North Carolina and Charlotte area carry laws

In a little over two weeks I will be visiting the Charlotte and Concord areas for the Coke 600. I have some information through U.S. Lawshield, but would like any additional information pertaining to the as laws as they're constantly change. I have a Resident NJ Permit to Carry, Florida and Utah, and Penn Non-Resident Permits.

Thank you for the Info

PCSing to NC

I’m moving from WA in 3 weeks and I’ve already found a rifle I’m looking to purchase. Is there a minimum amount of days that I have to be a NC resident in order to purchase a firearm? My current state requires 60 days for long guns and 90 for handguns but I haven’t found anything for here.

Was denied from buying hand gun after background form was denied

Today i went to go buy my first handgun and after filing the background form it came back denied.

I have no idea why it would be denied since i have no felonies, criminal history (bar a non-felonious dui 6+ years back) etc.

How can i find out why my application was denied and what do i do to change this issue after finding out?

FYI // Silencer Shop Kiosk / Carolina Gunrunners

FYI / PSA -

Last time I was at Carolina Gunrunners, they tried to charge me to use the Silencer Shop (SS) kiosk to register my fingerprints. Are they still doing / enforcing that? Ended up getting my suppressor through a range down in Fayetteville, and I later found out that it is against SS policy to charge patrons for just fingerprinting.

It’s free to have your fingerprints recorded into the system / register for an account through the kiosk - they charge if you DON’T buy a can from SS ($40 or $50, forget) as they charge to transfer the fingerprints in support of the eForm of interest.

If it wasn’t discussed already in the past:

A. If bought through SS to an SS-supporting local gun shop (LGS) -

  1. background check fee ($50?)
  2. $205 from SS for tax stamp

B. If bought from another dealer and transferred to an LGS that utilizes the kiosk -

  1. transfer fee (changes per shop)
  2. background check fee ($50?)
  3. $205 from SS for tax stamp

I learned a lot from the suppressor purchasing process (using the SS procedures), and I hope this helps you out, too.

Can I go to the shooting range if I have been to the mental hospital?

Like the title says. In 2017 I was forcefully admitted. In 2023 I was voluntarily admitted. I was wondering if I would be able to go with a buddy to the shooting range.

NC CHP reciprocity question

I hope I word this somewhat coherently. The NC CHP is only good for handguns in the state. However, when it comes to reciprocity, are we still restricted to only concealing handguns in other states or does our CHP act as a general CCW, allowing us to conceal brass knuckles for example, if the state we are in allows it?

Purchasing a hand gun at 18

Hey, 18 year old here looking to buy a handgun. From what I understand its totally legal in North Carolina for me to buy a handgun from a private seller rather than an FFL dealer. I guess my questions would be do I need to possess a purchase permit? and how would I go about sourcing someone looking to sell their gun? Thanks!

Cheap NFA transfer fees in Charlotte?

Since Silencershop is out of stock of everything, I’m looking for a place that won’t charge me up the ass to transfer a few suppressors. Preferably a place not run by total dickheads. Let me know if y’all know of anything.

Hey so my cousin gifted me a gun while we were both living in NC but he just moved to SC. Not sure what I should do or if it is still legal for me to have the gun.

Experience Flying From RDU With Pistol - Pretty Easy

I flew American Airlines to DFW recently, and I figured I might as well bring my pistol with me. It seemed to go pretty smooth.

American Airlines has their specific list of requirements on their website, and TSA has the basic legal requirements on their site. AA doesn't seem to require anything extra on top of the TSA requirements.

I used my Hornady car lock-box with the barrel-type key. I made sure that when it is locked, you can't wiggle the sides up and down enough to see inside or anything.

At RDU, I went to the employee at the check-in desk and told them I had a secured and unloaded firearm to check. They had me sign a piece of paper swearing that I was following the airline and TSA rules, checked my ID, and attached a piece of paper letting the screener know there is a firearm to the lock-box. They let me keep the pistol case inside my regular luggage, which I was also checking since I couldn't bring my pocket knives and multitool through security. So I only had to pay one checked bag fee instead of two.

At the DFW luggage carousel, they directed me to the place that oversized luggage comes in, checked my ID, and gave me my bag.

Using my regular lock-box and bringing the tether with me meant I could secure it in my rental car as well. Only one place we visited had 30.06 signage (Texas' legally binding "no guns allowed" sign), but I was glad to have the lock-box in the car for that trip.

Going back was pretty much the same. At RDU, there's a small office next to the luggage carousel, and you wait there for them to bring up the bag, they check your ID and away you go.

At no point was I asked to open the case or give them the key for inspection, but I guess they can require you to assist them in opening it if they choose to do an inspection.

Of course, Texas is "easy." If I was flying to a less-friendly state, I might have got more scrutiny, even if everything was legal.

Law differences when concealed carry in South Carolina with NC reciprocity?

Been reading up on SC concealed carry laws because I’ll be down there often and NC permit has reciprocity there.

I have my permit here and want to carry while I’m down there. None of my travels will be in or near places like schools, municipal or public buildings, or similar.

Seems like notifying an officer if they engage with you is the same.

Their no firearm signs laws are very specific and I haven’t seen any signs where I’ve been that would meet the requirements.

Any other thoughts I should keep in mind while I’m down there?
