.
Drink that water!
I am looking to offload my Specialized Stumpjumper 29er Evo Hardtail. I haven't ridden this bike very much recently and I want to get something slightly different. I would consider a trade for an equivalent Gravel Grinder/ adventure bike (I currently have my eye on Niner RLT 9).
I am also looking to offload my Specialized Transition Comp Triathlon bike. Im not competing in triathlons anymore so I dont need this bike in the stable.
I can not figure out how to upload photos to this post.
Hi All,
I suck.
At the time I created this sub, I was very involved in my local bicycle advocacy organization, was doing consulting work for my City, and managing a bike shop at the same time. I lived and breathed bicycles.
Things have changed a lot since then - I left the bicycle industry entirely for 2 years, and now I am back in but only part-time, and I just punch the clock, wrench on some bikes, then leave.
I had great intentions of growing this sub and growing this community and creating a fun network of people to ride with - and that didn't happen whatsoever.
So - I am asking you, the 690 subscribers to this sub:
Are any of you interested in growing and moderating this community?
If you have ideas about how to grow this community, or if you want a hand in crafting and developing it, please let me know. I will be looking to make some administrative changes here in the next two weeks.
Thank you all.

I'm looking for an electric road or hybrid type thing with flat bars.
My dad and I are going to the Tour of California Gibraltar Rd segment on Monday. Last time, he couldn't make it up the climb, so I suggested he rent an e-bike this time. He was against it at first, but I told him that I saw plenty of dudes riding electric bikes just to keep up with their pals. He tried out a pedego the other day and didn't like it. Those things are kinda goofy. They have these wide cruiser-type handlebars.
Most places I've found only offer goofy beach cruiser things or enduro MTBs. One place in Santa Barbara had a decent MTB that might work, if we could swap out wheels or put slicks on 'em, but that's less than preferable.
We are traveling from Redondo Beach, CA. Bike Attack Electric in Santa Monica has the right kind of bikes, but they say no overnight renting (past 6pm) and I'm not sure we'll be back by then.
