KS Classifieds

Does anyone know a good place to list guns and accessories for Kansas? Just arms list or is there a forum somewhere I should know about?

I have a few muzzle devices I want to move and I’d rather not ship anything if I don’t have to.

Public range idea

So i have been hunting for a range in KS that is more open to shooting than simple lanes. I want a place i can run drills, shoot and move, work out to 400 or longer, etc. I have come to the conclusion that i will either need to join one of the private ranges the have some insane requirements like 2 reference letter from members, lifetime NRA membership, a "valuable skill" and more or you need access to private land. I don't have $30k sitting around to buy 6 aces and the land i have access to, the owners are opposed to letme set up berms and backstops.

The idea i have been kicking around is setting up a trust or small non-profit, with a board of directors that have bought in. Using that organization with 10-15 members to collect funds to buy land and pay taxes to make a range. In that form the land would be owned by the organization and under no single persons control and transferable meaning it could remain whole if one or more individuals had to stepdown. The main benefit is that the members would have a range open to them that is not restrictive and larger than any one member could afford. Its can be expanded with the addition of new members both in satisfaction size and locations. It would also make the maintenance of the range easy as most members would likely have resources or skills that would be useful i.e. fence building, earthworks, welding, security checks etc. The problem i see with that is not having enough people to establish a sizeable lot and limit the ability to tranfer the position of the organization on to new people.

Does anyone have thoughts on this?

Place to shoot near Lawrence

Looking for somewhere to shoot near Lawrence. Preferably something outside. I get up to the KC area a lot as well so something out there would be fine too. Been to centerfire for classes several times but want something outside so it’s not as loud.

Hillsdale Steel

Has anyone been to Hillsdale recently / this summer that can confirm whether or not they have any steel targets up? I’ve been told in the past that they had a Texas star and a dueling tree on the pistol range, as well as a gong on the 100yd rifle range (up to 5.56 only), but wanted to confirm if that was still the case before making the drive over there.

I did call and leave the range a message asking the same, but figured I’d ask here as well.

Store for AR-15 parts

Hey! New buddy here in need of some help. Can anyone point in the the direction with a gun store that has the best selection of parts for ar-15s? I’m looking to test fit some uppers for a new build to limit the gap between receivers and slop and pick up a few things. I’m totally new to the area and could use some insight. Thanks!

KU Med Center, Kansas City KS campus

I'm looking for a new primary care doctor and I recall that KU Med Center's "Health Campus" in KCK successfully lobbied to get an exception from the Family Protection Act. So, they are "allowed to prohibit" firearms without providing adequate security measures.

(KU Med center is state owned I think, and normally in KS any state owned building is slightly required to obey the constitution since 2017)

Is there any law that makes it a misdemeanor or felony to CC in KU Med center? OR is it like most other places in the state, only illegal if you're asked to leave and refuse to leave?

I don't carry what I can't conceal. Do they have magneometers and checkpoints though?

UPDATE: someone who works there PM'd me to say don't worry and that they do not have any security screening or magnetometers, at least the P3 and P2 entrances, as of 2022 April. They don't know about the law question though.

Their signage is the same as KCK public library. They have the AG listed "no concealed" and "no open carry" signs together, with no k.s.a citation. Nobody is wanding people at the east or south visitor parking entrances as of April 2020.

Newer to Lawrence.

I’m looking for a place to shoot without being disturbed. Gave truck-henge a call and they said they only allow pistol caliber now. Pigeon hill was my usual spot but I don’t really want to drive the hour in snow to find out it’s closed. Any suggestions??

Rainier Arms Fall Fest

Rainier Arms Firearms Academy is doing their Fall Fest this weekend. They have 20+ manufacturers here showing off product and are running a storewide sale. I heard machine guns going off already and everyone from Faxon to Shadow Systems and Staccato has guns you can come shoot for free.

Range

Looking for an indoor or outdoor range in the greater KC area that goes out to 50 and 100. Preferably one that doesn't require membership. Also, I live in Olathe if that matters.

Range suggestions (outdoors)

Just moved from California (I'm free now) and have only shot at indoor ranges near me in Overland Park. I'm content using pistol indoors but I recently got a rifle and want to check out something outside. Preferably not members only so I can at least try it out without the commitment, however any information is appreciated.

I'd be inclined towards a membership if for example you can:
>Draw from holster
>Have the ability to move and shoot etc

Thanks!

CCHL Renewal Delays: 90+ Days

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on renewal delays with the AG’s office. I spoke with someone at the office today and they are currently processing renewals that were received mid-April. The AG’s office sends out renewal letters approximately 90 before expiration, which currently isn’t enough time. However, you can apply for renewal as early as 6 months before expiration, so I’d recommend being proactive.

Local Firearms/2A Activist Attorneys or Organizations

Hey Gang, longtime member here.

I've been working as a legal assistant in the Wichita for the better part of the last decade- The type of work I do is generally unfulfilling and I'm looking for legal work elsewhere. I would really like to join the ranks at a 2A focused firm/practice group, so I thought I would check the pulse of this group and see if anyone had any ideas.

Do you guys know of any Wichita area, Firearms-focused attorneys or organizations? Let me know if you can think of ANY orgs that might fit this description and would be a good place for me to combine my legal experience with my passion for 2a related cases.
Give me a jumping off point! Thanks for reading.

Casual Intro to Long Range Day - Brainstorming and Location

Hey guys, thanks to those of you who sent me DM's for an Intro to Long Range Mini-Course! (https://www.reddit.com/r/KSGuns/comments/myb324/interest_in_a_free_half_day_intro_to_sniperlr/)

I'm working on replies right now, I didn't expect such a huge amount of interest, I've had over 20 DM's, representing a huge number of the active users on this subreddit, everyone from LEO's, people with experience, and new shooters are interested!

I'm building a quick, down and dirty curriculum for a Range Day, based on feedback here's what I'll cover:

- Fundamentals of LR Marksmanship: breath control, how to manipulate weapon for comfort + accuracy, and setting up your rifle for maximum accuracy, firing positions, etc.

- Intro to "Sniper Math": How your scope really works, intro to ballistic theory, MRADs, Dialing vs holding, reading wind with and without Kestrel, etc.

- DATA: How to gather DOPE, we'll do old school dope gathering and building ballistic table AND we'll talk about using a chronograph, kestrel, and ballistic computer because it's 2021.

I'd like to set this up as a community event, I have friends at a few gun companies and since KC is so close we might be able to get some SWAG and one of my ranked PRS buddies to come out as well.

I'll call local ranges this week. Any suggestions on making this better are welcome.

Remember: Safety is #1, if you have questions about how to handle a rifle or how to move around a crowded range with your firearm DM me and we can schedule a phone call before the event!

Interest in a free half day “intro to sniper/LR” Range Day near Manhattan, KS?

Hey folks,

I’m a former US Army Sniper, casual competitive shooter, and former defense contractor with experience developing and building sniper school and recon programs for our allies overseas. I was part-owner of a company here in Kansas that teaches long range shooting, etc.

I have some free time this summer to facilitate an intro to Long Range/Range Day and am posting this to gauge interest.

Feel free to DM me, I probably already know a few of you
