Downtown to St Charles/Katy Trail

Hello STL cyclists!

I‘d deeply appreciate some advice on the best ways to get from the downtown Amtrak station (by Clark and 14th) to the Katy Trail in St Charles. Coming from Chicago so completely unfamiliar with STL biking infrastructure, and we know that Google bike directions aren’t always great. Any good side street routes would be preferred, but I can put up with busier streets long as there’s some kind of lane or decent shoulder for bikes. Thanks so much for any help!

Best shops in the city?

Just moved back to the city. Near forest park. Had a great ma and pa bike shop up in chicago where I bought all my parts and gear. Looking for somewhere to get economy tires tubes and other parts. Big shark seems expensive and so does maplewood. Anyone got any tips? Thanks!

Video ideas

Hey there. I made a few videos earlier this year after visiting St. Louis and I'd like to make some more while I'm here again. I really enjoy highlighting the greenways. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

CWE to Brentwood: route recommendations?

Hi all, relatively new to the city and would love any recommendations for biking safely from the CWE to brentwood (target/trader Joe’s area). I’ve been inspired to bike more, drive less but curious how people get around some of the larger roads like Big Bend Blvd. Google maps also doesn’t have a bike route for it yet.

Any advice appreciated. Thank you!

Share the Greenways PSAs

More and more people are using the greenways (yay!) and we've been working on some public service announcements so people know the basics before they go. Partnered with St. Louis ArtWorks' teen apprentices for some quick videos, made a Schoolhouse-Rock-style music video and some Lego people are spreading the word, too. Please check it out and share with others!

Saint Louis to Grafton Century

I'm considering doing a century ride this spring and am considering taking the Madison County Transit Confluence Trail over to Grafton and back. I've never ridden along the trail. Is it a paved and separate trail the entire way (not a part of the road/highway)? Is there much elevation on the ride to Grafton? How windy is it?

Edit: With further research it looks like there are stretches of gravel path. Are they long stretches of gravel path? Do they compare to riding along the Katy trail? Would I be okay with 700c x 28mm tires for the ride?

Description of the Ride the Rivers route/cue sheet?

I know the actual event isn’t happening this year, but I am a recreational cyclist wanting to do a solo century in the STL area and this route seems quite appealing. Does anyone have a good description of the route/ which ferries it uses?

Where can I give my gravel bike a workout?

Have already done a metric century on the Katy along with the gravel portion of the riverfront MCT. Anything else that you would recommend that is both scenic and fun to ride in on?

Are there stocked vending machines or water fountains that are turned on at Babler?

I planning a long ride and want to know if I am going to be able to fill a water bottle with something there. All fountains seem to still be turned off and I have had bad luck finding stocked vending machines.

Route suggestions 40-60miles

Hey everyone

Just moved out here and I’m trying to find a good weekend ride that leads to some nice long roads? Preferably towards open / unpopulated areas with some nice roads. Looking to do anything between 40-60miles starting from tower grove south.

Would appreciate any tips! Thanks

Grafton loop from STL city?

Was doing some research on possible bike rides in the STL area and Google Maps pointed out that I could go up to Grafton via St Charles/364/94 and then loop around through Alton and the Riverfront Trail to come back to the city, like 90ish miles? Is this viable?

Outside Vending Machines With Water or Sports Drinks - Grant’s trail or other hidden gems?

There used to be a vending machine at the lumber store off Grants trail but it appears it’s no longer there. With COVID does anyone know of any good refill spots other than gas stations?

Here’s one I’ve found...

Club Taco in Kirkwood has a to go ordering window.

Still gravel?

What specific sections of the MCT Trail System in Illinois are gravel and not paved? What about the Nickel Plate and Quercus Grove trails? Thanks.

I’m a Grad student at Purdue researching bicycle-automobile accidents

I’m looking for ways to reduce accidents between bicycles and automobiles, and a key part is to understand the experiences of those involved. I'm looking to talk to cyclists and you don’t need to have been in an accident. These interviews would be done over the phone taking approx 10 min. Please leave a comment or dm if you are interested.
