My current primary state of residence has neither lax nor restrictive firearm regulations, but I’ll be moving to NYC in a few months where my state is a comparable free-for-all. I’m fairly certain that half of my guns would not be acceptable in NYC, so I’m already planning to sell those. That said, it seems exceptionally difficult to move with my acceptable guns, so I’m wondering if it would be less onerous to sell all of them and buy a new one once I’m an official resident (and eligible for a permit). Is there a feasible path by which I can move with them? Does anyone have any experience moving to NYC with guns?
Thanks in advance!
I wanted to check on the situation with the HIPAA release—I’ve been seeing some posts about it. For context, I applied for the premise pistol permit a few back in the early summer, and about two months ago, I saw a psychiatrist (via telehealth) because I had a couple of panic attacks over the past year. I’ve never had depression, anxiety, or any other mental health issues before. I believe the panic attacks may have been caused by a heart arrhythmia that I actually have and they weren't actually even panic attacks.
After just one visit, the doctor prescribed me a beta blocker and a couple of benzodiazepines to take as needed if I have another panic attack in the future. I filled the prescriptions but haven’t taken either medication since (and am not planning to after researching them).
My question is: since I filled out the permit application before I saw the doctor—and considering I haven’t even used the prescribed medications—do I still need to disclose anything? If I choose not to disclose, would they require a HIPAA release? How would they even know?

Had a question for anyone in Nassau or suffolk county. Do you know of any local stores that sell gun powder and primers?
Hi how long will it take for an application for nyc ccw if i applied 11 months after the on premise ? will i get a letter in the mail , email or check the submitted app on the website ? thnks
gun.
Why is the CC application asking for business info? I don't own a business.
Hey everyone!
I want to pick your brains for a minute—what better place than the gun community? I’m tossing around some ideas about offering memberships at my store, and I’d love to get your thoughts.
Here’s the gist: we’d have different membership levels with perks, like:
Right now, we charge $10 for each ammo transfer and $35 for firearm transfers, and we do a TON of them every month. I don’t see a lot of shops offering something like this, so I’m wondering:
Just brainstorming here and thought I’d ask the community for feedback. Let me know what you think—any ideas or suggestions are welcome!
Outdoor rat issue in Farmingdale near mine and neighbors garbage and they are burrowing under shed.
Planning on setting up some plywood as a backstop and food Infront one night to bait them in. Is there any legal issues?
Hello, I have a Nj legal ar15 and me and my buddies are planning a trip up to one of our friends cabins upstate and I was wondering what I would have to do to make it state legal in ny or if it was even worth doing.
Just ordered an upper and a lower from FM for a non threaded ranch Rifle. Looks like a killer deal. Full lower with stock was $299 Full Crowned fm upper $375 $575 all in on a full NYS and NYC compliant rifle. No Tax from the site either
Recently bought a house with 10+ acres in the town of Webster. I cannot find anything online/on town code if I can discharge a fire arm on my property, or gun hunt on it.
I'm a resident of Oklahoma and I also own a home in Oswego County. I spend summers (<100 days) there each year and took advantage of the short window of time when it was easier to get a CCW license after the Bruen case. I'm a retired AF Officer and wanted to be able to keep my personal M9 at my place in upstate NY.
I'd like to bring another pistol with me from Oklahoma during my drive to NY for the upcoming holidays. Do I have to ship it or surrender it to an FFL until I add the S/N to my pistol permit? I'd prefer to transport it myself since I already own it legally in Oklahoma. Is another option adding the serial number to my permit when I'm in NY and then transporting it myself next summer?
I want to stay on the right side of the law...regardless of how ridiculous they are in the "Empire State".
On 12/5/24, our lead armorer was on their way to work a gunshow with the family business down here in Mississippi. He always flies with his TSA carry-on approved beskar'gam (body armor) packed, never worn, its never been an issue anywhere. SYR Regional Airport Authority cops and the Onondaga DA decided to pull him aside for over an hour saying he had "pending felony charges" (a lie) and trying to charge him with something. He provided business docs, webshop, gunshow poster, religious identification as a Keeper of the Way of the Mandalore, and walked them through "eligible professions" on dos.ny.gov/body-armor as the Stormtroopers admitted they'd "never heard of them" and are therefore not trained at all in NYEL 144-a, NYGBL 396-eee and NYPLs 270.20, 270.21, 270.22.
The DAs "boss" was called for directions compounding detainment time, and ordered the DA and SYR cops press a 270.21 "Unlawful purchase of body armor" misdemeanor and seize his property, violating his 1st, 2nd, 4th and 14th Amendments. Obviously a malicious charge and huge waste of our business' time, this is an opportunity to put the NY Disarmament Regime on trial and secure the People’s 2A rights and Keepers' religious freedoms.
