/r/BayAreaGunMeetups
Like to shoot? Want to learn about shooting? Want to go shooting in the Bay Area? Then you are in the right place!
We encourage everyone to post anything and everything related to shooting in the Bay, including but not limited to:
Pictures of you and your friends shooting
Ammo availability
Range reviews and stories
Store reviews
Event recaps
AR build parties
Guns/parts in stock
Showing off your new gear
Not every meetup has to be a big event, we encourage everyone that is looking for a little company post and see if maybe some one else out there wants to go shooting too!
Please Tag your meetups like so and add the range and date in the title:
[Casual] - Meaning "I am going to the range in the title and am open to other gunnitors WITH THEIR OWN GUNS AND AMMO joining me"
[Offer] - Meaning "I am going to the range in the title line and would like to offer to have NEW SHOOTERS come with me" (Wiki page soon to come with resources for first time shooters)
[Request] - Meaning "I would like to try shooting, the date and area I live in are in the title line, would someone be open to taking me?" OR "I am a gun owner looking to try out a particular gun, does anyone have one that they would be willing to let me try?"
[Official Meetup] - these will probably mostly be posted by the mods. If you are interested in putting together a larger scale meetup, similar to what we have done in the past please message the mods so we can help you.

I'm new to skeet shooting and will be shooting at the RRGC.
Is there a best way to approach this beginning? I currently don't have any shooting partners. Do I just show-up and shoot solo or do I try to join a group of strangers?
Or is there a skeet/trap meetup that will be a better way to enter?
I’m an air pistol shooter moving to California for a few years to study. I miss my gun ( Steyr Evo) and my neighbourhood shooting range.
I’ve not had clarity yet on whether I can continue shooting while respecting the rules of this country on an F1 visa.
My search led me here and I’d be grateful for advice.
Hey guys my name is Kyle Manzano and I’ve been teaching out of the San Jose area for the last couple years. We recently decided to open our own storefront here in the South Bay Area. We’re expected to be open to the public mid August. In addition we intend to start Range Day Memberships in September. Memberships will include 4+ range days a month, with unsanctioned competition range days as well. I’m excited to get more people shooting rapid fire and holster work since all these ranges are so strict on it, we will help take care of you guys.
Hey! Today was my first day shooting at the FSP Metcalf. Needless to say, it was amazing experience and I’m hoping to find some regulars to partner with. I own a Sig M18 for now, and planning to buy more in the future. Thanks!
Hi! I am in the Petaluma area and am looking for other ranges besides Circle S Ranch. They are often crowded, and a bit run down. Indoor / Outdoor / Whatever. Any suggestions? Thank you!
The Richmond Rod & Gun Club requires specific ammunition for skeet/trap shooting. Please inform me as to what the requirement is.
Question, where can I shoot 800+ yards in northern/central CA? I need to gather data on my rifle for an upcoming competition. I’ve seen mixed reviews for Panoche Hills and whether it’s open or not. Are there any other areas I can go to on any given day and start shooting long range?
Hey gun enthusiasts. If this is your first handgun, would you prefer steel or polymer? I was thinking 1911 9mm for ccw and home defense.
The San Jose Zouaves are proud to present "The Turkey Sandwich Shoot", under the auspices of the Santa Clara County Parks Field Sports Park
This is a continuation of the San Jose Zouaves tradition of having a fun and informal day at the Metcalf 200 yard range on the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday). We will be running the range for the Field Sports Park, and invite the public to attend. (We know you'd rather be at the range than the mall, right?)
If anyone is interesting in participating, there will be two falling plates matches at Coyote Point range this Saturday, one with pistols and one with rifles.
You'll need a semi-auto pistol and/or rifle chambered in .22LR (any optics), and 48 rounds for each. Two timed strings of 6 rapid shots would be fired at distances from 10 to 25 yards for pistol and 30 to 45 yards for rifle. Whoever hits most plates, wins. Plates are about 8" in diameter.
The pistol match starts at 9am and the rifle match starts around 10:30. The cost is $25 for non-members (range fees included). It's also a good opportunity to join the club and get free admission to the 100y rifle range in exchange of serving as RSO one night a month, if someone is interested in that, just print the membership application before the match and ask an RSO to sign it.
Email usacprpc@yahoo.com if you're interested to reserve your place. There are also other types of matches most of Saturdays: Free Pistol at 50 yards, Air Pistol at 10 meters, Standard Pistol, Precision Pistol 900, and 100 yard benchrest Rifle.
The range is at Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo, if you tell the ranger you're coming to the range, they will not charge the parking fee.
Hi everyone,
I just moved to SFO and I'm looking to meet new people generally and especially have some pals to shoot sporting clays/5-stand/FITASC with if that's a thing here. I'm a member at Diablo but still waiting on my guns, though they should be here as early as this Friday. Hit me up if you're interested!
Howdy y'all,
I'm a Student at Cal, and I'm trying to find a local Tactical / Firearm Community. I'm old enough to legally handle lrs and shotguns, but not handguns in Cali.
I'd be happy for something just social, or more of an actual training session.-I have some personal experience w/ firearm safety and use. Trained on a private range w/ Baretta 9mm, n a 10-22 (I'm from out of state).
I'm based in Berkeley, n I can take bart to get around.-
If anything I'm happy to just find a logitiscally reasonable place (near Alameda County / Berkeley) for me to meetup with people since I don't have a car :(
Hey what’s up all. Was wondering if anyone knows if Panoche Hills or Tumey Hills are open for recreational target shooting yet? And if so, is there a good spot in Panoche to set up shot for target shooting closer to Paicines or Gilroy as opposed to closer to the 5? I’ll be coming from the San Jose area. Thanks in advance!
Anyone have a recommendation for local (south bay starting point) CCW class for a CA issued permit?

