Hi everyone, I may be moving back to the GR area after living away for the last 10 years.
Seems like quite a bit has changes in GR over the last decade, so curious about your experience / thoughts about commuting via bike in Grand Rapids now. Are there some areas that are better / worse than others for commuting to downtown? I remember the Jenison to Kentwood stretch being...challenging for biking when I lived there last, but curious to hear what you think might have changed.
Thanks in advance!

Long shot, but did anyone happen to find a black Smith helmet at the Kent county parks lot off Butterworth? I had it on top of my car and drove off by accident.
Thanks!
I'm visiting your fair city soon and staying southeast of the city center. Is Ken-O-Sha Trail (WMMBA) the only MTBing nearby? Sadly I am without an automobile this trip. And it's a 13 mile paved trip each way just to get to the trailhead.
Edit: Staying near Lake Campau (a few miles SE of the airport).
The routes I've been riding are relatively flat and I feel like I could improve my hill game. I've heard there are some good roads in the Cannonsburg/Rockford area, but don't know the area well enough to plan a route there. I appreciate any suggestions!
Looking for people to ride with this summer in Grand Rapids Michigan! I already know of Granttan ( Super fun), still looking for more!
Hey fellow GR cyclists!
I signed up for the Great Cycle Challenge to help raise money to fight cancer, specifically to fight kids' cancer. I'm not sure if this is allowed here, but I wanted to extend an invite to those who want to join my team to reach a mileage goal currently not set for the team (only set to default which is my mileage goal of 150mi for the month of June).
Our team is called GR Riders and I am inviting you to join us to ride throughout June. How does Great Cycle Challenge work? You set yourself a ride target and pedal it down over the month, logging your miles via a free app which is linked to your personal rider page (or you can use Strava which is what I use. Not sure if MapMyRide works as well or not). It's a great excuse to get on your bike!
To join our team, check out our team page below:

I hope you can join GR Riders and pedal with us this June to end childhood cancer.
Have a great day and enjoy your rides!
Hi folks!
I'm coming to Grand Rapids for a wedding in a few weeks and am hoping to get some good miles in on Saturday before the ceremony. Does anyone know of a local bike shop that rents road bikes?
Any alleycats or people interested in starting one?
Yo. Has anyone been on Monroe the last week or so? Was the fancy bike path plowed?
How's everybody's commute going so far this winter? Personally I've fallen a few times, especially during the storm 2 weeks ago, figured out you riding the trails isn't a short cut when you you're on a road bike and I'm pretty sure I scared a fellow commuter on union tonight unintentionally when overtaking. But all this riding has made me love winter commuting a bit more than spring/summer/fall riding. Also the expressions from drivers always gets a laugh out of me.
First snow of the season and I went down hard. Didn’t even make it to the end of my street and I bit it hard. Pretty sure I sprained my wrist. Bitched up and walked my bike back to the house and am currently waiting an uber.
Any tips and tricks to help me avoid that tomorrow. I would really like to bike this winter but I am pretty scared now. My commute has some gnarly downhills I am currently imagining my death on.
Hello everyone. This winter is going to be my first attempt at commuting to work by bike. My daily trip is a little less than 5 miles each way and I’m experimenting with my layers; I don’t think I’ll have any trouble staying warm as I have plenty of clothes , wool base layers and snow pants and waterproof boots and all that jazz. I think that I am going to have more trouble not overheating. But I digress...
I just want some insider knowledge on the conditions of the roads after nights of snowing. I live very close to downtown and ride from the northwest side across the river to the area where Grandville turns into Chicago drive. Do they plow pretty quickly or is it a little hit or miss based off of the amount of snowfall? I don’t plan on riding when the roads are icy and will just ride the bus on those days.
Any insight would be appreciated. : )
Hope my fellow commuters packed their rain gear and are staying dry today.
