I have been wanting to get a gun or two for a while now and thought now is a better time than ever. I've saved up $1200 towards it and am looking at a few different options. I thought it would be great to grab a budget .22 to learn the fundamentals and take others shooting. I have looked at the following for .22 option
https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/ruger-10-22-carbine-semi-auto-rimfire-rifle-with-viridian-eon-scope
https://www.guns.com/firearms/p/savage-arms-mark-ii-fv-sr?i=786
https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/winchester-wildcat-sporter-semi-auto-rimfire-rifle
On top of that I would like to get another gun, maybe a shotgun or another rifle. My father in law shoots a LOT and recommended the following shotgun:
https://www.academy.com/p/yildiz-legacy-hp-20-gauge-28-in-ou-shotgun?sku=20-gauge-28
I'm not really sure which direction would be the best to go. Any recommendations would be awesome. Thanks.
Hello all, I am back again with this weeks Gun Talk Tuesday. Here in Gunnit's weekly Tuesday megatread I make up a prompt for you all to discuss that I've put zero effort into.
Tuesday catch-all post for all the questions, comments, rants, etc. that don’t belong in their own thread or the designated Politics thread
As the final Shot Show 2025 videos come trickling in, it's now a good time to discuss the wrap up; what did you think of SHOT 2025? What are you excited for, what do you plan on buying, what do you think is a dumb idea, what were some entertaining bits to it?
So my family currently doesn’t have any heirlooms to pass down to boys (my mom has a bunch of silver stuff to pass down to the first daughter). I want to buy a nice firearm that I can pass down to my son or my nephew, something that will last generations. Any suggestions?
What the consensus an the best multi use torquing tool for like barrels, castle nuts excetra?
Just curious and hoping for some insight. I’m sure the trigger system would be rough to figure out but I’m just surprised it isn’t a thing.
One of these just popped up at a local gun shop and I was wondering if anyone had any information on it. It’s just over 600 bucks and seems like a pretty good all around rifle. I’d be looking to use it for target shooting and getting into hunting smaller game.
I have a model 1891 S&W secret service special single action chambered in 38 S&W.Is it considered a “rare” or “valuable” gun? It has matching serial numbers and a belt clip holster.Any help pricing it or determining if it’s a collector’s piece would be greatly appreciated
I'm interested in purchasing a shotgun and a semi-auto rifle but am fairly lost with all the options and terminology. They would just be for fun shooting (out in the country) and home defense. I'm looking for something that's a good value; in other words cheap but reasonably reliable.
I saw a bunch of posts about Palmetto State Armory (PSA) being a good place to find budget but good quality guns, and I see they have a number of shotguns and semi-auto rifles on sale. I found a local FFL place, so I'm just looking for some advice on what to buy - specifically if any of their "on sale" options are a good value, or if I should shop elsewhere, etc.
Shotguns:
$99 shotgun with good reviews; I'm thinking about getting one of these because such a good price: G-Force GF2P 12 Gauge 20" 4rd Pump-Action Shotgun, Black - GF2P1220
I'd rather have a semi-auto shotgun, but neither of these have much in the way of reviews and I don't know if semi-auto shotguns at this price range are reliable enough to count on:
G-Force GF17 12 Gauge 18.5" 5rd Shotgun, Black - GF1712B
Tokarev Shotgun TAR 20B 20ga 5rd 18.5" - 21000166
Rifles:
There's a bunch of M4 and AR-15 options. I don't know the difference or how to pick. I'd like something reliable, ideally that you can get a few extra magazines for cheaply. Maybe a simple/cheap red dot sight.
PSA 16" Nitride M4 Carbine 5.56 B5 Systems Rifle, FDE
PSA 16" Nitride M4 Carbine 5.56 B5 Systems Rifle, Black
PSA 16" M4 Carbine-Length 5.56 NATO 1/7 Nitride MOE SL EPT Rifle, FDE
PSA PA-15 16" M4 Phosphate 5.56 NATO 1/7 Classic Rifle, Flat Dark Earth
PSA PA-15 7"Nitride AR-15 Pistol 5.56 Shockwave Marauder, Black
Could anyone knowledgeable give me some options on any of these options I listed, or if there's a better value from some other reputable site that's in the same price range (<$250 for the shotgun, <$500 for the rifle). Thanks!
EDIT: Removed all the links, as I didn't realize it wasn't allowed. Not really sure how I can ask my question without them. I'll come back and post the gun models if I can.
