Welcome to Milwaukee's bike subreddit! From the urban commuters to the beach cruisers, everyone and their bike is welcome here for newbie advice, pro events, and everything in between!
Bike maps and bike shops are listed in the wiki.
Oak Leaf Trail system map - PDF - non-interactive, shows all lines and adjacent parks.
Oak Leaf Trail system map - interactive - Interactive browser-based map of the trail system and parks.
City of Milwaukee's Low-stress Bike Route Finder is the City's/DPW's interactive bike map, which gives color-codes roads by comfort level
CyclOSM.org - OpenStreetMap-based bike map, which anyone can edit. Shows road lanes, separated trails, and signed bike routes.
-area/extent included in URL
-fluid zoom
-bike lanes & trals are slightly easier to see
-has a huge key/legend
-many many (maybe too many) symbols and types of lines, many are very similar shapes & colors
-bike racks/parking are a different shade of blue, and are circles
OpenCycleMap.org - Renders the OSM data slightly differently. Bike routes are easier to read, while bike lanes on roads are more difficult to read.
-fixed URL in the address bar, so you cannot share a link to a specific map area/extent (but has a permalink at the bottom)
-fixed zoom levels, not fluid like GMaps, etc
-emphasizes signed bike routes whether or not they have bike lanes on the road or are off-street trails
-and gives different colors to local, regional, and inter/national bike routes
-and also de-emphasizes bike lanes and trails (lighter line weight: harder to see/notice)
-doesn't render bike boulevards/greenways/designated shared streets (but cyclosm does)
-bike racks are blue squares
-small map key/legend

Any group rides that aren't spandex pelotons? Just looking for some like minded people to ride bikes with.
My kind of ride is Oak Leaf from Estabrook to Seven Bridges taking as much single track as possible, stopping to drink a beer, and turning around. If that sounds like how you like to ride bikes feel free to DM me!
If yes, how do you like riding around Milwaukee? I don't have one, but would like to get a front cargo bike to haul kids, 1 and 4—Urban Arrow or Riese & Müller Packster.
There are two maps out there that have been created my Milwaukee urbanists. And both have additional functionality provided by their legends.
Map 1 - Shows a lot of the Milwaukee Metro’s current and upcoming bike infrastructure: https://felt.com/map/Current-and-Future-Bike-Infrastructure-WPzJ7eg4RWKvIMPuRBz9CwD?loc=43.152,-87.851,7.75z
Map 2 - Is more focused on Milwaukee County and using the legend to show construction by year: https://felt.com/map/MKE-PBL-and-Bike-Projects-Over-Time-iE02R0sGSCykzgv89ACVcwC?loc=43.04276,-87.94195,12.47z
Anybody have any insight as to the reality of the proposed extensions and when? I see this year it's being extended east to zablocki park which is awesome! Their stated goal is to make it to the oak leaf at the Lakeshore. That would be amazing, but seems like a pipe dream givent he property and interstates between.
This street is plagued with speeding drivers coming off 145 and I drive thru here every day but it just is not safe for bikes. Is there anyway to get around by bike or any plans to implement protected bike lanes? This area just feels neglected and unsafe
My family are looking to move back to Wisconsin from Denver and are looking at the Milwaukee area.
My wife and I are pretty big cyclists. Here in Denver we are fortunate to have great paths and safe roads. My wife primarily enjoys paths while like both a path and road.
We are thinking about the Sussex, hartland, areas or cedarburg. How is the riding in those areas? Is the road riding fairly safe? What about paths?
Thanks
I'm purchasing a new bike for this coming year. I saw some new protected bike lanes going in. Is there a safe bike route from the Mount Mary campus to downtown?
Setting a goal this year to ride my bike to Madison. What’s a good bike friendly route? What’s the best way to transport my bike back via public transport?
I’ll be in MKE for three days at the end of March and I’d love to check it out by cargo bike. Any recommendations on places to go / not go?
I’ve been commuting to Chicago by train once a week for the past month and would like to start taking my bike to the station once the days get a bit longer. I haven’t seen any bike racks nearby, though. Does anyone do this regularly and know the nearest ones where it would be safe to lock it up for the day?
Edit: Thanks for everyone’s replies! I’ve always arrived at the station in the dark and hadn’t seen the bike racks on the west side.
Truck tried it and I dodged the cloud of smoke. I knew it was going to happen because their tailpipe was about a foot in diameter and all Americans are the same and want to run me over because I’m on a bike. What would you do in this situation? I just told him off and continued my ride home
Here are three I've found useful:
What do you use for navigation, route planning, weather, events, or specific type of rides (bike packing, leisure, trail, etc).
I'm looking at getting a bike fit done and wheel and sprocket seems to have the best offering based on their website. Has anyone done a fitting with them before?
Which trails and roads are bikeable? Which are not? /r/chibike is doing this, so naturally I wondered if we could benefit too. This is something I'd rather not have to query after every storm, but I'd like to see y'all take the initiative and share out. Or would it be good to just sticky a thread for each major storm?

