Input before a final decision to appeal/sue. Upstate.

Hello friends. Previous post is on my profile, forgive me, I have no idea how to link it. Long story short, I’ve been told to get a drug and alcohol evaluation because of 20+ year old misdemeanor DWI’s otherwise the judge “will not even consider” my application.

So, some things have happened since my last post. Nothing positive. I sought a second opinion. Urine analysis was negative for drugs and alcohol again. They still recommended treatment because of my DWIs from high school, and that I was honest and told them I still drink about two times a month, which is true. They said they wanted to monitor me in a relapse prevention group because still drinking after being arrested for drinking is “concerning” even though those arrests were 2002, and 2003 and I was literally a fucking teenager.

They want an open ended treatment plan which consists of one group meeting per week, one individual meeting per week, and a random drug/alcohol test each week. This would cost me a minimum of $120 per week, 8 week minimum, “could be extended until my counselor is satisfied my treatment goals are met.” Evaluation counselor told me she had no concern with me owning firearms during the evaluation.

So here’s the post: I can’t afford it. No way in hell. I’m a county employee (civilian sheriff’s department employee), with a second job as a medical assistant at the major hospital network in my area, going to nursing school in the fall, with an ignition interlock in my car because of these 20 year old DWIs, not federally prohibited from owning firearms, own many guns already, held a CCW in Florida previously. Here’s the rub: The letter from the judge asking for me to complete an evaluation and comply if treatment was recommended was dated two days before the southern NY ruling that drug testing is unconstitutional. Certainly, requiring thousands of dollars of “treatment” just for no guarantee that I’m approved falls within these unconstitutional bounds.

My Main Question: Do I rescind my application to avoid denial? Do I provide all documentation to the judge including my refusal to attend treatment because of financial reasons, let him deny me, and lawyer up? I have about 10 days to decide. I’m an open book. Ask me anything to help clarify.

TLDR: Judge demands thousands of dollars worth of substance abuse treatment to consider my pistol application.

Sour grip 3D prints

Hey everyone,

I'm on the hunt for a solid spur grip file to jazz up my AR engraving project. Now, I know Reddit isn't the place to ask for files directly as it against there guidlines, but I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction.

If you have any suggestions on where not to look, I'm all ears. And if you've come across any cool designs in your CAD adventures, I'd love to hear about them!

I'm pretty handy with CAD myself, but time is tight, and I could use a shortcut. So, if you've got any leads or tips, I'm all ears.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Cheers!

Edit: *spur grip

UPS lost ammo

Just curious, how often have you had ammo shipments get lost or partially rummaged through by the shipper? First time ordering any ammo online and 2 out of 3 cases of 9mm went missing.

Not concerned about the money or receiving a replacement since it’s insured. What’s more concerning is the fact that the UPS driver that normally delivers to the FFL was on vacation and a substitute delivery person was there for a week. In that time, at least 2 ammo transfers went missing.

Question for NY residents who use the Thordsen for the AK

CA resident here. Just did the front end conversion of my Saiga 7.62, all that’s that’s left is replacing the fire control group and moving it forward to make room for the pistol grip. I thought the Thordsen would be a good featureless option since I see plenty of guys who run it for their AR. I’m not familiar with how our “assault weapon” ban are similar or different. I learned CA takes it another step further regarding pistol grips and declare that that “the web of your hand is placed below the top of the exposed portion of the trigger”

I just wanted to ask you guys if that is the case. So far when asking different LGS here I get mixed answers. Some will tell me it’s fine and others tell me not risk it at all. Thanks for the input

Note: the picture isn’t mine, just took it off Google

Does anyone have the requirements, a template or example of the reference letters needed for CCW?

Are the reference letters the same as the ones used for the handgun residence license? How long should the reference letters be? Can the exact same reference letters from the handgun residence license be used for the CCW reference letter?

Suffolk county initial contact

The waiting is torture. The only way to verify my application was received is the fact that they cashed my check. My question is, when they initially reach out to you. I’m assuming it’s by phone. Is that correct?

Moving to Albany area

Hello,

I am moving from CA to Albany next month for work and was wondering the logistics of flying with my firearms would be.

I've heard NYC is an absolute no-go, but I plan on going directly to Albany.

I own a shotgun(pump, fixed stock, tube fed) and a plinking revolver. Is there any special process for flying/moving to the state with these?