I recently bought a G-VG condition carcano from j&g sales the description stated it have have some service wear, may have some patina, and the bore will be dark but shootable. When the gun came in to my local gun range the carcano came in a plain flimsy cardboard box with no wrapping or bubble wrap around the gun and the butt stock was sticking out one end of the box with tape around it and the box to keep it in place. When I took the rifle out the box the gun was smothered in cosmoline, dirt, and pebbles. The bolt would barely even move the bore was covered in old mud and fresh dirt you couldn't even see the light from one end of the barrel. The barrel was covered in thick rust and it looked like the barrel had been welded over the rust spots. The wood was in way worse condition than the stated service wear. The barrel band/sling mount bolt was missing and bent and wouldn't fit all the way the bayonet wouldn't extend and was chipped everywhere and the rifle stock was cut to fit a youth shooter. I'm 5'10 with average arm length and I had to chicken wing it to even somewhat shoulder it. The other people at my range agreed that it is not recommended to shoot the gun how it was. I called j&g customer service and a man answered and I told him all the issues that happened and he told me the dirt and mud was from fedex opening the box and playing with it. I asked him if he could give me a upgrade for the inconvenience and he absolutely not and I'm not getting anything for free and said all the other carcano rifles were in the same condition and that they were just wall hangers and conversation starters even though their website says it's shootable so don't even ask for another one. So I just said give me my refund and he said he would contact my range to ship it back to J&G and then he hung up on me. So never ever buy a carcano front them. J&G carcano rifle
I’m curious why .32 S&W Long fell out of favor. The gel tests I’ve seen show descent penetration and they shoot soft and relatively quiet.
Trying to figure out how to go about getting an application submitted and they would want a "TCN" for a fingerprint?
Then upon figuring out they go through a company, it's drastically unclear how to schedule an appointment?
I'm very confused by this... for lack of straightforwardness. Stupid process.
Drop some recommendations. Veteran friendly only (as in you already went overseas and came back different).

Thanks in advance!
I have a Ruger 10/22 that I put a scope rail on and then decided that I didn't like it that way, due to the included screws being too long and jaming the bolt. I no longer know where the plugs went.
But are they needed? It just has four holes in the top of the receiver now, doesn't neem to affect the function of the gun.
Can I just keep it as is and call it weight reduction?
Hey everybody, I'm a big gun guy and interested in getting my first bolt action. I'm thinking .308 because its slightly cheaper then 6.5cm and the distance drop won't truly effect where i'll be shooting. Im going to use it for deer hunting and the range. I'm shooting to be sub $1000, Savage, Ruger, and Begara are the ones I keep seeing and have held. Any recommendations including model and brand would be greatly appreciated. Just looking for the best value, don't want to go too cheap but not too expensive $600-700 range would be great but over that won't kill me either. I am not a novice in bolt actions but not a pro either.
Looking forward to opinions!
I am currently on disability for ASD(autism disorder) and as such am unsure as to whether or not attempting to purchase a firearm would result in legal trouble.
All the information i can find is highly contradictory and i'm not sure whether receiving SSI for my condition means i'm a prohibited person or not.
Can anyone clear this up for me, please?
In the market for a new pistol need people’s option gun will be a range gun/ home defense. No competions. Leaning toward the smith and Wesson because it comes with. 4 mags vs only 2 with beretta and optics plate in the box over having to but it and right now smith and Wesson is running a rebate where with a new guns purchase you get a free viridian rfx 15. Anyone’s options on the guns or expierce with eith or both Is appreciated.
I wanted an a2 or a1 stock, but they seem to be too expensive, I'm looking for something under $25-30.
Alternatively if there is a kit with a stock for less than $50 that would work too.
Seems like none of my brick and mortar retailers have any in stock…
Say that 3 times fast.
Hello I bought my first gun last week and I was thinking on getting a rifle but this rifle I found has rust but not too rusty and the wood seems to be used for years (1891 to be specific) but serviceable condition. Any tips that could help with that? I already have an anti-rust spray but its mainly used on cars, idk if thats a great idea but its an option.
So for work I’m issued an SBR with 77gr Hornady TAP ammo specific for SBRs. Agency issues out 55gr 223 to patrol but give that to us to practice with and zero.
So my question for anyone who has done the math or the experimentation, if I zero my 14” SBR with 55gr 223, how off will my zero be with 77gr 556 dedicated for SBRs?
Just looking for ballpark numbers since they won’t give us extra of the 77gr to zero or do anything with. I’m trying to justify them buying more for us to zero off that ammo.
Hey yall, I’m looking to get a new shotgun for turkey hunting. I’ve been using my grandads old ‘69 Browning A12 which has served me well. It got me my first turkey this past spring, but I want something lighter and I’d like to preserve the gun as a cherished gift. Does anyone have any recommendations for turkey guns under $2000? I’m not too picky, but I’d like it to be light, reliable, and durable. Doesn’t need to shoot 75 yards, but would like it to cycle well and shoot consistent.
Mav 88 I snagged off a Californian college kid for $200, and a PSA M4 clone I built as an Other Firearm (to not have to neuter it per the NJ evil feature bans). I'm currently saving up for a Romeo5 optic, so please excuse the rather spartan setup I have rn.
My EDC Canik mc9 Mete.
Edit: Any sites please
Wouldn't it be cool if PSA or some other budget gun company made a smooth bore musket for America's 250th birthday. Just a standard Brown Bess or Kentucky rifle that is able to shoot and affordable.
