Subreddit Rules
Remain on topic and be respectful to others. Avoid abusive language and slurs. We encourage any and all lawful discussions of California firearms and related laws.
Don't incriminate yourself or others by what you post; for example, refrain from posting images of non-CA compliant rifles, as others may assume that you own an illegal "assault weapon". Do not discuss or promote illegal activity.
All advertising, selling, or trading of firearms, ammunition, or accessories is completely prohibited. This includes jokes. No price checks, no asking where to sell guns.
We're here not only to discuss but to educate; users may not have seen previous posts so we highly encourage re-posts rather than forbid them and recommend waiting at least a week before re-posting. In addition, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Ask away.
Follow Reddit's rules and have a pleasant stay!
The 4 Rules of Gun Safety ("The 4 Rules")
Treat all guns as if they're loaded (even when you know they aren't).
Never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
Know your target and what is beyond it (avoid any and all collateral damage).

Picked up an XD9 Service model and looking for a safariland holster that I can run with my setup. I have the equipment locking system to switch out holsters on the fly. Does anyone know of a safariland holster that fits the 4" xd9 with an optic? I have heard that safariland website is misleading with the GLS 578 recommendation using the finder. People say the holster is too narrow. Anything helps!
Hey all! Just wanted to inform the community in regards to the CCW process for riverside county following SB2. Process is very simple thus far. SB2 paused a ton of licenses across the board mainly for certified firearms instructors, hence the delays. i am now getting wind of multiple licenses for these intrsuctors are barely now getting issued by the state. i know of a few friends that have been searching for an initial CCW course for 8 months now. After finally being able to take the course, paid about 170 bucks as well as the CCW application price on the county website. Process all together is about 300 buckaroos.
First and foremost moving forward make sure to fill out your application FIRST on the county website. Try to have everything completed PRIOR TO your initial interview with a private investigator. This will streamline the entire process. Of the documents requested, some are proof of residency, driver license, birth certificate, etc. Scan and submit all your documents to the online portal. Once completed with your online application you will be given a order tracking number. Use this number to access the application tracker as well as setting up an appointment at your nearest sheriff station. A list of sheriff offices is on the CCW portal. you HAVE TO contact the ccw unit at your desired location via phone to schedule a live scan appointment. You will need a cashier check or money order to the amount of 10 dollars, no exceptions. Online you can find a list of offices that work best for you within the county.
I submitted my application and attended a 16 hour course. 8 hours was a CCW course and the second part of that class was a defensive handgun course. Span of 16 hours was two total days from 0800-1700. Qualifications, if i remember correctly, are as follows. 6 shots at 7 yards, 6 shots at 15 yards and 6 shots at 30 yards. All hits have to be within the silhouette of the target. If you miss a single shot, you will need to requalify with whichever firearm you failed. The target is pretty big. i qualified with a micro compact 9mm and a full size 1911.
The livescan, for anyone that hasn't done one, is a very tedious process involving your fingerprints. prior to your livescan DO NOT use any hand sanitizer or any scented lotions as it may alter the imaging when rolling your fingers on their machines. Make sure to also have that 10 dollar cashier check. For whatever reason no card, cash or personal checks can be used. following your livescan should come the interview, this process is dependent on availability from the sheriffs office. you can wait anywhere from up to 4-8 months or 2 weeks depending on the status of the CCW units. from there you get assigned a background investigator. Be sure to be honest in all questions asked. Dont forget that youre being investigated by an entity that knows EVERY legal aspect of your life. If you work in any public safety sector (Fire, EMS) be sure to notify them. An explanation of "Self-Defense" will suffice.
From that point forward it is all a waiting game. licenses ive heard come in as early as that same week and ive also heard stories of some people having to wait for a few months. You can always contact the CCW unit however keep in mind theyre busy processing renewal applications and new CCW applications.
Hope this helps anyone inquiring!
Hello all, I recently complete my journey to getting my FFL03 and have of course been enjoying the side benefits such as the ammo shipping but i do intend on actually collecting C&R guns. I am wanting t make my first C&R purchase and have several questions, that I have not been able to find consistent information on this that seems authoritative enough for me to bet my license and my freedom on, lol.
What things are still applicable in terms of the assault weapons features count towards C&R guns? are there any exemptions in that department?
For a non featured gun like a bolt action C&R, such as a Swiss K31, I order online, send my ffl info and get it shipped directly to me with no intermediary ffl and no dros?
