Dropper Post Lever “kit”

I want to get this dropper post for my wife’s 2019 Trek Roscoe 6.

Race Face Turbine Dropper Post 31.6 / 100mm travel

She’s 5ft tall so I think this will be the best thing for her comfort. I can’t seem to find a “kit” that has everything I need. I’m guessing I just have to buy a clamp, lever, and cable kit separately. Can someone make a recommendation on what to get with this dropper? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

27.5 vs 29er

I know this conversation is beaten to death from what I can tell, but just asking for personal preferences/experiences. I’m new to MTB, and am primarily interested in XC. The bike I’m looking at buying is 27.5, and I’m worried I’ll regret that on the climbs. What do you think?

Passover in Timna park

We are trying to make it a tradition, second year in a row that we are going for a get away in the desert around this time of the year. This time the weather was amazing, the trail was fire and company was fun. If you never been to Timna Park near Eilat, you should definitely add it to your bucket list.

I bought this bike, is it a good deal?

https://ibb.co/L5WrRy1

There’s a picture of the bike

It’s a carbon nomad 27.5 carbon wheels, I think it’s a 2018 that I got for 650 bucks Needs a dropper and some good service on gears and brakes also thinking about painting it bc it seems like it was on the sun for a long time. What do you guys think it’s worth?

Why do you twist in the air?

It looks cool and I always assumed it was for style. It appears to help with direction upon landing, sometimes. But I also see racers do it in the air on a straightaway, which I would think would lose speed.

(Just curious, I'm a beginner and don't really jump let alone do this kind of move yet.)

Help me corner please

Hi I’ve been working on bike body separation, posture, body rotation and foot work and pressure. This is a flat 180 turn.

My question- do you develop the positions eg body rotation through the corner? As in just a little rotated at the start and then medium in the middle and fully at the end? Or ride through the corner with the same rotated posture throughout unless the curve of the corner changes?

How about bike body separation- should that be max at start and then the same the whole way through? And foot position?

It seems to me that I should be developing my rotation throughout the corner but keep a steady bike body separation through the corner which seems a bit of a conflict as the two feed of each other especially at the feet. I’m keeping my feet level with the horizon- dropping outside foot as I lean the bike which would help build rotation if I also built lean through the turn. But that seems wrong as I want to get those side knobs biting from the start.

I do feel I’m getting somewhere as I’m finally starting to hear the grip noise!

Another thing is consistency. After I do the flat 180 drill 20 times I feel I can ride it pretty nice. If I come back another day though I’m all the way back at square one until another 20 goes.

Thanks very much for answers or any other and comments!

New Rider - Setup Suspension help

Hello, I'm a new rider (total beginner) and just bought an used bike (A Norco Range C1 2018, 29") This is an Enduro bike and i know this bike will be overkill since i'm a new rider. (at least for now for sure)

I need to setup my suspension (SAG) and i'm a little lost. I know i will have to tweak the suspension to adjust to my preference, but for now i need a good starting point.

At first i will ride it on easy trails (will not make jumps or drop for now or maybe small ones)

Which SAG do i need? considering:

-Bike Frame Travel is : 150mm.

  • Front Fork: Fox Factory Float 36 160mm

  • Rear Shock: Fox DHX2 (Coil). (not original shock, it was a Fox Factory Float X2)

From the norco manual, they recommand a rear suspension SAG between 27% and 33% but its from the oem fox factory float X2.

From FOX Help center: Fox recommand a SAG of +/- 30% for the DHX2.

From FOX Help center, Fox recommand a SAG between 15% to 20% for the front Fork,

So my questions:

  1. Is Bike Travel = Rear Shock Travel? It is the same?

  2. Since my bike travel is 150mm, the fact the rear shock was replaced by a DHX2, do it change the bike Travel/Sag?

  3. Norco recommand a read suspension SAG 27 to 33% and Fox recommand a SAG of +/- 30% for the DHX2 so setting my DHX2 to 30% will be the good starting point?

  4. Fox recommand front fork SAG 15 to 20%, since i will ride soft trail, i suppose 20% sag will be the good starting point?

