Gday cyclists.
Wanting to test/experience the new Sram AXS 1x13 group on a decent 2–3 ride. Are there any shops renting out high-end bikes like this?
I did a trip once to Colorado and rented a fancy electro-shift road bike for a day, so hoping there’s a similar option here.
Thanks in advance!
Hiya - I recently was overseas in Europe and realised I wanted to get back into getting around by bike after enjoying doing errands and sightseeing with hire/sharebikes.
The options I've shortlisted:
There are currently some great sales on at Decathlon and I am torn between the Decathlon ELOPS City 120 CN vs City Speed 900. The City Bike 120 CN is on deep (probably clearance) sale at $269 and the City Speed 900 is on price reduction at $400. I'm open to other models or brands but am not too sure where to look besides Decathlon and 99 Bikes/Merida. I feel like I have a budget of $400 and then want to save up to buy a MTB for trial runs.
Comfort:
I noticed I much prefer the comfort of the more upright position you can experience on Dutch/European bikes. The athletic leaning position feels a bit hunchback-like and I only felt like it was comfortable when I owned an MTB and had to scale up high inclines.
Though at the same time, my understanding is that the more standard bike frame is better for speed and power/acceleration when cycling on roads?
Use case:
I live in Sydney and most of the inner suburbs of the city are flat and have a decent "bike highway" European-style bike lanes with curbs. My intention is just go do errands on the bike that I'd normally do getting around by foot as well. Additionally, just randomly cycling around the city and parkland/urban bike trails for leisure and excercise rather than commuting to work.
Which of the two would be a better choice for what I intend to use the bike for? Are the options I've shortlisted decent value for money? Thanks in advance! :)
Looking at this 2nd hand on market place. Could people who have a bit more knowledge let me know if they are decent bikes. First road bike so looking at entry level stuff.
Hi everyone, I've just entered myself into a sprint tri early next year and I'm on the look out for a bike. Currently looking on Marketplace and found a 2nd hand Reid Falco elite road bike with Shimano 105 groupset.
As this is my first tri I don't want to invest a heap of money into a carbon fiber bike just yet, could people let me know thoughts on the bike if they've had one. How are they? I won't be doing huge distances initially Picture attached, sellers wanting $700 with a few extras thrown in, helmet, saddle bag, bike lock.
I got a budget of 500 AUD, its usually flat ground/road, I would say about 20km a day.
How to see if the bike is worth the money? Either used/new is fine
Been looking at the marketplace and overwhelm by all the choices. Any tips on whats a good used bike? Also saw some fixies and geared one. Which one is better for daily commuting.
Thanks for the input in advance, btw I am in Melbourne
I recently bought a 2017 CBR500R (Repairable Write Off) off my friend, he traded his dirt bike from another seller on facebook, and that seller claimed that he bought the CBR off auction and had nothing done to it. I got it with no rwc or rego and was planning to rebuild the motorbike again. I then noticed that theres no VIN stamped on the bike frame, this is my first ever vehicle that i've purchased so ive never dealt with Vicroads registering paperwork before. Is there a way or a place I can get a replacement VIN number? I have the paperwork from auction that has the VIN number on it, it's just that it's not stamped on the bike.
If it helps I'm located in Melbourne so I deal with Vicroads
Is there such a thing? I've suddenly found myself getting a bit older and a bit blinder and might need to wear my glasses more often than not. Haven't found a solution for the bike yet, if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be much appreciative.
Black Friday is here! I'm looking for a starter bike for getting around and exploring. What would you recommend with a $500 budget? Thanks!! https://www.99bikes.com.au/
Can anybody tell me where I can get a replacement expansion plug for a Scott Foil 2022? Preferably a shop in Melbourne rather than online, but any answer is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'm looking at getting my first bike for road cycling and was wondering if anyone has experience with bikes from Decathlon. I know it's often recommended to buy used for better value, but I don't have anyone to help me find a quality secondhand bike. If I were to buy new, does anyone have recommendations for a bike in the ~$500 range? Specifically, does anyone have experience with the Triban RC 100 . Otherwise are there any other bikes I should be looking at?
I've got a road bike and I want to put gravel tyres (and possibly wheels) on it. Can anyone suggest a bike shop that's particularly good with gravel bikes to help me out? I'm in Sydney on the North Shore.
I'm looking to buy an EMB to ride with some friends and I've gone and looked at the Giant Talon E+ 1. They don't have their sales out yet but I want to purchase something in the next week.
