Next Gen Fire Arms Training Calverton

My son is leaving for USMC OCS on January 12. He has never fired handguns before, so he wanted to get some training on the M18 if possible. We reached out to the guys at Next Generation and explained the situation to them. Bottom line is this, the NG guys set a perfect intro to handguns and walked my son through safety, handling, safety again, marksmanship, etc. They did a fantastic job and I would recommend them very highly to anyone who wants to learn about firearms the right way. I cannot say enough good things about these guys.

Still haven't received ccw permit

Hello, I received the approval to purchase my firearm from queens back in the beginning of August. I purchased a firearm august 18 and sent in all required documentation. I have still not received my CCW permit. My status on nypd website shows active. I did receive my permit for rifle/shotgun. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have a direct number for the queens office? Any recommendations on what to do?

Pistol Permit Class in Shorter Chunks

Hello!

I was told this was the best place to ask anything gun related in NYS. I am in the Buffalo area, and am looking to get my permit. But, I have three kids at home, and getting two days with 8 hours away on a weekend is gonna be hard. Does anybody know of anywhere that does maybe 4 hour chunks, or even weekdays?

Trinity Training Complex / Training Requirement

Has anyone taken their CCW class to satisfy the NYC training requirement for CCW license? I don’t see anywhere that they are “duly authorized” but I assume they would be since they are offering the 16+2 class.

Also, is the NYS training requirement the same as the NYC training requirement? I’ve seen places say a class will satisfy the NYS training requirement but not sure if that also means it would satisfy NYC. Surely they can’t have different training requirements….

Posting in NYC Guns as well, but thought I’d throw this out here too.

Pickup truck gun travel

NYS , Suffolk resident.

When you have a Sportsman license (not CCW if that matters) , what is the law regarding transporting a pistol appropriate for a pickup truck?

I have read the pistol must be in a lock box in the trunk, ammo must be separate.

How is it appropriate in the rear seats?

Character references for CCW ?

Good morning everybody I have a pistol permit currently sitting in Nassau County waiting for approval. I did my four character references. Everything has been completed, including fingerprints.

Once approved, I would like to upgrade to a CCW. Do I need to get additional character references?

Suffolk CCW

I submitted my paperwork for a Concealed Carry Weapon license at Suffolk Police in Yaphank on July 3, 2024, and completed the interview on Saturday, November 2, 2024. I was informed that Suffolk County requires issuing a Possess on Premises license first, and I should receive this license within the next 8–10 weeks.

Does anyone know the specific steps to take once I receive the Possess on Premises license to convert it to a CCW? I’m aware that I’ll still need to complete the 18-hour class certificate before applying for the CCW. Any advice on the process? I can't find the application to convert a Possess on Premises to CCW - I'm not even sure such an application exists. Thanks for the assistance.

A casual sportsman's review of 9mm P320x Carry, P365x Macro, and Walther CCP

Looking to put out a simple review for people looking at any of these guns. Enjoy (or don't, that's ok too)

P320x Carry - This gun probably shouldn't have carry in it's name, but the gun is a beast. The gun is incredibly accurate, and allows for fast follow-up shots at 25 yards with some practice with very manageable recoil. Romeo red dots fit nicely, as do undermounted lights. My main issues with the gun are its low concealability in warmer weather. I like the gun and carry it often. For a home defense handgun, this would be my go-to on the
Sig platform. However, I have had quite a noticeable number of minor jams and malfunctions on the gun, and in probably around 3,000 rounds I have only had one major malfunction.

P365x Macro - This gun is an everyday carry spiritual successor of the P320 (it really is not, but hear me out). The gun's slimmer profile but similar ability to control recoil make this a more comfortable and concealable gun without sacrificing much capability. A red dot will fit, and some versions ship prebuilt with one. While the gun feels much much much more similar to the 320x Carry than to the standard P365, the gun is less forgiving of poor grip and bad habits than the 320 and is closer to the p365 in that regard. A major drawback in my experience is that the gun malfunctions far more frequently than the 320 without careful maintenance and thorough cleaning.

Walther CCP - I have nothing bad to say about this handgun. For what it is, the gun does a really damn good job. The gun is highly, highly reliable for minimal maintenance and cleaning. I have had probably less than 5 malfunctions in 1,000 rounds with only minimal maintenance. The gun feels very comfortable in the hands for a compact pistol. Even with bad habits and poor grip strength, malfunctions are unlikely. This gun does not have the hand pain after range sessions that may be associated with similarly sized handguns. This is my favorite gun out of all the weapons I own. I have heard even better things about the CCP M2 with integral laser, but I do not have any personal experience.

Happened today in Crown Heights. Lethal force justifiable?

Theoretically at what point (if any) would it be justified for the father to shoot the perpetrator and at what point would it cease to be justifiable?

Process for Purchasing a pistol in another county outside of county?

The county I live in and shop for pistols in require me to buy the pistol then before taking possession register it at the sherrif’s office then go back to the store to take possession.

Are all counties in NY like this? And if not, what would the process be to purchase a pistol in another county in NY? Just wondering if it might actually be easier to purchase a pistol in another county that doesn’t have this kind of requirement. Walk in, buy, bring home then I guess I have to get it added to my license with a trip to local office. At least it saves me going back to the store a second time

Westchester CCW Appointment

Hi all, happy Saturday - I’ve recently completed my 16+2 course and it is marked as completed with today’s date. I called to schedule my application appointment in May 2024 and was given an appointment in April 2025.

My question is whether me scheduling the appointment before having the required items completed will cause any issues when I hand in my application. In Westchester County, you are supposed to have your documents completed BEFORE you call to submit, which I did not do. Will documents with dates after the time I scheduled my appointment cause issue?

Thanks - I know this might be a ridiculous question but I’d like to know if I should be prepared to wait even longer to finish the process.

Are there any guns I can purchase and keep at home without a permit?

I am currently just learning about guns. I don't mind registration or background checks or getting permits and all that....but getting a permit takes a lot of time, and I need to keep at least something at home while I figure this all out in the meantime.

Any advice?
