Fall Creek Trail recommendations

One of my annual personal biking goals is to go for a ride on the Fall Creek Trail. It’s probably been 8+ years since I road this trail so I know there’s newer sections on the south end and it now connects to Fort Harrison on the northeast. My ride will likely be 10-14 miles, can be out and back or from A to B with someone picking me up.

For those familiar with this trail what start and stop points would you recommend? Any any tips (businesses to checkout) or warnings (crappy intersections) for that particular section?

My interests: I love seeing trails/biking infrastructure, trailside businesses (restaurants and breweries), and urban neighborhoods. I’ve enjoyed the Pennsy, Nickel Plate (Fishers, Noblesville and Peru), Monon, Pleasant Run, Cultural Trail and several other Indy area trails in case that is helpful.

Bike route fishers

I'm looking for a bike route to do intervals uninterrupted and i live in the fishers area. The best that I've found is the huge shoulder on state road 19 north of Cicero but that's a 15 mile ride out and 15 miles back which isn't always doable. Does anyone know of a stretch of road where 20 minute intervals are possible.

Hilly 100 First Timer - Peloton Training Plan?

Long time peddler, first time racer here.

I committed to doing the Hilly 100 in 2024, it's been on my bucket list for a while.

I'll do some flat Monon Trail rides about 30 miles in length. I also have a Peloton that I'll get into from time to time. I did my first Triathlon Sprint this year so I'm not a stranger to fitness or anything.

I was hoping someone could recommend a training plan or some general training suggestions so that I can prepare for the Hilly 100 next year. Whether it's a tailored training program or just general suggestions like "if you can do xyx, then you will be fine doing the Hilly 100" or "make sure to be doing x number of Peloton rides/miles a week" or etc. Also, any suggestions like make sure to do this race or that race to prepare.

In general, my plan is for strength training twice a week for general fitness then devoting days for cardio and particularly cycling.

I also plan to do the Hancock Flat 50 in August with another friend as preparation, obviously not the best training preparation do the "Flat" vs "Hilly".

Anything will help!

Saturday Group Ride-Indianapolis

I am in Indianapolis for a couple of days and looking for a fast group ride on Saturday. Any suggestions? I don't mind having to drive some to get to the start.

I looked on Ciba and found this ride: https://ridewithgps.com/events/216073-apples-and-grapes-ride

Is this going to have a A and B group? Is it going to be pretty fast?

Thanks for the help!

Bikes Reported Stolen in Indianapolis, 2021

I grabbed the crime data for stolen bicycles reported in Marion County, 2021 and mapped them in ArcGIS Pro.

Address is reported to the nearest block (100 E Washington, 500 North Girls School Rd, etc) instead of the actual address of the person reporting the bike stolen. This only represents the total number of reported bikes stolen. I think it's safe to assume plenty of stolen bikes go unreported so I wouldn't use this to decide whether or the area I'm in is safe enough not to lock my bike up :)

Rides in the Geist area

I currently live and ride in Hancock county where traffic is rarely an issue and the roads are empty. I am considering moving to the Geist area -- near Fall Creek and Geist Rd -- and I'm wondering about my ability to ride there.

I have extensive, although dated, experience riding in traffic and I'm hoping there are some easy ways to get out of the immediate area and into some more undeveloped areas near Fortville or Pendleton. Strava heat maps tell me that people do ride around there but I'm hoping someone with more direct experience can fill me in where I could ride/where I should not ride and the better ways in and out of the area.

A Hoosier gone west.

I check in on this sub frequently and am always pleased to see the progress that IN has made in regards to cycling. I grew up in Fort Wayne during the 80's & 90"s, but haven't lived there for many, many years. I rode BMX as a kid but didn't get back into cycling until I was almost 30 yrs old. Ironically, the event that reinvigorated my interest in cycling was an even held in the Fort that I now feel is risky and one in which I would not participate, no offense to the organizers and participants. But after that event I moved west and began cycling in earnest. I now live in Redding, CA which is a city of around 100,000. There are more than 100 miles of single track, on public land, accessible from my front door, there are more than 40 miles of class 1 paved multi use trail, on public land, thousands of miles of gravel roads, on public land, low volume paved roads in all directions for as far as you can travel, and actual cycling infrastructure in the way of bike lanes, etc. in town. All that said, it is much, much, much hillier here than in IN, in fact, my typical ride has more ascent than the typical day on the Hilly Hundred. That said, I love to see the growth of cycling in IN, I dream of being able to come back an ride, and do participate in the Hilly. Until that day I encourage anyone looking for a cycling vacation to consider Redding, CA. I would take the time to show you around, there are four breweries in town that are accessible from the paved rail trail. There is also world class fly and sport fishing, world class backpacking and hiking, etc. If you are ever in the are please reach out me, we have year round cycling so in the winter when you are cold we are likely experiencing the mid 50's. Basically, I am just extending a hand to any Hoosiers who make it out west, the whole granfalloon and whatever. Take care, be well.

Practically New Wahoo Kickr + Specialized A1

My apologies if this type of post isn't allowed! I didn't see any rules in the sidebar, and I'm just trying to reach the right audience.

Last year I purchased a Wahoo Kickr Smart Trainer, floor mat, and a used Specialized A1 road bike. The bike was taken to Carmel Cyclery for a full tune up and new parts where needed.

Since then the bike and Kickr have gone almost entirely unused, I'm talking less than 5 miles in total. I'm looking to sell them both, hopefully together, at a significant discount to get them out of my house.

Would anyone in this community be interested in buying them? I can take pictures and will happily do a curbside delivery to the Indy metro area. I don't believe I have the receipts from Carmel Cyclery to give a full accounting of what was done, but if you look over the bike you'll be able to see the new condition.

Edit: Pictures

Best Indy west side rides?

I've lived in Broad Ripple since the beginning of time, but I recently moved to the Westside (30th and Lafayette). I'm really wanting to get to know this side of town better. What are the best places to ride on the west side?

Secure commuter parking in downtown Indy?

Is there anywhere secure downtown to park a bike during the day? I’ve lost my secure parking at work. Facilities won’t allow bikes inside and it doesn’t fit security’s theater agenda to allow me access to open one more door that my boss can open. #FuckManagement.

Safest route South Bend to Muncie?

I live in Mishawaka near South Bend. I mostly ride off-road trails in the area, but I’m interested in hitting up some other parts of Indiana, which means using roads quite a bit.

The Nickel Plate Trail and the Cardinal Greenway seem like good options to be on trails as much as possible, but that leaves me with figuring out the safest road route from here to Rochester and from somewhere on the Nickel Plate Trail to the start of the Cardinal Greenway in Converse.

Currently looking at doing a route like this for early April 2024 to get to / past Muncie for the solar eclipse, though I may want to test at least the South Bend to Rochester part much sooner than that.

Any experience / knowledge of the road routes would be much appreciated!
