Looking for a good gun range. Preferably with membership/classes.

Been to Athena a couple times, but looking to take my pistol shooting skills to the next level. Currently in the process of getting my LTC and dry firing a ton at home, but looking for somewhere that I can get access to lots of classes for cheap.

A great example is The Range at Austin has a thing called the "Shooting Dojo" where you pay $180/month no contracts and you have unlimited access to the range and classes of varying skill levels. Does anybody know of anything similar in the Houston area?

I know there are plenty of options as far as range memberships that waive range fees, but I haven't found anything that gives lots of classes that won't cost an arm and a leg.

Please help. Cheers.

Rives Rifle range

Anybody ever been to this place and know if they have steel targets?

The outdoor range I got to is closed until further notice due to flooding.

Any other ranges in Houston area have steel targets outdoors?

AR15 Range Day at Top Gun

We went through and assembled some of the best up and coming AR15 brands to make the ultimate Range Day.

All their demos are free to shoot minus the reduced price of ammo. Crazy deals on all their products plus without a doubt the best beef jerky I’ve ever had.

Local Practical Shooting Matches

Where can I find information about local shooting matches? I am aware of Generation Practical Shooters that do USPSA events in Wallis. There has got to be more hasn't there? I have searched the USPSA and IDPA website for local clubs and all but GPS seem to be defunct. It doesn't need to be USPSA/ IDPA per say. I am open to other organizations and even local club matches. I must be missing something. The size of Houston and no real local matches seems odd.

Need help finding range to practice for pistol matches

Howdy,

As the title suggests I'm in a difficult situation. I'm very active in USPSA and Steel Challenege. I get to shoot a decent amount at matches, but I'm getting stuck in B class because I can't practice anywhere outside of dry fire. I need a range that will at a minimum let me draw from the holster, set up multiple targets, has 25 yard bays minimum, and allows rapid fire. Preferably I could also move and shoot, and use steel targets. Dream range is basically ccc or the ranch, but distance puts a chilling factor on both of those ranges. I'm located in Bellaire but all the local indoor ranges are awful price wise, and obviously won't let me set up targets in arrays that would be useful for uspsa/steel challenge.

I don't care if it's indoor or outdoor. My preference is outdoor but a 45 minute commute is about the maximum I'd want to deal with. Ideally the range would also have rifle bays out to +500 with steel, but thats optional. I can afford private memberships my wife takes the bar in July and I'm an Engineer. I cant leave the Houston area because of the wife and her family. Otherwise the lack of good ranges would have pushed me to Dallas/San Antonio/College Station. Every time I've looked on my own for a gun range I wind up depressed about how terrible all the options are. Maybe one of y'all Houston natives can help me find something. Fingers crossed

Gunsmith recommendations for drilling gas port for a 300blk.

10.3 BA Hanson barrel severely undergassed. Tried a spring co yellow and Odin works adjustable light buffer. Yet still won’t reliably cycle subs with a can. Lay it on me ya freaks…also thank you.

Shooting ranges up to 500+?

Kinda new to the east side of Houston. Worked on the west side of Houston a couple years ago and mainly went fishing but this time, I’m looking to go shooting more often. Got a couple pistols, a couple ar’s, and a .338 lapua. Looking for at least 300-500 yards to shoot for the 338. Anyone know of a place that doesn’t have a mile long waiting list or where we don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for a year long membership? Won’t be around the area too much longer so I’m looking for a more pay as you go option. Thanks in advanced.

Solutions for problems that don't exist; painter's tape over weapon's light.

Is it just me, it must be because I've never seen anyone else do this.

When I go to the range, I put a piece of blue painter's tape over the lens of my pistol light because I hate cleaning the gunpowder off of the lens.

Some of my lights have levers to secure it to the rail so it's relatively easy to remove before a range session, but I wonder if there's a plastic/rubber cap for pistol lights (like the ones on scopes) so that I don't look so weird using blue painter's tape.

I suppose I could use clear scotch tape.

*edit*

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll stick with tape. I don't have a 3d printer and I don't want to clean other solvents; although it looks odd - tape is cheap, fast/easy to apply and remove.

Weapon light color

How come most weapon lights are white? And why not an amber/ yellow color?

If fog lights are more effective at seeing through fog with an amber color. Why wouldn't this be applied for weapon lights?

PX4 storm range rental?

I am looking at getting into a compact double/single action carry. I’ve got my 3 current favorites based just on research (sig 229, cz 07, baretta px4) but haven’t actually shot any of these.

I’ve done a bit of looking around and I’ve found ranges that have CZs or Sigs for rent but the beretta seems to be a little harder to come by. Anyone know a place in/around Houston that has a PX4 I could try out?

advice with AR15 pistol lefty gun purchase

I live in Houston and want to buy my first AR15 pistol with 8 or 10.5inch barrel with lefty upper (ejection port left side) and complete ambi lower (charging handle, mag release, safety, selector switch). Does anyone know of a store that might have this setup already completed? Or will I need to start buying individual parts and assembling?

Thank you

Trying to get a LTC soon. I might have done things out of order... will that matter?

So I did the application and thumbprint earlier this week. I see now that people typically do those last. I plan to take the online class tomorrow for the LTC cert and then find somewhere for the shooting proficiency.

  • Does going out of order matter?
  • Where do you recommend for the shooting test where they're cheap, easy, etc.?

Has anyone had NFA engraving done at Texas Tactical Gear? I usually get it done at Engrave It Houston, not cheap but they do a good job. Texas Tactical Gear is closer to me and their price is a lot cheaper. Thanks in advance 👍🏽

Outdoor Range Reccomendations?

Hey guys I know this question has been asked many times in the past but I am looking for reccomendations on an outdoor range. I am in South West Houston area past Sugarland, a little place called Richmond. I’m looking for a reasonably priced range that is open sundays. I will mainly be shooting long guns until I turn 21 to buy a pistol. I’d prefer if it had a minimum age of 18 to shoot alone, since I’m only 20 and can’t always count on a buddy to go. A LOT of ranges have a 21+ requirement to shoot solo. I will be sighting in my AR at 100 yds so anything 100+ would be a great help. Please drop your favorites as well as prices and whether it’s per hour or just a flat fee. Thanks in advance!