[A moderator approved me posting this message] Hello! My name is Logan Smith, I’m a Clinical Psychology Ph.D. student at Oklahoma State University. I’m doing research into how firearm owners prefer to learn about suicide prevention, and I could use your help.
We want to learn what firearm owners think about suicide prevention messages, and who they want to hear those messages from. Many of the current efforts to teach firearm owners about suicide prevention – such as safe storage of your firearm, or recognizing the warning signs of a suicidal crisis – have not been successful. It is believed that this might be due to firearm owners preferring to learn about suicide prevention from different people than the ones reaching out to them.
That’s why it’s important to hear from real firearm owners, like you.
The research that I am doing is an important step in understanding why firearm owners might prefer certain messengers over others. While there is no direct compensation for participating in this study, your participation would provide valuable data for our study. Anyone who currently is, or ever was, a firearm owner is welcome to participate in this project.
All of your answers are kept completely anonymous; we won’t ask any identifying information about you, or keep a list of who responded. We will not be attaching your answers to your personal identity in any way. This research has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Oklahoma State University. The study should take about 20-30 minutes to complete; for some people, it can take longer, and for others it can be shorter.
If you’re interested in participating, have questions about eligibility, or would like to know more, please send me a direct message on here or an email at logan.smith12@okstate.edu.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!

We have a lot of guys come through our classes rocking OWB holsters in positions that are counterintuitive to their body and natural position of their arms, waist height, etc. Set your gear around YOU. Hope this helps someone 🤙🏽🇺🇸
Does anyone have recommendations in the Bay Area for cerakote work? Trying to find someone good locally instead of shipping my gun off to Texas.
Brand new to this sub, did a quick search and only see info on ranges and weird quirky laws.
I want to see what I need to do to legally own handgun, Semi auto rifle, and shotgun in SF, and it’s difficult to find information that is easy to understand and follow.
Thus, I presume customer service reps in a local shop will likely help with the process.
Does anyone here have recommendations for a shop local to SF proper that will help?
Bonus if the shop accepts online shipments.
Hi there!
Are there any active gun meetups or clubs active in this area? Plus points if some of them were women only or mixed.
Thanks!
Do you have a Glock and want to get safer/better with your pistol? Then you want to check out the GSSF competion at Richmond Rod and Gun Club running the weekend of August 21-22.
Designed to be beginner friendly, GSSF competitions are a safe, easy, low-pressure way to get involved in action shooting sports. GSSF uses the same safety rules, commands, and proceedures as organizations like USPSA, IDPA, and 3-Gun. There are few ways to become safer, more accurate, and faster as a shooter than these competitions.
To participate, you need a Glock, ammunition, at least 2 magazines, ear and eye protection, a case for your firearm, and the ability to follow directions. If you're new to action shooting sports, the Range Officers at each station will help you through the process of shooting safely, so you don't have to memorize the rulebook first.
You do need to become a GSSF member, which costs $35/year. Each division you shoot in has an entry fee of $30 ($35 day of the match). You can enroll in multiple divisions if you'd like, with 7 divisions available, but most of the divisions have limitations on the model of glock you can use. You can join in the fun for $65 plus ammo.
You'll need about 100 rounds per divsion you are shooting. Technically, you can get by with 81 rounds/division, or even 54 in a couple of the divisions, but best to plan on 100, you might miss on the plate rack.
If you want a shooting buddy for this event, like if it's your first time, let me know and we can meet up. If we get enough interested beginners, I'll get one of the RO's to give the group an orientation.
Assuming these places are currently open to go recreational target shooting right now, has anyone recently been there to go shooting? If so, how was it? I know at Panoche Hills, they closed down the road to motor vehicles.
Hi guys,
I am an international student in the US, currently residing in the Bay Area. Can someone let me know what are the requirements for me to shoot in a range, and which shooting ranges should I visit ?
Thanks in Advance :)
PS: I don't wish to buy a gun, just learn to shoot.
Does anyone know if Panoche Hills is still open for recreational target shooting/camping?
