CO SB-23-169 goes into effect

I would imagine many of you are already in the know, but here is the news. Federal District Judge Philip A. Brimmer's temporary injunction on Senate Bill 23-169, banning the sale of firearms to any person between the age of 18 and 20 in the state of Colorado, has been removed in a ruling by the 10th U.S Circuit Court of Appeals, allowing the law to go into effect.

I found out on Black Friday when a buddy of mine and myself(both 19yrs old), drove to a Sportsman's Warehouse to take advantage of the deal on RIA TM22's. We were both very disappointed to hear the news, especially as we are both avid collectors, and target shooters.

I am linking the Colorado Sun article on this Appeals court ruling for you all to read. I figured I would start a discussion thread here. I did see discussion in a post a few days ago on long guns, but figured this ruling deserved a dedicated searchable thread.

Thoughts?

Carrying in gym clothing

I want to be able to carry everyday. My job requires me to be in gym clothing most days. I have done some research and I have come across the Leisure Carry clip on belt and the Hunter Constantine belt. Does anyone have any real reviews on these systems or have one that they like?

Any social groups that go to the range together + host events?

Like the title says, anyone know if any groups like that exist or anyone interested in joining a social gun club group? I personally go to one range in aurora but would anyone want to join social range events across the Denver suburbs (and beyond if there’s enough interest)?

Hey there… How about 500 yard ranges near Denver? I’d prefer an established rules/lanes?

General questions-long guns

I’m an almost 18 year old looking to buy a long gun and do some training with it when I’m 18. As I save up for classes, gun/guns, safes, etc,I’ve had a few questions.

  1. Solid options for semi automatic rifles for home defense that will comply with Colorado’s laws? Anything that I can add on to such as optics, silencers, lasers would be awesome.
  2. Any good training spots and indoor ranges from castle rock to centennial? I live in lone tree so if anything is in highlands ranch / Parker even better.
  3. Can I go to ranges and shoot guns even though I’m not 18 and don’t own any? Maybe gun classes for under 18s? Only other options would be my mom taking me. But she is a felon and I can’t find out if she’s allowed to take me or not.

Edit: I see people saying that 18-20 can own handguns legally if it is gifted? But if you don’t have a concealed carry permit and aren’t legally old enough to buy one, how does that work?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Denver area gunsmith - ASR muzzle install and alignment check

I am looking for a Denver area gunsmith recommendation to fix a potential alignment problem I am having for my ASR muzzle devices when using my SiCo can. I had a local gunsmith do some installs recently but after verifying his work with multiple alignment rods (accuracy solutions and kratos) every install looks off but he swears it is fine with his rod. If anyone has run into alignment problems before and has a great gunsmith in the Denver area to recommend, let me know please.

Stubborn Man in NoCo Seeking Help

So, I've got an M1917 Eddystone that had its rear ears ground off. I've found replacement ears and sights and I'm trying my damnedest to try and find a gunsmith to be able to weld/attach the rear sight base for this restoration. I'm willing to drive from Weld County all the way to Colorado Springs.

Money is not an issue, I'm not worried on profit or anything like that. This is a "love of the game" situation. Does anyone know any reputable gunsmith on the front range who would be willing and able to do this?

Looking for gunsmith recommendations for FSB install + pin/weld

I’ve got a barrel incoming for a new build and need to have an FSB installed and need recommendations for competent gunsmiths reasonably close to Denver. Not opposed to driving further if the quality is worth my time though. Bonus points if they’re excellent at doing pin/welds, and better still if they have same or next day turnaround. Thanks y’all

Kelsey Creek open?

Just wondering if anyone has been up to Kelsey Creek the last couple weeks? I went up about 3 weeks ago not realizing the stage 1 fire ban was in effect and had to come back home. I know the ban has cleared but wanted to make sure they took down the barrier before I made the drive up next week. Cheers and happy shooting!

Follow Up 3d Printed Guns

I realized after asking about the "ghost gun" law that I could have someone with a manufacturing FFL print a reciever and serialize it, and then buy it from them. Does anyone have a recommendation for a manufacturing FFL who may be able/willing to do that?