From a value perspective in the $3k range, is there any other bikes that you would consider? Is it worth looking at the Trek Marlin+ 6 or any other bikes or is the Talon the best value for a beginner that's looking to ride some basic trails and basic offroad (farm roads, etc.).
Hey Reddit,
I’m looking for some advice on purchasing a new eBike. Here’s my situation:
• Background: My car is primarily used by my wife, and we’ve recently moved to a new location. I have cricket and badminton practices within a 5-6 km radius.
• Commute Goals: I’m new to cycling for commuting, so I want to try it out without breaking the bank in case it doesn’t suit me long-term.
• Questions:
I’d love recommendations for a reliable, beginner-friendly eBike that won’t cost too much. Bonus points for tips on accessories or things I should consider as a first-time bike commuter.
Thanks in advance for your advice! 🚴♂️
Hey there, so I'm considering getting an ebike so I can cancel my uber subscription and ride the bike to work instead, itll also be good exercise and help with weight. I was looking at these two specifically, but may go for the second one as it's a bit cheaper and has a higher weight limit(I'm plus sized) and is foldable :) thank you! Budget is around 2500 and range would probably be 35-40 max, I only live about 2kms from work but my family lives about 17kms away
Hey all, I'm new here and I know nothing about bicycles. My wife inherited this Vitesse Vri 2013 bike, but we have no use of it and would like to sell. I think it would be worth something (brand new it seems to have been a few thousand), but there's no similar listings anywhere I can find (FB, Gumtree, various 2nd hand sites) and I can't get a feel for what it's worth. The frame is in good condition with a few scratches/scrapes here and there and some gadgets attached. The center gear works fine, but the right-hand pedal thread hole is completely stripped. However, it came with a spare center gear that's of a slightly larger size.
Any advice on selling/where to sell/where to gauge the price for this would be appreciated. I'll be happy to see it gone from the garage!
Hi,
My 8y is asking for a road bike with drop handle bars because his mtb is too slow. All second hand road bikes for kids Ive found are either expensive 300+ or will require quite a bit of work.
I tried to find a new bike for him but I’m struggling to find any brand that makes road bikes for kids. Can you recommend anything?
Thanks!
Hello, is the magene PES-505 power meter compatible with a Merida Scultura 100 Rim bicycle?
I live in the inner city of Melbourne and the majority of my rides (apart from general commuting) are recreational/fitness rides along creek trails and roads. I currently ride a Reid Urban X3, and while it's been a fun bike over the years for getting around, I'm looking to upgrade to something with better performance that will open up possibilities for longer rides (and be able to climb hills without getting completely gassed). I've always had issues with tight forearms due to work/active lifestyle, which has restricted the distance I can ride, so comfort has always been a big factor for me.
A few friends have recommended to go with a gravel bike as it's kind of the best of both worlds in that respect, and opens the door for more off road rides.
Budget is up to 3.5k (always a little bit of wiggle room), am currently looking at a Giant Revolt Advanced 3. I'm just wondering if because the majority of my riding will be in the city, is going with something like the revolt 3 advanced (which is carbon fibre) the best choice or would I be better off going with something more road focused.
Any advice would be appreciated, cheers team!
Hi Everyone!
I honestly have no clue what I am looking for but was after some recommendations for a beginner electric bike for a mum with two kids. I’m after something that would just help me pedal more so than anything. I currently have a regular cruiser but the little hills are killing me with the two kids in the trailer 😂 I’ll head into a bike shop soon but just want somewhere to start.
Mainly just a ride to the shops or kinder (7kms round trip) so nothing too far. I ride on footpaths the most. It would need to be suitable for a baby seat and my trailer.
Am I delusional thinking I can get something around the $600 mark? Although I am waiting for the Black Friday sales so maybe something around the $800 mark and hope it goes on sale?
Thanks!
Hey guys, just chasing some advice on purchasing my first second-hand road bike. A friend is selling his 2019 Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 for $2000 and I was wondering if this seems like a fair price? He’s owned the bike for about 2 years and has ridden it a handful of times. Having a look at the photos it appears to be in pretty good condition and is sitting at about the price range I was looking at. Any advice is appreciated.
