Watching the finale of the Tour De France, I found myself very frustrated with Pauliena Rooijackers for refusing to work with Demi Vollering at all during their 50km+ break. She ended up losing the two-up sprint to the finish line, but if she had won it, her own refusal to pull would have cost her the overall victory at the Tour. As it is, she got herself 3rd instead of 2nd.
I understand that Vollering is the more powerful and accomplished rider, and would be expected to do the majority of the work, but not 100%. Rooijackers barely pulled at all. If she had done 25% of the work, or maybe even 10%, she would have had a chance at winning the Tour De France.
Her team was not a factor in the stage and she was free to pull. Puck Pieterse wasn’t even in the second group. She should have bet on herself winning up Alpe d’Huez and rode for the victory!
When a rider does a bike change they switch their bottles and computer. Is there a way to precalibrate that power meter or is it garbage data? When I race cx I use a watch to cover my pit bike but I’m only getting heart rate data so no calibration is required.
Cycling fans do not moon, menace or touch, or throw anything at professional riders. Fans don’t wave flags anywhere near struggling cyclists. Fans do not insert themselves into the narrative of the Tour de France or any other race. The people doing those things are self-important narcissists. They deserve punishment.
Racers are young boys/men. They do not surrender the right to physical boundaries or integrity by becoming some of the lowest paid professional athletes in the world. If you come in third on the solo time trial at the tour you don’t have to apologize or even explain why you did.
All you pretenders out there please grow up and leave these boys alone to race and stop putrefying the race with your ape-like antics when you see a camera.
Do I have to go and get a WR?

Hi r/professionalcycling,
We are scientists from the Ruhr-University in Bochum in Germany and currently researching how athletes from different sports and at different proficiency levels differ in their personalities.
We created a survey in which you are asked to pick your main sport and to then characterize the typical and the ideal athlete of this sport. When choosing your sport from our list of sports, "Road Bicycle Racing", "Cross-Country Cycling & Mountainbiking", "BMX", "Indoor Cycling" or "Track Cycling" is probably the best fit for you.
The survey takes about 20 minutes and as compensation, we will later inform you about the typical personality profile of your sport!
Link to survey: https://bochumpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aUXD2hchsEOZ2N7?S=12
Feel free to share the link with other people of your/other sports!
If you have questions, leave them in the comments and we will try to answer them.
Thank you so much in advance!
Did anyone else see Rigoberto Uran take something shortly before winning the stage today? Was he wiping his face? Looked like he put something in his mouth....could be wrong.....
I'm thinking about subscribing to a streaming service for cycling races.
I've looked at Fubo TV, cycling.tv or nbc sports gold
I'd really like to switch now and I have a few stages of the TdF on my DVR, so it would be nice if the services archives the footage. But that's not absolutely critical.
Anyone have these services, or have an informed opinion?
Thanks!
Hello guys! I'm going to watch the 13th stage of the tour this year in France. I was wondering if it's possible to get pictures/autographs of some of the more known GC riders, or are they flooded with media/people?
I just bought my first bike in a couple years, and I was reminded that cycling is a sport that I'm really interested in watching. Are there any professionals that anyone enjoys watching? Where do I begin watching pro cyclists?
