Feet hurts with velosamba's

I usually ride to work with descent spd shoes, but when I have something casual to do after I put on my velosamba's. It's pretty hilly on the way (fixed gear) and everytime I have to put a bit of wats the bottom of my foot hurts like hell, usually only the right feet. I got some vintage Time Atac pedals. It feels like the pedal is pressing on my feet, but I checked with my shoe on the pedal, and the pedal definitely is snug inside the cleat area.

Does anyone have the same issue? Or would know what I could do to fix that?

Thanks I'd really appreciate the help

Is this a good gift for a cyclist for Christmas? Does the vest color matter?

I saw castelli is having a sale and I wanted to grab some items for my husband but I’m stuck wondering if these are okay items? Originally I was going to get him Ralpha but castelli seems cooler lmao. Not too sure he has a lot of second hand cycling stuff so I wanted to get him something new.

What to choose

I'm on the look for a used drive train to put on my scott speedtser '22 that runs Sora( and i have come across two group sets.
A tiagra hydraulic one (200 euros) that comes with chain casete 2 shimanos ice rotors and tiagra cranks(my bike runs a generic non series shimano crank).
The 105 (290 euros) offer way less components ( only includes the levers brakes and chain) but i feel like it will be a group set i will keep forever. Also it will be installed at no extra cost.|
What would you people rather get.

Compatible? Sram 11s cassette, Sram 11s shifter, Sram 12s derailleur

Hi!

Out of curiosity, would this work in my new build?

I still have an 11s SRAM cassette lying around, an 11s SRAM MTB shifter, and an 11s chain.

Would this shift okay when I use a SRAM 12s GX Eagle derailleur? These are easier to find, and a lot cheaper than their older 11s counterparts, and the max cassette capacity is advertised as being a lot bigger, which is nice.

I couldn’t find any helpful resources on the exact cable pull for 11s MTB SRAM and 12s MTB SRAM.

Thanks for the help!

Best tire for soggy gravel?

Curious what you all who have a few flooded underpasses to clear and the occasional “soggy spell” are using. I’m on slick 35mm GKs but I find myself fishtailing a lot ): looking to go up to 45-50s

Daily Cyclist Thread

The Daily Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.

You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.

Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

Searching for first bike

Not in a rush but I am still searching for my first bike and wanted to ask if this was a good deal.

Details- Diamondback (Overdrive 1?) asking $200 obo. Says the left crank arm needs replacing.

That sounds relatively simple, so would this be a good deal if talked down ($150?) and has not been snatched up because he is 30+ miles out of town or should I run in the opposite direction? Thanks for your advice in advance!

NBD Cannondale Synapse Carbon 3 L

A buddy recently got me into cycling and I just picked this up. Changed to Fizik Argo R1 saddle and got a good Black Friday deal on ENVE 45 wheels that surprisingly came with ENVE SES 25C tires.

Thinking of buying. If it's in good condition is this a good deal? It is hard to find a bike that fits me and this is the perfect height. Any insight appreciated! It's a bianchi brava.

My child wants to give her younger sister rides

Hello bicyle people!

My 8yr old (58lb) daughter wants a bike trailer she can give rides to her younger sister (5 years old and 55lbs). Can anyone tell me if this will work? My oldest still uses training wheels but she can probably learn to ride without them pretty easily. We were looking at some tricycles with passenger seats on Amazon but they reviews weren't great and they were only 16 in and wouldn't work for long as my oldest is already 48in tall.

Thanks in advance!

Mtb brakes to road brakes frustration

Mountain to road brake issues

I'm working on my monster bike - Trek mountain frame, grip shift, but swapping the mountain brake levers to road levers w/ hoods. They are on drops. I have rewired cable 10x times to both front and back and I can only get a soft stop and lever all the way squeezed. Cantilever brakes. Why can't the lever have tension? I'm losing the umph by the time it gets to the lever. Suggestions?

AirTag Anti-Theft Concept

Introduction:

I had an idea to make AirTags truly useful against bike theft. Right now, they’re great trackers but easily spotted and disabled by thieves. What if we flipped the script and made them into an active deterrent?

The Concept:

Instead of just chirping when pinged, the AirTag would trigger a hidden mechanism inside the bike frame to release a foul-smelling chemical. The slow-release design would ensure the bike becomes unbearably smelly for 48 hours, making it impossible for a thief to keep it without abandoning it somewhere.

How It Works:

  1. Replace the AirTag’s speaker with a small circuit that activates the release.
  2. Hide the AirTag, chemical canister, and mechanism in the bike frame (e.g., the down tube above the bottom bracket).
  3. If the thief tries to locate the AirTag by triggering a chirp, they unintentionally release the smell.

Why It Could Work:

• A smelly bike makes it harder to sell or keep.

• The AirTag continues tracking while the thief scrambles to get rid of the bike.

• It’s discreet and gives you time to recover your property.

Looking for Feedback:

• Does this seem feasible?

• Any thoughts on the release mechanism or non-toxic chemicals that would work best?

• Are there legal or practical challenges I might not have considered?

Would love to hear what the cycling community thinks—improvements, critiques, or new ideas!

P.S. This is inspired by Mark Rober 🙂

Bike options for disabled girlfriend

So my partner and I want to go on a bikepacking trip around Europe next summer, she's missing both her hands and her arms finish between her elbow and where her hands would be. She currently has a Dutch style single speed bike with coaster brakes. And it works really well.

When she was a child her parents bought her a bike that had automatic gears and coaster brakes but I can't seem to find anything online that's not either an envolio e-bike which we can't afford.

I was hoping some people on here might have some ideas about how to make this work. A single speed won't really cut it and it doesn't seem like there's many options for automatic gear hubs anymore.

Any ideas would be awesome or at least to have a discussions around some tweaks that might work.

Kids bike advice (24”)

Hi all, this is my first time posting to Reddit ever, so apologies if I am doing something wrong. Seeking advice for a bike for my 9 year old son. He is not a serious rider.

I’m looking for what I would call a “neighborhood bike”. It’s going to be left out in the weather a lot and generally treated like crap. I’d like it to withstand this treatment without constant attention (aside from cleaning or greasing). Basically the equivalent of a 1990 Huffy kids bike.

Does such a thing exist? In my searching I am seeing overly complex mountain bikes that can’t possibly be quality or reliable at a $250 price point, as well as BMX style bikes that are considerably more simple yet have absolutely horrific reviews online (mongoose, joystar, hiland).

Edit: This is something his grandparents would like to purchase as a gift, so a used one off FB marketplace is not a great option.

Decal kit BMC Teammachine R 01

I got the BMC Teammacine R 01 four, got it on a amazing deal so I pulled the trigger, but now the all black look looks a bit boring, I was searching for some shiny logo stickers to put on them, but I can’t seem to find them anywhere?

How much is this Santa Cruz Juliana worth?

It was a gift, never really road it.

What should I do to get it in sellable condition? And about how much do you believe I should be asking for it?

Thanks! 🙏
