Ohio's Students for Concealed Carry
/r/OHGuns
I’m not a feminist by any means. Had grown up around hunting most of my life. Never shot a hand gun though. Had somethings happen. Have a trained guard dog “bite work”. I trained her myself. She’s 9 and amazing. Well, I now realize, Even though my girl is highly trained I can’t let her dog her job unless it’s absolutely necessary. I love her too much. Is all woman classes a thing? Or can I pay extra for one on one instruction? I’m in Union county. Just looking for reviews of classes offered in the area. I do have 2 children as well. They’re 13 and 9. Know about firearms too. In regards to safety, I just want to go about this the right way.
Permits are not required in Ohio now BUT are their benefits to having it?
Handguns best for beginners? I’m a frequent gym goer BUT I would prefer something small. Minimum recoil(I know rounds can play a part in this)
Locking it up in regard to bringing it with me? In the home? What’s the best options.
This was long winded but thank you for reading!
Edit; I would prefer one on one or woman’s classes for specific key points for ladies safety. Not because I hate me.
My firearm transferring just got rejected since most ffl stores around here cannot deal with I-94 paperworks. Are there any stores locally other than Cabela's/ Bass Pro Shop that are willing to do that with considerably reasonable transferring fee?
What are the laws if I want to store a backup handgun in my car? I always found the rules very confusing as I am allowed to carry it on my person when driving, but off person is so much more complex. Would storing it in my trunk with the magazine out be enough? Anyone have a link to the actual rules?
So I purchased 2 guns to be shipped to Cabelas. I went to pick them up and apparently I cant because I dont have a State license! I do have a Texas license WITH an Ohio address. I OWN a house in Ohio. I also presented them with a MILITARY ID and military ORDERS! Do I have to give up my Texas residency to purchase a gun in Ohio? Multiple people have told me that I dont need an Ohio locense if I have military orders for Ohio.
Per their IG they are closing doors. Really awful news. Jamie was such a good guy and they did such great work. They were such a good resource.
Need help, any place(s) that acquire used handguns? I have already tried Maimi armory and Palmer firearms, they both aren’t acquiring individual firearms at this moment
Less than 5 months old Smooth operation and shoots flat azzfack
So I went on Sunday and filled out the form to purchase a rifle how long should I expect the delay to be to get approved?
Are there any cheap options for CCW classes for cheap in Cincinnati, everything I looked at is over $120 not including ammo, rentals etc.
I'll be out of state from december 9-14, but I wish to buy a firearm while they're on sale. Never bought one, but I know it takes a while (7-10 business days) So Ig it's fair to ask: do they hold it for you?
Is it legal for a minor (15) to own an ar15 in Ohio? Say my dad bought it for me, is that legal? I read that on a federal level it classifies as a long gun which minor can own.
I wasn't raised with guns and never really had an urge to own one but my wife recently stated she would feel safer if we had one. A few questions here as complete newbies with absolutely zero knowledge:
I know you have to be 21 for concealed carry. But I was gonna get my concealed carry license from New Hampshire. Can I get a handgun from private sale at 18 or gifted a pistol from a parent. Or let’s say I get a gun from somebody and I get in trouble with the gun could I just say I built it since there is no law against building guns at 18. Thanks again
My son is a correctional officer at a prison. When he transports inmates he carries a Glock 17 Gen4 9mm. I own this same gun. We've been told by many that he has to follow guidelines to transport it, and many private gun ranges will not let him practice unless I am with him.
Please be easy on me. I understand this has been asked a lot and I should speak to an attorney first. I understand the law to be very strict with under 21 year olds, but it doesn't make sense to me.
How can he carry on an 8 hour shift, but can't practice shooting it?
I see no logical argument for why a law abiding citizen should be able to legally operate a motor vehicle while under the legal limit of 0.08 BAC but not also be able to carry a firearm for self defense at the same time in Ohio. Ohio's law should be amended to a written specific limit, and I'd argue that limit should be the same as the one we have for operating a vehicle.
