Hi, My uncle was an avid cyclist. He passed away in an accident and I received his bicycle. It was a fixed gear Holland bike from San Diego. I’m not a cyclist, but I know this bike was tricked out with customizations just for him. It was stolen out of my garage.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Is there a place where stolen bikes go to be sold? Where can I look?
I already filed a police report.
My heart is broken.

Travis County is currently developing a road safety action plan and would like your input. For more information, go to www.tctxsafestreets4all.com. Please forward this information on to others in our Travis County community you think would be interested.
Travis County, working with our partner cities and agencies, is developing the Travis County Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan (SAP) to eliminate or significantly reduce fatalities and serious injuries on all roads for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, public transportation users, and motorists.
Travis County will be working over the next several months to develop the safety plan through analyzing crash data, including crash locations, frequency, severity, and probable causes. We will also evaluate public input, develop potential solutions, and address equity concerns. Public input will play a key role in the development of the SAP. We need to hear from you! Please use the links below to take our survey and leave comments on an interactive map.

My old ones are getting pretty run down and I’m right between two sizes and want to try turn on before buying. What local store has the best selection? Also is this the time of year last year’s models go on sale?
Like the title says I am looking to buy a CX or gravel bike. Looking for something from 54-60cm. If you or someone you know within around 2 hours of Austin is trying to sell let me know! I didn't see anything against making a post like this in the rules, so sorry if I accidentally broke a rule.
Looking to go out for a 3-4 day trip this weekend. Has anyone bikepacked around the LCRA parks? Or even the enchanted rock/ pedernales/ blanco state parks area?
Really anything bikepacking in our area. Trying to piece together a route that avoids high car traffic. If you have a ridewithgps route feel free to drop it.
Even something meandering around Fredericksburg and finding private campgrounds. Really open to any ideas.
I’ve been working on an app called Pointz that’s all about helping riders find safer, low-stress routes to feel confident and comfy on the roads. Right now, it has emergency roadside assistance, plus a color-coded road safety map (from red to dark green for safety ratings), a slider to help choose the optimal balance of safety vs. speed, and options for specific preferences, like avoiding hills, selecting routes for different bike types, avoiding multi-use paths, and more. It has a bunch of other things like a way to record your ride (like Strava), GPX exporting, and even crowdsourcing (like Waze). But I'm curious—what features would you all actually use? Especially folks who are new/intermediate to riding in cities and suburbs. Would love to hear your thoughts
I am interested in a high end road bike for an "old" man who desires comfort. I was considering a 2024 Roubaix SL-8 or Giant Defy Pro 1 BUT electronic shifting is the hang up. (I have a SRAM AXS system on my gravel bike and have been stuck as have some biking friends).
I would like:
Compliance (62 yrs old and 5500 mi/yr, some really long rides) Carbon Fiber Frame
Pneumatic disk brakes
Able to put 35-38mm tubeless tires on the bike
Carbon wheels (I could update myself)
Ultegra mech shifting (or equivalent)
34/50 (to 52) and 11 x 32 cassette
What model / year should I look for?
Thanks /BWET
I got tagged by a car awhile back and it slightly tweaked the frame of my Salsa Fargo. No dents or creases and you really can’t tell its bent until you try to put the rear wheel in. Any recommendations for someone who can help straighten a steel frame?

Hello,
There are dozens of miles of trails of the BCGB that do not appear on any maps that can be accessed through an unmarked trail head by parking on Travis Country Circle.
These are amongst the greatest trails in the Austin area.
I'm telling you this because RICH elitists have fought for a long time to keep these trails under wraps, yet they are public trails and the options for exploration are numerous.
It used to be a great road out in the “country” to get some miles in, but the trash/gravel is insane now. I dropped a note to a couple of county commissioners last week, to make them aware and see if they'll do anything about it.
I know the trail has been effed up for years, but I can't find any info on what exactly is being constructed/improved and what the timeline is. Years ago, this was my daily commute to get from ACC to Pleasant Valley to South Austin. I've ridden it since but it sucks having to go off-trail and scramble around barriers. What is the city's plan for this? And is there some special secret way to get from Montopolis to Pleasant Valley through the park?
Can anyone recommend any good taco spots in Manor while I’m out there? Planning on a potential century ride and we all know nothing healthier for the body and soul like some good tacos. TIA. Happy trails.
🙃
I frequently ride the SWCT and have heard that there are new and safe routes allowing you to ultimately connect to the Veloway in south Austin. Can somebody help me determine how that route looks?
Govalle park (south end of SWCT) connects easily enough to Town Lake. But what I struggle with is connecting from Town Lake to the Veloway.
The last bit of info is that I typically ride road so paved is preferred to gravel. But I am open to gravel connection if necessary.
They have painted a new two-way bike lane on Hillside Terrace on the north side for the entire length of the street. They have also painted parking spaces outside of the bike lanes and have installed those armadillo looking barriers but no bollards yet. I drove down the street the first day it was all painted and saw a group of sour faced residents standing in the street presumably talking about it. Now at least a few of those residents keeps parking in the lane.
Does anyone know of bollards will be installed so that these karens can quit parking there? I’m sure they’ll still find a way. I see they’ve already been reported to 311. Pretty sad that their desire to park 6’ closer to their house outweighs the use of this lane by kids commuting to and from our local schools (why the lanes were built). This was an extremely wide street that cars use to fly down, now it will be narrower and should force the cars to slow considerably which I would think would please the residents.
Traveling east/west between Guadalupe and Lamar is a tricky proposition, between 34th to the south and 46th streets to the north - 12 blocks worth of barrier, if you consider 38th street a non-viable option, as I do. My one hack is to ride through the trail that runs along the pond system and through the Central Market center's parking lot (or vice versa). That isn't a great solution, as the path is obviously geared towards pedestrian traffic, and getting through the gap between that trail and the Central Market parking lot is decidedly not bike friendly. Google Maps doesn't recognize it as a bikeable path, and I don't often encounter other cyclists using this path the way I do.
Zoomed out on Google Maps, it looks as if there's a route at about 41st street, but it seems to be separated by the fencing/barrier between CM and the hospital. I've been hesitant to ride through the hospital campus - the guard station at the Guadalupe entrance has long been defunct but still looks forbidding, and there's no obvious entrance/exit on the Lamar side. Is there a route through the hospital campus I don't know about?
Curious to learn what others know and think about this. It's a mile-long east/west barrier that I've never heard anyone complain about (in my limited bike community experience). I'm curious about who owns the corridor with the pond/pathway system just north of 38th street, and if there's been any talk or efforts to open up a pathway through this area.
There used to be quite a number of tall bikes in ATX but I don't see them around much anymore. I don't own one, but I'm interested in riding one this week, for a group bike ride that I participate in.
If you have a tall bike that you're willing to loan/rent me, please drop me a DM. Thanks and thanks.
I'm seeing this more since they redesigned this road. It's clear where vehicles can park but somehow they manage to park in the bike lane still. I submitted a request to Austin 311 to see if they can paint that bike lane and add signage.
