Honolulu Gravel Rides!

Hi everyone, I'm planning a trip to HNL this weekend and looking for recommendations for some road/gravel rides with the best views possible! The one climb I was looking at is Tantalus but having trouble finding information or photos from the top.

I will have a car so the starting point doesn't have to be in HNL. I am happy to do as much climbing as needed to get a view of the island. Hoping for something in the 40-60km range and can be a mix of road and gravel.

Let me know your recommendations.

P.S. If anyone is keen to join don't hesitate to reach out!

Multiday tour of the big island

A few friends and I were looking at doing a multi-day roadbike trip around Hawaii this spring/summer. We're hoping to go guideless just to conserve costs.

Was hoping for any general tips about best 5-6 day loops, best time of year or links to where folk have already discussed it.

We're not experts on bikes, but pretty comfortable. Is traffic pretty dangerous on the island?

Thanks!

Tips for biking on Lanai?

Hey! I'm visiting Maui this winter and would love to do some biking on Lanai. Is it possible to rent a mountain or gravel bike in Lanai? The one shop that looked great seems to have gone out of business. I'm not interested in ebikes. If nothing is available on Lanai to rent, would it be possible to bring a bike over on the ferry? I have also been excited to do the west Maui loop, but a little nervous about the traffic. Is it really terrible?

Thanks so much for your help. I'm excited to visit such a beautiful place.

[Oahu] What's betterWhat's better in O'ahu? Mountain biking or Road/Gravel (mixed Surface) Riding?

I will be in O'ahu staying with a friend for 2 weeks. I was planning to bring either my gravel bike or my mountain bike (I am advanced on both). Does anyone have any route recommendations as to what would be the best to bring?

From a mountain biking perspective, it looks like there are limited but some very good options (see MTB project). I have been less successful in finding any gravel routes, and while there are road options there do seem to be a lot of complaints about riding with traffic. However, I do like the flexibility of having a gravel bike as obviously its more versatile than a full suspension bike. (I may also rent a MTB one day if I bring the gravel bike).

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. And if you want to ride, DM me!

Advice for Interisland flight with bike on Hawaiian Airlines

I was just gifted a flight from Oahu to Lanai next week to do some riding. It is a day trip so I will not have anywhere to store a bike travel case and I will have to reassemble it there and disassemble it for the flight back. Does anyone have experience bringing their bike with them to a different island?

2019 swift campout june 22-23

The swift campout is happening again this year.

I have failed every year to actually participate in this. Not sure how many years that is, but I think I've been aware since they started doing it.

Anyway, I'm thinking/planning to do this this year, and go to Kaiaka Bay Beach Park. From what I see it's not possible to reserve a spot more than 2 weeks in advance, so that might fall apart. Also, I've never actually camped at this park before.

Posting here to see if there are other folks interested, or already planning to do this.

Oahu biking

I'll be in Honolulu at the end of April/Early May. I'd like to get in a ride or two while I'm there. Are there trails/routes starting in Honolulu that are 40-50 miles? Safe roads? Thanks!