NYEL 144-a, NYGBL 396-eee and NYPLs 270.20, 270.21, 270.22 are unconstitutional and we are duty bound to take them off the board and bring body armor back to the people of NY. We have your back against the unlawful overreach of the Empire state: The only reason they'd ban armor is because they want citizens to be soft targets.
Stay tuned, Court begins 12/18/24.
So I am looking to get a ccw, I am a resident of Westchester county and I’m not sure exactly where to start.
Background: I am female, have shot a gun once at a range, I do not currently have any gun permit. I am starting from scratch. This is purely for protection and safety. I just want to have one gun on me that I am 1000% comfortable with.
Any suggestions how I should start the process?
Should I start with the required classes first before submitting an application? Should I go to a shooting range before the classes?
Any advice is welcomed! TIA.
I'm looking into getting a Henry lever action in 44 mag. Would I beable to buy ammo for it without having a pistol permit seeing as it's technically pistol ammo
I'm currently filling out my permit forms, and accidentally filled my work address in wrong on the form. I put it all in the first address box instead of spacing it out on the sheet.
I know it seems super anal retentive, but should I just re-do it and have my references re-sign? or am I being overly cautious?
I just don't want to give a reason to be denied I guess.
Thanks!
Seemingly every range's website i've visited has a rule forbidding anything but slugs or is members only, does anyone have any ranges that have a somewhat fast member sign-up process or allow shotshells?
Filling out my application for my permit and didn't notice it at the time of my fingerprinting, but there is a question on the first page in under the info about employment. It is asking about "Nature of Business" so does that mean it wants to know the industry like if its entertainment or education or something? Or do they want to know if its for profit/non profit?
Edit: Thanks for all the answers, I’m just gonna wait until they visit me sometime… I’ll keep the post up in case anyone else goes and searches with a similar question so they can avoid the downvotes to oblivion.
Hi, I’m active duty stationed in CA, I have a handgun (hellcat, is there a roster there like ca?) registered to me, and still have a NY license, but California ID with my ca address.
Am I able to bring my gun into NY legally to go shooting with my dad? He’s always wanted to with me and never bothered to go through the process to buy his own gun.
I’m familiar with the FAA regulations and aware I can’t bring in ammo unless I ship it to an FFL, but I was reading I can just buy ammo there with a background check and don’t need to have a gun in my name like California yeah?
I’ll be glad to give anymore info if needed, or if it’s just more worth it to rent a gun at a range I’ll do that, but I’d prefer mine.
This is legal to order have shipped to my FFL?
Have a premise residence permit, want to add a 2nd pistol to it. I've seen posts on here from several months back that the process has recently changed: that you don't need pre-authorization, and instead being a NYPD form to your FFL, have them fill it out and then return it to the licensing divison.
Has anyone done this recently? Like, last couple weeks? NYPD hasn't returned my messages or emails (shocker), but if someone else can confirm this from a very recent interaction I'd be willing to chance it without hearing from NYPD first, just for the sake of actually getting this gun in hand sooner rather than later.
I'm thinking of getting a .22 pistol for some cheaper fun at the range. I went down a rabbit hole of customizing a Ruger Mark IV. Are threaded barrels and maybe a cool looking and not necessary compensator going to be a problem?
So I submitted my application in Feb '24 and recently went under investigation status. I just came back from taking the 16 hr course and the instructor mentioned we needed to put down traffic summons in the application. Basically, if there is anything in the DMV lifetime abstract, we needed to list those in the original application - Question 7 "Have you ever been arrested, indicted, or received any other summons..."
I can't seem to edit the original application, so should I submit an additional letter acknowledging the error and listing the traffic violations out in there?
I was on State land today hunting with my muzzleloader in the Southern Zone and couldn't help but notice a few guys walking out with a couple of harvested Doe's that were carrying rifles. When I was leaving I asked what they were using, played dumb, just out of curiosity...one guy clearly said a .270, the others a 30-06. Apparently, they had no idea reg season ended last weekend on Dec. 8th. Thoughts?
What's the best priced pistol service company that can handle the application in nyc?
Recently took a local CCW class to become permitted as a non-resident for Utah & Florida. Took about 5 weeks from when I mailed them in. Waiting on Utah. With reciprocity & the free states, gets you about 38 states (I think).
Looking to purchase more off website since it's cheaper than buying in stores. I just want to know which shops have the lowest transfer fee? so I can make sense of the purchase.
So, I’m moving to Long Island for an internship next year for a little over two months. I’m from the south, and we have constitutional carry. I carry everywhere I go. I know that that isn’t legally possible in NY. My question is, what kind of gun could I get for protection while I’m there? Will I be able to buy something like a shotgun to keep at home, at least?