Hi everyone! My wife and I are planning a little bike tour this summer. Chicago to Milwaukee and then the ferry to Muskegon, and then south back to Chicago. I found info on taking the Lake Express Ferry but we are curious about how it works. Is there a bike rack where you can leave your bicycle? Do you need to lock it (Where would anybody that tries to steal it go?). Is it pretty easy and convenient, etc.? Any and all experience and advice is appreciated. Thanks
how the hell does your bike not tip over while riding with those massive balls? Goddamn
TLDR: a driver hit me on my bike. His fault. Any lawyers in Milwaukee who specialize in fighting for cyclists/pedestrians?
Had a guy blow through his stop sign and he nailed me on my bike. He was charged simply with failure to yield. Since this incident today, I have obtained video footage to substantiate this. I have broken bones in my neck, plus injuries to my chest, back, and shoulders which will prevent me from working here for a bit. I know in other cities there are lawyers who specialize in the concerns of cyclists. Any good ones in Milwaukee?
Does anyone have a suggestion for a shoe cover that works well in temps 30 and under? I have some of the neoprene ones and my feet still get super cold. The only thing that has worked for me is to put on flat pedals and wear boots with wool socks.
How big of an issue is this? I see it often while driving but not as often when I am biking. Does parking enforcement do its job?
Curb-protected bike lanes on Walnut westbound and eastbound between 4th/Vel Phillips and 12th/FDL!
Grade-separated off-street cycle paths on Walnut westbound and eastbound between 12th/FDL and 20th!
N 6th has also gotten curb-protected bike lanes northbound and southbound between Walnut and Brown! I'm nervous that these appear to be wide enough for cars/trucks to be driven into them, but we'll see how it all shakes out... Reminder that 6th has had basic striped bike lanes between McKinley and Halyard/North Ave - these are still in place.
6th and Walnut is also the city's first fully protected intersection!
Happy bike holiday new year!

If you’re a Milwaukee resident, please contact your county supervisor and ask them to make this important ped/bike connection happen. Find your country supervisor here:
https://www.findyourcountysupervisor.com/search.aspx
and
Stole this from a FB group; let our voices be heard about making it happen and how important it will be for people on bikes and on foot.
Which is understandable - they think it'll prevent shoplifting - but is also pretty bullshitty for anyone doing grocery shopping by bike. A sign on the floor of the entryway says backpacks need to be checked at the customer service desk. I didn't, and nobody asked me to, but be aware this could happen to you (or me next time).
Also, be aware, there was A LOT of broken glass on the rail trail behind the store last week and still this week, and the spur path that leads to the Cermak bike racks. Use this to report trails and bike lanes full of glass, debris, car parts, etc. https://city.milwaukee.gov/ucc/action
Is anyone here going to the Bike Lane Uprising event being held at Amorphic Beer in Riverwest this Thursday? They ask you to register but I unfortunately might not be able to get there in time. Here's a link to the page to register with more info! Maybe something you guys may not have heard of yet.