Once that step is completed, do I have to self report the gun to the CADOJ? or is my transaction ledger showing acquisition all I have to do?
I really want to make sure i am not screwing myself over here, any help is much appreciated.
I currently am looking into building my first AR15. From checking out several post online, many recommend the Reddit special:
Here is where I run into questions. I am thinking about getting a 16" barrel as this seems to be the sweet spot for an AR15. Feel free to correct me on this if that is not true for the barrel length.
Looking into BCM's website I see many options for the complete uppers, at least 46 different option. Many seem to be color variations and other features. Which complete upper would be best for a first time owner and builder? I generally want to take the rifle out to outdoor ranges, possibly setup a scope or optic, home defense, SHTF scenario.
This may be a dumb question, but are the BCM complete uppers compatible with 5.56 and .223?
I believe I have decided to also go MLOK instead of Featureless as I was debating this back and forth and maybe in the future I will build a Featureless AR15. If you may think otherwise for a first time owner, let me know. My rational on going with MLOK is because I saw several mods that can be added to change the magazine a bit quicker and possibly as fast as Featureless. For example, the Hogue Freedom Fighter with KingPin. Again feel free to recommend other setups that will allow a faster magazine release that I may not know of.
The other option is just buying a AR15 from a local gun store as my first AR15 but not sure which would be good to start with, but many recommend building it to learn the gun in and out and knowing what parts you have installed and possibly costing a bit less.
I appreciate any help and tips you provide in advanced.
Is buying and shooting reman ammo ever a good idea? Velocity has some Longhorn 115Gr 9mm 1000ct reman on sale for $227 right now so I’m just wondering. Factory new isn’t much more, $230 for 1000ct 115Gr Steel-cased Magtech for example.
Looking to see if anyone has heard anything substantial with regards to SB2 being ruled unconstitutional?
Wondering if I should relocate my firearms and ammo in the safe. Have termite fumigation coming to my home soon.
I just began to grow an interest in CZs. I know their pistols are pretty reliable, but just out of curiosity, how’s their customer service if something wrong with the firearm? Has anyone had any experience with CZ customer service? Do they have life time warranty?
Picked up my very first gun yesterday!
Hello All;
I tried this question on another Sub but I don't think it was understood correctly, or the commenters are unfamiliar with CA laws. I would like to get a Mini 14, and this is what my research has told me (Specific to California):
"If you shoot 5 rounds out of a 5 round magazine, and you would like to change the magazine to another one holding 5 rounds, you need to disassemble the rifle before being able to insert another 5 round magazine". This seems a bit unusual, but again it is what I have read. I DO NOT currently own a Mini 14 rifle, but if this is what is involved, I'll pass. Again I am referring to CALIFORNIA COMPLIANT Mini 14. Can someone please make it clear as to what they mean by "disassemble the rifle"? Thank you!
First time buying ammo online and sent to an FFL
For anybody who recently renewed their COE, how long did it take from the day you paid? And for those who were late to renewal, if you renewed within the 3 moth grace period ( you have 90 days to renew after expiry without having to redo the lifescan) how long did that take and did you run into any issues?
Trying to get a feel for the current wait times.
I ran across a listing for Wagners Supply off of Silver Strand way and Hwy 80. Has anyone done business with them? What are they all about and do they receive out of state transfers?
Thanks.
Decided to pull this before the 11% tax in July. Not bad for the price for my first Rifle from Rifle Supply In Huntington Beach. Time to add a Red dot
Looks like we might get some progress finally. Let’s hope the SC decides to move forward with hearing these cases.
SASS is a Sexy Awesome Sniper System, M110 is a trade mark rifle for just that. However, the current market price for one is $32000!!??? I thought $25k 2 years ago was crazy, but now is absolutely insane. I understand the M110 kit is good as it gets for an SASS, but how can $32000 be justified? I don’t understand why is so expensive.
I have a friend who has decided she'd like to purchase her first handgun for purposes of defense and eventually CCW.
I have a wide spread of firearms in different calibers, and the knowledge/experience to help her become familiar with shooting and make a selection.
Where I need help is with our laws. She lives in Riverside County, and is renting a room in a house. Would she need to inform the owners/landlords? Would this need to be the same address on her ID, or is proof of residence sufficient?
Please help me to help her feel safe and exercise her rights. Thank you.
Looking for non-maglocked/featureless lower (can be comp mag as well) preferably from Ballistic advantage or Aero Precision
I understand magazines have to be unloaded. But what if you’re flying with a fixed mag AR setup? Thanks
