Was this to kind of an email to the governor

Sorry it’s so long 🫤

Thanks to u/Falco_FFL for posting the bills and stats in Colorado politics

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding Some House And Senate Bills which Are currently awaiting your signature. As a law-abiding gun owner and a responsible member of our community, I respectfully urge you not to sign this bill into law. This legislation, if enacted, would impose unnecessary burdens and restrictions on law-abiding citizens like myself, without effectively addressing the root causes of gun violence. Rather than focusing on punitive measures that penalize responsible gun owners, I believe our efforts would be better directed towards comprehensive solutions that prioritize mental health support, addressing illegal firearm trafficking, and promoting responsible gun ownership through education and training. Furthermore, such as increased background check requirements, restrictions on firearm purchases, etc.], which I believe would unfairly target law-abiding citizens without improving public safety. As your constituent, I trust that you will carefully consider the implications of this bill and its potential impact on the rights and safety of law-abiding citizens in our state. I urge you to prioritize evidence-based policies that address the complex issue of gun violence while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. Thank you for considering my perspective on this important matter. I look forward to your decision and remain hopeful that you will choose to uphold the rights and interests of all citizens in our state. Sincerely, A Respectful Citizen Of Colorado.

House Bill 24-1174 increases the training requirements for concealed carry permit applicants and requires class instructors to be certified by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. This legislation is a solution in search of a problem, meant to harass gun owners and instructors by arbitrarily raising the qualification standards and likely the costs, despite not showing any existing deficiency in the current training standards.

House Bill 24-1348 mandates that firearms stored in unattended vehicles must be kept in a locked hard-sided container that is kept out of view or within the locked trunk of the vehicle. The bill creates civil penalties for infractions.

House Bill 24-1349, originally a 11.5% tax, the bill as amended creates a 6.5% excise tax on the sale of all firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition in the state. If signed by the governor, the tax will be on the ballot for voter approval this Fall. California is the only other state to enact similar legislation.

House Bill 24-1353 creates a duplicative state level permitting system for federal firearm licensed dealers. The new permit imposes an unnecessary burden on these already highly regulated businesses while placing them at the mercy of potentially hostile state bureaucrats.

Senate Bill 24-131 expands Colorado's "sensitive places," also knows as gun-free zones. Although the bill has narrower definitions following amendments by the Senate, the bill is still a threat to law-abiding gun owners, and it is important to note that 94% of mass shootings occur in "gun-free" zones.

Land ~1 hour of Thornton?

I'll take public/BLM land or outdoor ranges as long as they aren't fudd-y. Not asking for anyone's exact coordinates just a general area, maybe some scouting tips/recommendations for GPS map apps that show public/private land

I’ve spent over half an hour trying to find specifications on mental health status, and gun purchase in Colorado - am Ohio resident, and gun owner.

I’m not anti gun. I legally have a licensed firearm. Now that’s out of the way my sister, and her husband weren’t/aren’t, they own multiple firearms, and are Colorado residents.

In a mere few months my sister went from a happy wife, loving mother of two, with a phd in psychology working with special needs children - to insane.

She has gone from being sweet natured the first 35 years on this planet to so manic and delusional and full of rage the only thing I can compare it to is how actors in movies behave when they are possessed by a demon, and the priest is trying to pull it out. Not hyperbolic.

What’s very bad here is she’s convinced her husband wants to kill her. All guns were removed from their home weeks back. Things have continued to escalate - my brother in law, and nieces are living with my parents who moved to Colorado to be near the grandkids.

She’s so manic/paranoid/delusional she did $12,300 in damages to their home. Not factored into that insurance estimate, she threw away everything wardrobe wise tied to her daughters from bows to shoes - she was meticulous. Put it all in the trash, and poured gasoline over everything. Thankfully, whatever reason she didn’t light it - probably, lack of lighter. Then took off in a car with no wallet or ID. Her car was found abandoned in New Mexico with the keys in the ignition. She was picked up by the police 48 hrs later on some random highway, and a seven day psy hold was done.

She is now out.

You all have ZERO idea how hard it is to force psychiatric care - we even found an ad she typed for Craigslist (but didn’t post) looking for a hitman. Police said because it wasn’t posted with a monetary amount it’s not enough of a sign of “grave risk of violence”.

I’ll skip the other insane things she’s done.

She is a threat to others - that’s reality.

She has no psychiatric record in Colorado as the 1001 things she’s done aren’t enough for forced evaluation - you must have solid proof someone is “grave threat of suicide or homicide”.

In Ohio it is very easy to get a gun via private buyer. Out there, Colorado, it’s private sellers have to start background checking in 2025 correct? Currently, private sales can/do take place. Regardless, everything is vague on psychiatric history… a judge has to rule an individual unable to purchase a gun?

