I just saw this today, reported it to the city immediately. This is extremely dangerous especially at night. I looked at Google Street View and it's been like that for TWO YEARS?
Does anyone regularly ride through PSP at night?
I went at sundown and it was really fun because there’s not as many people there so I can blast my lights and zip through.
Then I went in full darkness and got like 500m in and got scared and zipped out lol. Someone told me that there’s often sketchy people in PSP at night - can anyone confirm or deny their personal experience with this? I saw some solo joggers which is encouraging
Also are coyotes a real threat? I saw one up pretty close by the road but it seemed scared of me and ran off.
I've recently noticed a strange clicking or cracking sound when I pedal hard on my bike. The noise started after I removed and reinstalled my rear wheel a few times and used a water spray to clean it, so I think that may be the cause. However, since the rear wheel has a relatively complex mechanical structure and I don't what exactly cause the issue, I'm not confident I can fix it myself.
I'm planning to take the bike in for service. The most convenient options for me are the Bike Kitchen at UBC or a shop in Richmond. Does anyone know how much it usually costs to fix an issue like this? Also, any recommendations for affordable and skilled bike shops in the Greater Vancouver area would be appreciated.
Hi all, would any of you know if a LBS in the Greater Vancouver area sells TT helmets? I'd really like to try them on before buying. TIA!
I would like to buy a Brodie Elan 2.0. But unfortunately I can't find any review.
Anyone here that has it what's your opinion?
I unfortunately received notice today that the Tour de Cure is shutting down: https://tourdecure.ca
This was a ride I trained for each year. It was a really well supported and managed ride and pushed me well.
My friend and I are now looking at what other rides like that are there out there to train towards?
Of course, there's the Whistler Gran Fondo, but I'm not sure if that's a bit too close to a race rather than a nice, amicable ride.
Anyone got some suggestions?
Didn't expect this roadblock.
Does anyone have the left hand pedal thread repair helicoil kit (9/16 -20 LEFT threaded) I could borrow and use one helicoil for a fee or a pack of beer?
Anyone recommend some that last more than a season? This is 5km commute, remove whilst running to a meeting type rain pants.
Maybe starting out by honking at me wasn't the best way to open the discussion, but I really had an opening to explain why I was riding on the road there instead of the bike lane.
Your opener "hey, nothing against you man, just wondering why you're riding in the road when there's a bike lane there" was the perfect opener to explain to someone what's wrong with that particular bike lane.
If I hadn't been sleep deprived, conflict-worn, and at 155bpm heart rate from trying to maintain 35km/h on that stretch, I could have replied with the answer I'd always wanted to give, which is "good question man. Pull over up ahead and I'll lend you my bike so you can ride this bike lane."
I could have explained that every time I had ridden that bike lane with my kids in the trailer, I've broke a spoke, which has cost me around $35 in parts and labour each time.
The bike lane was inexplicably built inboard of the curb letdowns, presumably by some apathetic city engineer who hasn't been on a bike since he was about 8. The design speed appears to be around 12 km/h, which makes it functionally useless at removing traffic from the road. It's also not a lane I'd use for teaching my kids how to ride a bike, so it has no practical use.
It really could have opened a conversation around "if the only road available to you and your truck allowed you to only travel at 15 km/h and put both you and pedestrians in constant danger, would you use it?"
I could have explained that I was on that bike lane for the last 3 blocks, and had dodged people walking in it having conversations, tradies parked in it, cars trying to right-hook me, and people just standing in it staring at me as I approached, so I gave up and hit the road section two blocks before the 53 Ave roundabout rather than the usual one block before.
I hit max boost on my ebike and pedalled hard to try to hold 32 km/h, because I do my best to be courteous, but I didn't explain myself well tonight. Sorry.
Edit: it was here: 5330 203 St https://maps.app.goo.gl/N8e5T2bnCq91t2YXA?g_st=ac
Edit: this is in r/vancouvercycling rather than r/langley because I don't really have bandwidth for conflict right now. I'm sure there will be people in the comments who can't imagine a life that doesn't involve driving everywhere anyway, and I'll do my best to be patient with them, but I don't think the issue bears more explanation than I've already made.
Too bad it doesn't go all the way to Iona Beach Regional Park or the outlet!