Thank you for the advice and info

Question for NYC CCW Holders

Hey guys,

I recently got my NYC concealed carry permit. With the restrictions in place, I just wanted to know if the majority of NYC CCW holders actually follow these restrictions mentioned in the CCIA. Where are some of the riskiest places you’ve carried in where you’re not supposed? Would love to hear some ideas!

Also if you don’t mind, would you share your application numbers just so I can record how many permit holders there are in NYC as of ‘24? Would love to create a statistic. Thanks and happy carrying!!

Added pistol

Upgrading from Premise Permit to CCW in NYC

Hi all,

I tried my best to search through the threads, but I'm still having difficulty finding accurate info. I have a premise permit that expires in about a year. I understand that when it's up for renewal, I'll be able to apply to switch it to CCW. I already have my 18 hour cert and the additional character references.

I wanted to know what the procedure is for upgrading, how soon I can apply for renewal/upgrade, what else I might be missing that they will ask for, if there's a different form I need to fill out, and if it's just a matter of uploading the additional documents in the NYPD portal.

Thanks for any and all help!

Ran into a "good" deal on 38sp today

So was picking up some 38sp as cheap range/practice rounds to run through my 357 wheel gun. Went to Sportsman's Warehouse and they had a good deal on a 50 count box of 158 grain Armscor FMJ 38sp rounds.

Box of 50 for 20.99. I know nothing's as good as a few years ago but that's a good price nowadays.

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up if you're looking for these rounds and have a sportsman's warehouse near you

SCR rifle iron sights recommendations

Hey everyone I ordered an SCR rifle and should be receiving it soon. I didn't think it would be an issue when I initially purchased because of the AR15 style upper but after doing some research I see that because of the configuration standard ar15 sights won't cut it. For those who have the rifle what iron sights do you use ? Not to many posts on reddit address this issue as they suggest cz or HK irons that hard to get a hold of and are a bit expensive. This is my first rifle and I want to work on fundamentals with iron sights and not really deal with other optics until I get a firm grasp of the basics and think about what I want to move on to. Feeling a little buyers remorse at the moment and any recommendations this sub might have would be greatly appreciated.

Where is the best place to get your 16 hr certificate for CCW?

Where in NY, preferably somewhere closesr to NYC, Nassau or Westchester county, where you can get your 16hr certficate for CCW completed? Everywhere I’ve looked, they want $600 to $800. They’re crooks!

Nassau county renewal with questions

My friend is worried about his renewal coming up. He's saying he take an anti anxiety pill once in a while prescribed by his doctor. He doesn't take it all the time but he's afraid NOT to disclose it due to his job. His entire family depends on his salary and he's worried this medication will make him be disqualified for the renewal. How screwed is he if he does tell the PLB he's taking this med for his renewal? Thanks

CT Permit in Hand

Just wanted to give a quick rundownregarding my experience with getting my CT pistol permit, which was super easy. For me it took 2 phone calls to the SLFU and after the second phone call, the application packet was at my house in 4 days.

  • Filled out the app after I got it mid March
  • Did fingerprints at a local sheriff’s office for $5 on 3/21
  • Mailed app on 3/25
  • Received at SLFU on 3/28
  • $70 check cashed 4/7
  • Permit received 4/29

Obviously very easy since I had a NY permit to start, but glad to have it over with. Now I can take a nice day or two trip to CT and buy ammo wherever. Next up is PA, but though I hardly ever travel there.

Spoke to Sandra Smith

I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with the infamous Sandra Smith, she sounded like a older lady very frustrated and confused lol.

I had sent her an email regarding a letter of intent that I sent beginning of March to Share a firearm from my premise license with my concealed carry license. In the email I was telling her that nobody has gotten back to me yet and I wanted to know what was going on and that if it was not processed, please cancel the request.

To my surprise she actually called me (5:13pm). she said I was confused by the email you sent. It was pretty self-explanatory. I don’t know what she was confused about. I Explain to her what happened she said it was processed in march, but it was never printed and mailed out to me. I straight up told her that was unacceptable. She gave me a very basic apology and she told me that there’s only a couple of people working on these things and they are working from home because they have “something special” going on at one police Plaza and that not everybody is in the office and they are very understaffed.

She also told me she is trying to move as fast as possible with purchase authorizations and that she just now got to April 1st emails so if that helps anybody that’s been waiting for an email or response that’s where they’re at smh.