Trying to understand 3d print law

Hey yall, I'm trying to understand the "ghost guns" (lol) law, it seems like you can print guns as long as you either buy a receiver that is serialized, or have an FFL serialize the receiver. Is that correct? Anyone know an FFL that can do that, or a law firm i can call to clarify this? Someone specializing in firearms law ideally.

Yes I'm aware you could just print it and not get caught, no i don't want to do that, I have dogs, don't need an ATF raid in my house.

trying the trigger at shops

How have you found talking to shops about being able to try the trigger on firearms youre looking at?

Most of the big box places have a trigger lock fitted. Ive found when I ask to look at a particular gun theyll drop the mag, check clear, then hand it over - but with the trigger lock still in.

Some of the stuff Im looking at is above your average glock in price. (think $1k-$2k pistols. At that price I want to see fit and finish, feel the ergonomics and weight in my hand, and feel the trigger.

I bought a staccato not long back, expensive gun - nobody had any issue letting me pick up, manipulate the gun and feel the trigger.

ANyone else had big box stores be weird about this?

Centennial gun club as a member?

I'm looking to join a range

I live right between Shoot indoors Buckley, and Centennial gun club

I really like Bristlecone, but I don't know if I would make the drive consistently enough.

This sub has mixed reviews on Centennial, but only as a non member.

I'm conflicted on which one to join.

Denver Laws

Is there some Denver law I'm not aware of?

Apparently PSA explicitly states that they will not ship any "non compliant" AR or AK, no receivers complete or stripped, and no AR or AK parts will be shipped to Denver. (Photo attached)

Looking through the Denver online book of codes though, the only thing there is the same old magazine capacity based "assault weapon" ban they've had in place for a long time. (https://library.municode.com/co/denver/codes/code\_of\_ordinances?nodeId=TITIIREMUCO\_CH38OFMIPR\_ARTIVOFAGPUORSA\_DIV2WEOF\_S38-116DETE)

Is there some law I'm not aware of? Or is PSA just being foolish? What's going on here - anyone know?

PMM Comp / Shalotek on the P365

Last night I had the opportunity to shoot with u/tonysmithjr. He graciously took me over to Cherry Creek Gun Club in Aurora, and let me shoot his Shalotek / PMM Comp set up.

The thing slaps - flat out. What was clear is that the Comp is doing more work than the ergonomic benefits of the grip module, but you put them together and its lights out.

The lingering question is weather or not the Icarus Mod is worth it, but unless someone has an Icarus mod they wouldn't mind letting me shoot, I'm definitely going to pick up the Shalotek.

Big thanks to Tony, this is the video that got this whole thing started.

20 y/o F, what are the laws on handguns? If I can’t buy, can a family member gift?

Hi! I am concerned about living on my own and in a house with just girls, so I am planning to take a gun safety class and get trained. I want to get a nice pistol, but all I can find are conflicting articles for CO laws about whether or not the age increase to 21 was blocked or not. I still have about 9 months and I don’t really want to wait that long, but don’t want to break any laws by having a family member give one to me.

Dispersed Shooting ban is likely to proceed in pikes peak national Forest

Got an email today from the forest service saying alternate 2 is going to be proposed for implementation, which would open several shooting ranges and close 73% of national Forest to dispersed shooters. Is there any group that is pushing back on this? Not sure there is much to do except contact your reps to reel in the unelected officials making these decisions.

Pre Tax Hike Prep.

So, with the tax hike happening in April. Unless it somehow gets overturned. What are some things you guys are purchasing ahead of time to beat the buzzer? I know that personally, I have sped up my plans for a couple of builds. And I'll be looking for some hot sales on ammo. I do live close to the Utah line. So I'm not as worried about the ammo or magazines.

Best nearby state (driving distance) to purchase rifle and handguns?

Just recently moved to CO. With the new legislation increasing gun sell tax. which neighboring state would be best to go to for both rifle and handgun purchase? Nothing special required - just looking to do a road trip and save some $$$ at the same time. Both adults are over 21 and have CO conceal carry. Can pass a background check easily, current gun owners.

Reasonably priced iron sight replacement Denver area

Looking for suggestions on gunsmiths in the greater Denver area to do iron sights on 3 handguns.

I know Bristlecone in Lakewood charges $55 and has them done usually in 30 minutes.

Any others you know that charge less?

Thanks!