Hey everyone,
I was hoping to bike from Horseshoe Bay to Whisler in mid-November. Has anyone done this, and what would be wise to expect for weather conditions when getting closer to Whistler?
What was the latest (month) that you biked from Horseshoe Bay to Whistler, and how did it go for you?
I want to avoid certain places like downtown eastside, some busy roads ect even if it means biking out of the way. Eg I want the app to never reroute me through there no matter what.
I also want to be able to create and save routes.
Is there a map app with these features?
So in July, I had the misfortune of being rear-ended by an Uber driver who pushed the bike into North Shore Rack and caused a lot of damage. Then the next two months (in prime riding season) we painfully spent going back and forth with the advisor getting all the receipts, photos and quotes. They kept coming back with different requests which finally ended with them requesting a cost to fix the bike. (a replacement of a lot of parts including a new frame)
In the end, they opted to pay me out 86% of the total build value after calculating 2 years of depreciation and excluding tax. I'll be honest, I did fine out of this but I was pretty gutted with how it was managed and all the hoops they made me go through.
The saddest part for me was it was a very customised bike and I grew a lot of attachment to it. So when I had to drop it off at a claims centre for them "salvage" was a tough pill to swallow. (I pleaded to purchase it back to put on the wall)
Does anyone know where it will go and if there is a chance I can purchase it back from the salvage company. (apparently, it's a third party)
Also happy to share details if people want tips if they end up in the same situation as me.
PS. Still waiting on my bike rack to be assessed as ICBC again changed what details they wanted.

Ya, Someone Smashed 4 glass or so bottles on the north end of the south bound bike lane of the Cambie Street Bridge. I have a flat now. Watch out.
It was open last Sunday when I rode there. I believe the road cycling lane (on the road) is complete now too. I didn't ride that on Saturday, but it's been mostly complete throughout the summer. That's all I've got.
I'm looking to find a club or group that does group rides. Hoping to find a social club that would welcome an older and slower male rider (nearing 50 years old, ride at 22kmh). I've done the Whistler fondo a couple times and a couple triple crown attempts so my heart's in it even if my pace isn't great.
I know we're getting in to the off season so I'll be doing a lot of Zwift, but I don't mind cold/wet rides if they're going on. My biggest goal would be to find a sociable group that is accepting of someone at my pace.
Im in East Vancouver but can get anywhere in metro Van.
Anyone else noticed more dog poo bags in the roads recently along bike lanes? I don’t use protected or green painted lanes mostly so I’m referring to just ‘normal’ roads along a bike path.
Do we think it’s people being shitty or?
Watch out out there people! I ride everyday and recently got hit by a car breaking a red light which gave me a six week concussion and some. Today, cycling up Richards St between Dunsmuir and Georgia, this car was ripping, and I mean RIPPING towards me in the bike lane going the wrong way to the one way traffic. They didn’t slow down even when I was shouting at them. I had to jump up on the sidewalk to the right to avoid getting mowed down. I took this picture over my shoulder and tried to get their plates but they were too fast and my zoom is too poor. Be safe. Always assume drivers will do the absolute worst. Wear a helmet. End of my emotionally charged rant
Has anyone personally ever tried Bicicletta's personal bike shopping experience? In a month or two out, I'm going to buy a bicycle and I've taken an interest in this store because of their PBS.
What's the experience like? How helpful were they and did you have any parts changed?
Most people do this type of thing on the summer solstice and only go one way…
My rear Easton EA90 AX wheel started cracking at the spoke holes. Looking up some reviews of Google this seems like a known issue with the wheelset. I contacted the Easton office in Burnaby and they sent me a complete rear wheel for free. I was shocked as I expected a rim which I would have to get laced to the hub myself. Super happy with their customer service and their advertised lifetime guarantee is for real.
Hi all,
My mom recently retired at the age of 68 and I want to help her find a group to ride with around Vancouver (she lives downtown). For context, she’s very fit and active and regularly rides 25-50km. She has a gravel bike and enjoys riding on mellow gravel as well. Are there any group that are within her age bracket that meet regularly for rides? She’s not the fastest, but she’s definitely not slow and I think would do great in a casual pace/coffee ride type group. She doesn’t ride with clips, so a group that’s okay with flat pedals is also a must. I would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks all!
