Looking for a new bike seat for very specific pain issues, and I need a variety to try/touch. What Ottawa store has the best inventory/range of different seats?
Is it open yet? I thought the construction is until 2025 but Google Map today suddenly showed me it as an option.
I'm looking to buy a new endurance road bike preferably with 105 di2 components, not too fussy about the make. The local shops I've been to tell me that they're out of stock for the next year or so. I'd like to buy something sooner, does anybody know of a store in town that would have such a bike in stock? I could order one online of course but I'd be worried about how I would fit the bike.
Quick question, are there any thoughts on folding locks such as the Foldylock Compact? I don't know what tools people are using for stealing so it makes it a bit tough to know how durable they'd be. I have a Kryptonite U-Lock for one bike but I'd love the flexibility of a folding lock as I find the U-Lock sometimes a real pita.
From City Of Ottawa email newsletter:
Upcoming closure to north end of Chief William Commanda Bridge
The City of Gatineau has advised of upcoming construction work to improve the intersection of the NCC Voyageurs Pathway and the Chief William Commanda Bridge pathway, affecting users' access to and departure from the bridge at the north end of the multi-use pathway.
From Tuesday, May 14 until Friday, May 17, the north end of the Chief William Commanda Bridge on the Gatineau side of the Ottawa River will be temporarily closed for construction. The City of Gatineau will place barriers on the North end of the bridge pathway, so there will be no access for users to the bridge wishing to enter from the Gatineau side or exit from the Ottawa side. The bridge entrance on the Ottawa side (south end) will remain open during construction, however users will need to turn around at the north end and return to the Ottawa side via the south bridge. Signage will be installed on both sides of the bridge, indicating that the north end of the bridge is closed, and there will be no access to the Voyageurs Pathway.
This construction work will see modifications and enhancements to the transition from the Voyageurs Pathway to the bridge pathway, designed to improve ease of use.
Northern access will be reinstated on Saturday, May 18.
Open NCC parkways are finally here! Join the parade of skateboarders, cyclists, walkers, rollers and kids heading down QED to City Hall. Weather is looking good. https://x.com/ParkwaysPeople/status/1788579572629303616
So, some friends have joined my adventure in road cycling, but we have been wondering if there are ACTUAL beginner-friendly cycling clubs that don't CHILL at 25km/h average when doing a Gat-Loop. Any recommendations?
Google maps suggests prince of wales drive for me but i wanted to know if there was a bike safe alternative
My bike needs a general check up, and I also may need my wheels trued. Any recommendations for a reliable and fair priced shop in ottawa?
Looking for something waterproof and breathable for cycling. Bonus if it’s lightweight and packable. Any suggestions for brands?
Rule #9 If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work.
Don't take The Rules Too seriously though.
Hi everyone!
I have a decent amount of experience with the Multi-Use Pathways that run along the river and the canal, as well as the one that runs along the Trillium train line, but what I haven't found yet is a way to get from Bayshore/Pinecrest area (roughly) to Hunt Club. Right now (aside from all the construction) I can plan for protected bike lanes west-east from Bayshore to the Rideau Canal, then north-south to Hunt Club, and east-west along Hunt Club, but I don't know how to stay off the roads in the west end.
Is there a protected bike lane I could be taking? I'm not adverse to a significantly less direct route in the interests of not ending up on the hood of someone's car.
Schedule is up here for May 4 - September 22.
Essentially the same as 2023, with added shuttle service from 9:30am to 2pm on weekdays where personal vehicles aren't allowed in the park.
Is the bike path below Parliament buildings (along the river) still closed?
I am guessing yes, as Google Maps is routing me to the Quebec side then back across the Alexandra bridge (to get to the Byward market from Westboro).
Thanks
experience with their bikes? My mom has recently had knee replacement surgery and she always loved cycling and hoping to be able to cycle again this summer. I suggested that she gets an ebike and I want her to get a good quality bike.
Was trying to pick out a lube yesterday and ended up buying some dry lube after hearing about how wet lube picks up much more grime than dry lube, especially when it's dry. The only downside to dry that I've seen is you just apply it much more often that wet, especially when it's humid/rains. I just wanna know what you guys use as lube especially during this transitional season where one day is dry as the Sahara and the next wet as the Amazon. I've also seen people talking about wax so that could also be an option...
Does anyone know the status of the Osgoode link pathway between Hunt Club and Earl Armstrong? Still closed for LRT construction? If so, do we know when it will open?
After training all winter, I’m registered for the 70k which will be my first ever cycling event!
Any advice for a slightly nervous but excited first-timer?
Fun little ride around the Greenbelt!
I am looking to get from Lincoln Fields to Mooney’s Bay next week. I was going to take the Ottawa River Pathway and Trillium Pathway. I haven’t used either so far this year and they appear to be pretty heavily under construction in some areas from satellite. Are they open and passable or should I change my route?
Comment if it yours!
Does anyone know if BikeDump still sells those "one less car" stickers ?
I think they're cool and want to get some.
These one !

I need someone to weld/braze some rack mounts on to a chromo fork. Know someone?
What are some recommended routes to do this? I’ve biked POW in the past but only the portion past the Rideau locks. Is POW safe all the way from Nepean woods to herridge?
Seeing as the NCC announced their summer schedule for weekend Bike days (Kichi Zibi/ SJAM, Sir George Etienne, and QE Driveway), any predictions for Gatineau Parkway?
I’m just hoping that cars are restricted on both Saturday/ Sunday up until 12pm and 1-2 weekday evenings of no cars will be on the list.
I ride the greenboro pathway everyday almost to get to work in the morning. Usually I get onto it around 7-7:30. It’s a decent path other than the many street crossings but my real huge problem with it is all the dogs and their stupid owners. Everyday I have to deal with at least 3 dogs running at me all the way from the fields they were running loose on with their owners.
It’s really annoying and I’m not a big fan of dogs but I am a 6 foot tall 210 pound guy so I just stop and confront the owners. It’s always the same crap. There’s this old man who has 3 dogs and one of them is a bigger dog and she goes crazy when she sees my bike, when I confronted the owner he told me he’s sorry it’s a big issue she has because she got attacked by peopled on bikes years ago and now he’s trying to train her to be chill with it. He says she is so friendly and will never hurt a fly lol. It’s so annoying ugh excuse my mini rant here but anyone else ride this path often as well?
Called Via Rail customer service today. Bike friendly trains with racks for normal sized, assembled bikes could be coming this summer!
