I’m thinking of retiring my 10+ year old Kryptonite Combo Lock. The mount latch disintegrated today, and not all the dials dependably spin. Still, it has been a security beast for the last decade.
Are new Kryptonite combo U locks still high quality? I’ve never preferred a keyed lock due to inconvenience of carrying keys and stuck/sticky key mechanisms anyway.
I just worry that they don’t make em like they used to
Guy has this for sale but doesn’t know the size. Usually I can find catalogs on bikes but this one I cannot. It’s a decent drive away. Any words would be appreciated!
Univega Nuovo Sport I got fo free. It was dirty and moldy when I got it but some simple green and wd40 brought it back to life. I threw on a brooks and a new/more modern cockpit so the fit is now perfectly dialed. It’s a 27” wheeled bike and I just ordered some 1 3/8” rubber for it. I plan on doing some gravel and bopping around with it. Funny, it has no water bottle bosses. I guess a frame bag is in order…
Does anyone have any info on this model?
Has anybody had good success in sorting this out? I’m trying to color match some forks and was thinking my best bet would be taking the frame to an auto body shop and seeing if they can mix up some paint for me.
Hello,
I'm trying to convert my dad's old 26er MTB into a gravel bike. I am doing it for a school project that is a large part of my graduation requirement. The bike has a 1in threadless steerer tube, 26in tires. I am looking for relatively cheap parts, don't need to be carbon. I would really appreciate it if somebody could share their build with me, or give some advice on parts, as I don't know where to start on this. Thanks a lot.
Hello,
I am trying to convert my dad's old 26er MTB into a gravel bike for a school project that is a big part of my graduation requirement. I am having trouble figuring out where to start and finding the right parts. I am trying to stay within a relatively cheap price range, so carbon parts are not a requirement and are not what I am looking for. The bike has a 1-in threadless steerer tube and rim brakes. 26in wheels. I would really appreciate it if anyone who has done this conversion or something similar to it could give me advice on specific parts (brand and model would be great, mostly forks, drop bars, brakes, and shifters), or share their build with me. Thanks.
Snagged this for $50! Can't exactly tell if it's a '94 or a '96. It says chromoly seat tubing which leads me to believe '96.
Otherwise, I'm looking for recommendations on new handlebars & stem, seat post, and drive train (thinking 1x7).
Just more of a general awareness post.. the Sunrace SLM96 is sold as an indexed 9sp shifter with no option to convert it to friction shifting. I found it odd that its top cap was labeled M90 like the popular friction shifter that Riv and some others sell. I figured they'd be very similar internally and since the SLM96 is the cheapest of the "premium" Sunrace offerings, I gave the conversion a try and it worked out.
If you take the shifter off its mount and finesse the metal shield out, you can remove the black top cap which exposes two ball bearings - these are what is indexing the shifter. Remove them, reassemble, and it'll function perfectly as if it were in a dedicated friction mode.

If you struggle to get the snap/retaining ring back on, it was easier for me to loosely assemble the entire shifter with the clip in place (but not fully seated), and then install the shifter on the mount. Driving the allen bolt down put enough pressure to snap it into place.
Anyway, hope this helps someone on a limited budget.
I've shared it here before, just felt like showing it off again. If Thesseus had a bike it would be this one.
In the process of making it awesome I've fed it two wheelsets, two sets of brakes and brake levers, 2 sets of derailleurs, two pairs of tyres, 3 headsets and 2 stems. The handlebars, shifters, seatpost, and seat have stayed the same the entire time I've had it, with the shifters being the only reason this bike exists in the first place. (They were gifted to me and I felt like putting them to use.)