  5. Is it better to adjust front sag before rear sag? or it do not matter?

I'm sorry, this may be stupid questions, but i'm beginner and i'm a bit lost. I prefer asking before doing anything.

Ps: Sorry for my bad english.

thanks!

brake adapter

I bought deore m6120 last year, fits perfectly to the frame, bought a new frame this year and noticed that the mounts are different, the new one uses international standard and the old frame uses post mount. Wanted to ask if they do come with adapters because I can't find it in the box, not sure if i misplaced it.

First dual suspension bike

I'm looking to get my first dual suspension bike as a way to get back into riding and replacing my old gt avalanche. I'm looking at the Trex fuel ex5 and the giant trance. I will need a small frame, should I look at the 27.5 or 29 version? Looking to start at the 2k price point. I will be riding flowing single track in Georgia. Won't be jumping or speeding downhill anytime soon if ever.

I can't decide on either a yt capra core 3 or a specialized stumpy evo comp alloy

I've rented a stump jumper evo before and loved it, but I'm also interested in the capra, I'm looking to use it on mainly local trails and sometimes at a bike park. This would also me my first full sus (up grading from a 2008 gt avalanche), my budget is about $3500. I was also wondering if anyone was willing to share any of their experiences with yt (I'm also welcome to other suggestions for similar bikes)

140mm on a 2022 Marin Rift Zone 2

I've had my Rift Zone for a year and thinking of upgrading from the stock 130mm Recon Silver RL 29 fork.

Wondering if anyone has upgraded to a 140mm fork for their Rift Zone? If so, did the ride characteristics change much?

Rack recommendations

Have been looking at platform style hitch racks and so far the best I've found is the rocky mounts guide rail. Looks like it will do everything I need with the ability to add on a 3rd bike if necessary. But are they seriously worth $1799 nzd? It's almost the price of a half decent bike! Or have I missed any others that are similar to this one? https://rockymounts.nz/products/guiderail

Rockshox Domaine Motion Control improvements? It’s on a Trek Rail 7

So I got a ebike. And it’s rad, zero fuck given. I got what was available locally used- Trek Rail 7 from the LBS demo fleet. It’s got some miles on it, needed a new chain, cassette and shifter cable.

Overall, it’s one of the funnest and best handling bikes I’ve ever been on. Only thing I’m not loving is the suspension. While I can happily ride it as is, I do like to tinker.

I had a Fox DPX2 on a shelf that fits just fine. It’s 65mm so it bumps up the rear end to 165-170mm travel. No clearance issues. I dropped the $43 on a 180mm air shaft for the front end. I like the geo and handling of the bike in this setup. I’m having trouble getting the MoCo anywhere in the zone I’d like.

Basically compression is too open- no support. Adding clicks makes it harsh and spiky. Rebound is really slow, even with full open clicks. Thicker oil would make compression better, rebound worse. Thinner oil and maybe add some clicks of compression? Would be biased to fixing rebound. Can compensate compression with tokens and excess oil in the lowers.

Anyone good with the MoCo? It’s new to me. Easy to service, hard to get right…

And no, I’m not looking to just do a damper upgrade. At least not at this time.

Thanks.

Help me help a very green friend who's struggling

I have a very green friend. I've been biking for 30 years. I have a hard time relating to the things he finds difficult because I was figuring those things out when I was 8. He does very leisurely rides because that's all the stamina and strength he has. He's very uncomfortable and over stressed because of what I'm about to explain so he's very limited on what he can do so he can't seem to advance.

His posture is absolutely horrible and won't take any of my advice because it seems he's unable to even hold himself up properly. He always has his seat too low and does not keep his back straight. Very hunched over and slouchy. Which causes him to crane his neck upwards because he's angling his upper back forwards rather than upwards. He holds his handlebars with an extreme angle at his wrists and uses his fingers rather than his palms to bear his weight (I gave him some padded gloves). He keeps his toes pointed outwards on his pedals which puts his knees at an odd angle, and he complains about knee pain (He normally walks with his feet very much splayed out to begin with). He locks his elbows out and after I suggested he keeps a slight bend at his elbows, he tells me he can't bend his elbows because that would be like "holding a plank for 2 hours".