Hi crew,
I am in the process of finding a commuter (20k/day) bike with a flat bar. I am tall and looking at a 'LG' size frame. My budget is ideally like $5-600, but I try to buy a quality brand, so happy to stretch it to $8-1000. It will go on road only and its fairly flat. I am mainly looking to avoid terrible brands and hopefully land on a well reputable brand/bike. I'd like the option of putting a rack on the back for a little bag if I get sick of the backpack.
Examples so far I have found is Specialized (Sirrus 5.0) etc. and I've understood to avoid Reid etc.
Any brands I should particularly go for or avoid?
Bonus Q - any specific models I should be looking at?
Hi all, I have a family of five, 3 kids, two adults. Kids are 12,8 & 6. I’m chasing recommendations on a good brand sold in Australia. Would love to hear your recommendations. Thanks in advance.
So, 11-12 years ago I used to ride. My car was stolen and I couldn't afford a replacement but I could afford an EOFY clearance Giant Defy 3. Bought it and rode almost exclusively for 2 years.
Now, I'm a gainfully employed professional with a boss who'd use the excuse of having employees who ride to have work pay for cycling trips as "team bonding exercises". So, I'm dusting off my old Defy and riding again but I kinda want something new.
Way back then I'd wanted to eventually upgrade to a carbon framed bike with disc brakes and a 105 groupset but I don't know anything about bikes anymore- is that still a good bike to be riding? Has it been obsoleted by something else? What would it cost me?
Looking at the world of cycling and a lot of my old knowledge seems to be useless (wtf is Claris? Is it the new Sora?) so can anyone provide some answers and guidance to those questions?
Hey, need some advice buying a bike. Looking for a flat road/hybrid bike for getting around when living in the city and for knee rehab now.
I would prefer as light a frame as possible, as I need to lift it in and out of my van which is above my centre of gravity.
When bike shopping in melb a few years ago I really loved the trek fx 1 and 3, but never bought. I also like the Cannondale quick but it was a bit stiffer, but fun because it was fast.
I am wanting to get into cycling for my knee and fitness, it's been a goal for a long time. I don't really want to spend $200 on an old bike that I'll need to service and replace parts straight away, one that I'll then likely upgrade from next year. It is also hard for me to find second hand hybrid bikes that are a size small on marketplace and gumtree.
I could buy a brand new bike like Merida speeder 10 or 20 bike for around $399-599. Or a Norco indie hybrid, a pedal hybrid bike. If anyone has recommendations for this bikes I would be grateful.
I'm leaning towards getting a Cannondale quick 5 from the bike exchange, for $499. I'm just not sure if I should spend that much on a second hand bike, does anyone have experience with the bike exchange? Would I just be buying the brand, I know that quick 5 is bottom of the quick range. There are no second hand Treks in my size and slarea ATM.
When buying a bike in the lower price range does it matter or are they all essentially made from the same parts?
I can't really spend more than 500-600 at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi all,
I am wanting to get an ebike for my 10km each way commute in the city. I am either looking for a step through, compact or foldable mid drive bike, with a battery that can be removed to charge, that's less than $3600.
I was wondering what you guys would reccomend.
There's one foldable here that is the avanti e Foldster that I think fits some of my criteria, but there's lacking reviews. Was wondering if any have had experience with this or looking at the specs if its ok: https://myride.com.au/products/avanti-e-foldster-2021-black-green?variant=39260958457996&srsltid=AfmBOor06_ilwqLTbm6wuhh9YV4canMzYLddo38JrtFrW1XzkdIldEG8cHI
Thanks!
My wife has recently started cycling to work (5km on the Yarra bike trail) and I wanted to buy her an upgrade as she has been using a 15 year old xds extreme xlite 24 which I "restored" with help from YouTube.
I bought her the Liv Rove 1dd pictured for $375 as I thought it ticked a lot of boxes and is only 2 years old. Was it an appropriate purchase? Or do I resell it and buy something more suitable? Thanks in advance.
So, just putting this out there to hopefully stop others from getting sucked into this. Don't trust this web site: molly-adelaide.com
I was sent a link by a mate while on the train back from the 'Gong ride today (fantastic day, highly recommend the 6am start - it is a game-changer not to be in the middle of the pack). I got caught up with the deals on this site and immediately purchased from it.
I got home and checked it out on my laptop - and then the doubt started. Doing some checks, I can see in the wayback machine that the site only went live on October 9th and has been in "closing sale" status from the start.
My bank is now disputing the charge and has cancelled my card. Argh. But better to rip the bandaid off now rather than have a compromised card getting hammered later tonight.