My sister is beautiful, poised (well was), and can appear sane long enough to buy a gun. Odds are if this occurs, and she’d have to have cash hidden somewhere she hasn’t used - she will end up in prison for attempted murder or murder.

I sound hyperbolic. Again, I’m not.

Her husband is consumed with emergency full custody/restraining order that states she can’t be anywhere near her daughters.

My 75 year old father asked me to look up Colorado gun laws, but you just had all this stuff hit the floor for a vote. The law doesn’t mean it’s followed. I can’t find what Colorado considers mental health illegibility - and this entire thing is upsetting to even be doing.

Turns out bi polar can develop at any age and turn a loved one into an unrecognizable monster. Pretend this is your sister, and like you she’s in Colorado. How easy will it be for her to get a firearm? Cash. As easy as Ohio?

Appreciate your time.

Also, she does have a conceal carry permit.

Best bulk ammo suppliers in Boulder county

Looking for good options to buy bulk ammo in the Boulder County or Superior/Broomfield area. Yes I know it’s pricier than online but I’d like to support local gun shops. Thanks!

Outdoor Range Etiquette?

I've been in Colorado for years but my father is visiting for the first time next weekend. I'd like to take him shooting but have a couple questions about rules/policies so it goes smoothly. It's a little-known range on public land without RSO's or the "normal" structure of commercial businesses. I fully plan to follow all standard range rules even when there's no RSO, but a couple questions:

  1. Should we only be using steel targets or would paper somehow suffice?

  2. How do you ask for a cease fire to walk out and set up your own targets? Just yelling and hoping you're heard?

  3. Many indoor ranges have rules about guns being in a case unless you're on the firing line. Is this generally required at outdoor spots?

  4. Do we need to police all our brass?

Thanks folks, let me know if I'm missing any rules unique to outdoor public land. I'd also love to hear any crazy stories of people not following etiquette and what happened.

Best revolver chambered in 357 mag?

Am looking to replace my current revolver and am eyeballing either the S&W 686 or 686+.

Have a GP100 already, are there any other recommendations for revolvers chambered in 357 mag?

(not rich enough to keep both, going to use proceeds for the new revolver).

*EDIT*

To clarify, by best I guess I mean, overall? This would be mostly for funsies, not particularly looking to carry so 4" barrel or higher would be ok.

Douglas county CCW

Has anyone applied for a CCW from Douglas County recently? When I went and applied they said it’s a 90 day turn around for approval. Is that normal for Colorado ? I’ve had a CCW in other states and it’s taken anywhere from a day to 3 weeks to receive my CCW. 90 days seems kinda long.

CBI still down

CBI is still down since Monday due to a “power outage that damaged systems” and attempt to restore to a new system. Curious it was only the background check system that was affected. They are also stating it’s a migration and NOT a restoration.

Final Day (Sine Day) at the legislature. The firearms/ammo tax is up for final reading and passage.

Today is the last day at the Colorado legislature called “Sine day.”

1292 and 1270 are both likely dead! Good wins.

1353 is likely already passed. Boo. This is going to destroy our FFLs so do your part to support them.

1349 the firearms tax is up for final vote today. This is the main one we have a chance to run out the clock on! If enough amendments or delays happen this one could die. Additionally this one will go to a vote in November if passed today. Small wins on this one because the original tax was 11% but it got amended down to 6.5% and at least there’s a small amount given to school resource officers. Could’ve been much worse but it still sucks.

Today is important but more important is to register to vote, get active in your party and local politics (either push Ds to be more pro gun or push Rs to be better), and get ready for November.

What is on the agenda today that we should be concerned about?

So I don't really understand how to read the assembly website as I am not a smart man. I see there are a couple bills left that we may have to worry about. HB24-1349 and HB24-1270. Not sure what the status is of those though.

Outdoor shooting with my son

Hey all, I know shooting spots are pretty much sacred but I will try anyways. I’m looking for a shooting spot where I can take my 6 year old for some plinking. The main thing I’m looking to avoid is folks shooting off heavy calibered rifles (I’ll leave mine home too) next to me as I’d like to ease him into shooting. Indoor ranges like Magnum are just too loud for a fun experience and having an RSO breathing down my neck while I try and teach him basic gun safety does not sound like it would be helpful.

Ideally im looking for a spot on public land as close as possible to Colorado Springs/Falcon. Happy to drive up to woodland park.

If you know a good spot (coordinates/directions would be helpful) and don’t want to post below please feel free to DM me.

Edit: thanks for all the suggestions, love this community!