That last statement shocked me because I can't even relate to that. He doesn't even have enough core strength or arm strength to hold himself up. So, he locks his arms into place to he doesn't have hold himself up. I didn't have any advice for that. I was just kinda stunned and didn't say anything because I didn't want to embarrass him.

Because of all this he's VERY uncomfortable throughout the entire ride. And doesn't seem to get that he needs to change his posture. But it also seems like he's unable to even hold the "correct posture". Whenever I suggest he change his posture he just tells me the change is even more uncomfortable than his "normal" posture. It seems like he's funneling himself into every bad physically mechanical position because it's "more comfortable" for him.

He's been going at this for about 4 years now. With very little advancement. He's only in his early 30's.

He's been doing yoga, but it doesn't seem to help him one bit.

Help me help my friend.

Roscoe 8 or Jeffsy/Izzo

Relatively new to the sport, I’ve ridden a couple bike parks on rental bikes and got hooked.

Finally have enough for a decent set of wheels (about $2k) and trying to decide hardtail or full squish. I think I’ve narrowed it down to a Trek Roscoe 8 for a hardtail or either a Jeffsy or Izzo if I go full suspension.

Where I live has some trails but is relatively flat. There is a bike park a couple hours away though that I would be hitting up all the time. Any input from the community would be appreciated.

Switching from Diamond DVO to a coil Marzocchi or Ohlins?

I have a 2020 Jeffsey Base (27.5 wheels) with an upgraded Diamond DVO fork (overforked to 170). At this point, the bike is capable of pretty much anything, and it thrives in chunky desert riding and bike parks alike.

I just can't really stand the finickiness of the Diamond. I find getting the right mix between the OTT and low-speed compression and high-speed compression to be pretty complicated. When dialed though, it's pure butter.

I've been toying with the idea of replacing it with a spring fork for some time now, and my LBS just recommended two forks, the Marzocchi Bomber Z1 and the Ohlins RXF36 M.2.

The mechanic said he used to run DVO and switched to the Marzochi and then the Ohlins for convenience.

Thoughts on making this switch? The fork is about due for another rebuild and I'm thinking of buying something new instead.

Advice choosing a hardtail.

I'm coming from a road bike background and I'm looking for a first mountain bike. I'm looking to do trail riding at the ski mountains and forests in my area during the summer. I don't actually know if I want a hardtail or full suspension, but after looking on the used market for a bit I've found these two which are in my budget and seem like good options. I'm going to go try them out, but I'd like to hear some input. Both are 29ers. White one is a 2021 Giant Talon. Blue is a 2013 Kona Honzo, steel.

https://preview.redd.it/438pvuym4ixc1.jpg?width=1874&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=835f93796ea2aa82762b9b5dd0cc3795483e8258

Kona: $1100 CAD. Rockshox revelation 130 mm fork, Deore 9 speed shifter and derailleur, KS LEV dropper post, avid elixir 1 brakes, chain guide. New parts: brakepads, cassette, chain, bottom bracket. Needs: new grips, proper pedals, possibly new saddle.

Giant: $950 CAD. Fox Factory 32 fork, shimano zee shifter, fox transfer dorpper. New parts: SLX derailleur + crankset, XT bottom bracket. Doesn't seem to need much in the way of additions.

Thanks!

Bike similar to a Trek Rail 9

Hey all,

So I'm relatively new to downhill biking and I'm in the market for my first bike. After trying out several models, the Trek Rail 9 stood out as the clear winner for me. Its performance was exceptional, and I loved the feel of it. Now, I'm on the hunt for a bike with similar specifications and riding experience, but I don't want an E-Bike. Any recommendations?

I specifically want to do alot of enduro riding. I also go through the jump park alot as well. Currently I'm in tasmania Australia and there are a tonne of all type of trails here. My budget is about 3000-4000 AUD.
