Dad wants to send me a gun that I’ve enjoyed shooting. The gun is registered to him in Tennessee. Can he send the gun (yes it’s on the approved gun list) from a Tennessee FFL to the DC authorized FFL and it be registered in my name here in DC?
I could not find this exact scenario in the MPD site.
I don’t plan to do CCW.
My friend lives and works in sketchy areas at night. ( DC / NoVa) I’m changing employer, so can’t be walking with her anymore.
She is 100% anti gun, so CCW is a no go. However I managed to convince her to carry a pepper spray and attend defensive martial arts classes.
With that said, are these legal in our area? Do you have any other recommendations?
For car and in bag; POM MK3 Pepper Spray - https://www.amazon.com/POM-Pepper-Spray-Belt-Model/dp/B0CV2TKSJW?

I applied for the license a week ago and gotta go through with waiting for 90 days… did it take less or more time for you? Thanks! If you were denied, what happened?
I was under the false impression that for every handgun you wish to purchase in the District and wish to carry you must register it as a concealed carry gun.
Not true. If I’m the only one confused by this then that’s on me.
I think I was confused by that by the sheer number of people who were complaining about the number of CCW appointments available. It just didn’t seem me that those people were all new CCW registers, but people trying to register a firearm under CCW.
Turns out the CCW is a blanket policy for anything you want to carry that is legal in the District.
Once youve obtained your CCW, you can use the normal gun registration appointment of which there are dozens per day.
My question is now that I have a CCW how do I know what is legal to carry? If it’s concealed can I carry it? Anything that’s legal? Or just handguns?
My CCW instructor told me I can have a 10 rd mag with one in the chamber. But another instructor said I can only have 9 in the mag and one in the chamber.
Which is accurate?
So I finally had my appointment yesterday and kinda left it feeling a little bit unsure about the process. Not a DC resident. Most of the employees were very nice to me but they did make several mistakes with my info that I had to correct. The big thing is when I got done with my prints and signed they were just like “you are all set”. I asked if there was anything else I needed to do and they just told me to wait for the emails. As I got on the metro I realized, other than the receipt for payment at the kiosk, I didn’t get any sort of tracking or case number from them. Do I just chill and wait for them to issue my permit or was I supposed to get a confirmation email afterwards? I registered 4 handguns along with my permit so I am assuming that is gonna make my application take longer. They said wait 45-90 days but I assume that’s just what they always say and that it usually takes longer. Anyone have any insight?
Basically the question above, for models that are MD legal but not DC legal, would one be able to keep them in storage in MD and use the range there, even if the address on my HQL would not be the storage location? I am viewing this as the only alternative to selling my babies. Can't avoid the move.
Good evening, I am seeking information as to the process of a DC resident applying for a conceal permit in both MD and Maryland. I also see a lot of listings naming Utah. Can I get some answers please?.
I've been waiting for a month for recent registration application. After calling them and being told they have a lot of applications to process, I'm wondering if they list the total number of applications they receive. Do they post how many applications they receive publicly somewhere?
I suspect that they may not be adequately staffed given the resistance from DC government towards 2A rights. I think people would be more patient with them(MPD employees) if they are more forthcoming with this information.
P.S.- I think the election might have something to do with the surge in applications this month. Most DC residents remember the craziness that happened in the last election. Personally, I highly doubt anything like that would ever happen again.
Recently went in to register my first firearm, has been about 2 weeks and am curious if it takes longer for a first time or if it is just always random. If anyone has recently been approved I’d be interested in hearing how long it took for basic registration (not ccw)
Thanks!
EDIT: Received my registration yesterday, 25 days after my appointment
Hey guys, can I own a ruger mark IV in DC? my buddy wants to give me it for a low price. The only thing is that they come with a threaded barrel. So now im confused. it's still up for sale on G and D website though.. This is it https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/ruger-mark-iv-2245-lite-semi-auto-rimfire-pistol-with-anodized-gold-finish
wouldn't it be counted as a threaded muzzle? not a threaded barrel? Im a gun noob so I dont know too much but the description says threaded muzzle lol
I'm an MD resident who applied for a DC CCW and registered one hand gun back in July . I've received the approved CCW card , but nothing concerning the handgun registration . As an out of DC resident , am I supposed to get a document ? If so , how do I track it down . [ You can forget about calling in . You just go onto permanent hold ]
I'm supposed to drive down to DC today. The appointment was so far out I nearly forgot, and now I'm scrambling for my documents that I misplaced! I think one form of proof of residence is my drivers license, but the others seem to need "mailed" copies, or to be "certified". All of my bills are paperless and autopay. So I don't have canceled checks, or anything mailed. Has anyone run into a problem of just providing a printed copy of a bank account? Additionally, I have one think that says bank account or credit card statements are fine, but when I look on the website, these things aren't listed!
any guidance, experiences, would be helpful!
Someone please tell me why I am standing here arguing with the officer at the desk about why my “fixed magazine” rifle doesn’t need a featureless build. For fucks sake can we please spend a moment to educate the people doing a job how to do that job🤷♂️
Would a Magpul PRS be legal? (https://magpul.com/prs-gen3-precision-adjustable-stock.html?mp_global_color=118)
I know the answer is likely that MPD considers telescoping and adjustable to be interchangeable terms…but that’s not what the law says.
I was under the impression that in order to register my guns on my CCW in the district as a VA resident they still have to abide by DCs roster requirements just like a DC residents. However today when I went to go check out a new gun that has not been added to one of the rosters (s&w bodyguard 2.0) the clerk assured me that a non resident does not have to have their guns on roster. They can simply submit the used firearm addendum and it doesn’t matter if the gun is on roster or not as long as it is not an assault weapon. I am pretty sure this is wrong but was wanting some confirmation as my CCW appointment is this month and I don’t want to screw up the process by trying to register something that isn’t eligible.

I wanted to build out a glock 48 with a ported barrel and a slide. I know that the lower of a glock is the only serialized part which means I can save at least 250 by just getting a lower and buying prebuilt upper. I'm wondering if that will be an issue with registration. Has anyone done this before?
If anyone out there is a DC resident, has a LEOSA permit and has purchased a handgun while a DC resident let me know. I have a few questions.
Hi everyone and please correct me if I'm wrong. Given that DC is not a state and isn't in one, how do gun laws work and how does it compare to other states? Do DC's gun laws work differently than in other states? Are DC's gun laws strict or lax?
Hey all, I am moving to DC for work and am working on understanding all the rules & regs. This subreddit has been very useful - but I wanted to see if you all could provide clarification (faster than waiting for MPD to reply in an email).
I am moving with several prev owned weapons and wanted to make sure I understand the forms/requirements.
I assume I can register all weapons at my first appointment (within 48 hrs). Do I need to pay $13 reg fee for each weapon or just $13 per appointment
Do I need to fill out a PD-219 AND Used Firearm Explanation per weapon, despite the seller type? Some are purchased from stores and others are private deals/transfers made years ago in states where that sort of thing is legal.
Do I need to list the original seller on the PD-219 or just the Addendum? What if I do not remember their names and the actual dates (some tx's were over 12 years ago)?