If I'm sober enough to effectively operate a vehicle and make all related decisions, there's no reason I'm not also sober enough to effectively carry or (god forbid) operate my firearm and make all related decisions. I would argue cars are much deadlier than firearms, much less controllable, predictable, and reliable, and that many more people die from them every day regardless of BAC.
I'm not advocating for intentionally combining alcohol and firearms or for getting egregiously intoxicated and handling firearms... I wouldn't advocate for that with operating vehicles either... The two clearly don't mix in either case. However, we have established limits that are specific because its (apparently) been recognized that the detrimental effects of alcohol don't actually become significantly burdensome until a certain point. If that's not true, than operating a car with any BAC above zero should also be illegal... And I'd be fine with that because that would make sense from a consistency standpoint... I'm just pointing out inconsistencies in the logic of our current laws, and to me, the fact that these are not on the same level makes little sense.
Having a SINGLE beer at dinner with family is illegal... if carrying. Yet its perfectly legal to hop in a car and hurl down the road at 70mph right after in the same scenario... You can't make it make sense IMO.
Many other state's laws are written to allow what i'm describing here, so it’s not some novel idea. In fact, many states have no laws restricting firearms at all in relation to BAC, like our neighbors in PA... I think there's solid arugements for that as well. I'd be curious to know how many feel the same way. Maybe a petition of some sort of could be created for others who share the same view.
Mostly looking to have respectful conversations on this subject. Not trying to say what is right or wrong or pass judgment, just looking to make laws make sense. Worth noting carrying is backed by rights, driving is not.
Hey guys I have 2 domestic violence charges around 10 years ago or more, not against my spouse but against my brother we didn't get into a physical altercation but the cops in Dayton are assholes and arrested me, they reduced the domestic violence to maybe a disorderly conduct or something like that, but I've went to Cashland and bought 2 guns, a Glock and a carbine and they go through NCIS and it came back fine and they let me pick them up but I have 3 other guns paid off and my background check keeps coming back delayed now, I'm taking the CCW class already did my online portion now I go on the 27 of Nov for my range time , has anybody had any trouble getting a ccw with a domestic violence charge by any chance, btw the dv was over 10 years ago also sorry if this is the wrong forum, thanks guys appreciate it
I want to own a firearm for home defense and was reviewing the paperwork needed. When I was a teenager, I experienced mental health challenges and went to 3 locked inpatient psychiatric facilities. I went voluntarily each time albeit reluctantly. Was I committed to a mental institution for the purposes of purchasing a firearm?
Edit: it appears the answer is 'no'. Now all that's left is finding out if anyone has any recommendations!
So I have my CHL permit, so I know i can drive with my gun loaded on my person, however I'm planning on buying a gun safe box to store my gun in when I can't bring it with me. Do I need to separate the gun and ammo when storing it in my car or can I store it loaded?
As title says I am looking for a recommendation on a gunsmith that has experience recrowning barrels and is in the northeast Ohio area ideally.
Or if any of you have a recrowning tool for an m1 garand they want to lend out let me know.
I like ARs, bolt guns, shotguns, 9mm handguns, rimfire, target shooting, drills; pretty much anything. I enjoy watching Garand Thumb, Micah Mayfield, Administrative Results, Brandon Hererra, etc. on YT and would love to get into that kind of fun stuff myself. I’m a CCW holder FWIW. Anyone else? Any tips on where to meet people like this?
I’m about an hour north of Dayton.
Looking to get some private shooting instruction somewhere around Columbus or lower in Ohio. I’m fairly decent but have been putting shooting on the afterburner for a while now and I want to get back into it.
Suggestions?
Any central Ohio ranges that allow holster training? Preferably central Ohio, but I'll drive if it's necessary. All ranges I know of are very limited in what you are able to train for.
Nothing major just looking for a good gunsmith for upgrades
Has anyone had any slide work done at Black Duck Armory in Findlay? I’m looking to have my P10’s slide cut and would prefer dropping off and picking it up.
looking into getting my first hand gun possibly but i used to have a medical marijuana card, what are my chances? does that affect anything now?it expired in june and i no longer use, just wondering thanks
I just want to get better at shooting distance.
