So I just pulled the trigger and got my first AR after doing extensive research and watching review videos and lurking on Reddit, I have finally come down to choosing the M4A1 RIII. I opted for the M4A1 RIII because:
1: I like the aesthetic and the look of the M4. I do like the 14.5-inch barrel length.
2: This particular DDM4A1 is a special package that already comes with numerous of accessories such as an upgraded Trigger Tech trigger, Armegedeon Sling, front and rear Magpul Mbus Pro Iron sights, and of course, the most important thing to me is the already mounted and equipped with a Dead Air Keymo flash hider; this was really the big selling point for me as it saves me the trouble of finding a gunsmith and get the muzzle removed and repinned and rewelded again for a suppressor, as I do want to put one on in the near future. If I did the math correctly with the upgrades and accessories that it comes with it, and how everything is priced, it should be roughly around 600 dollars ish worth of upgrades that are included in this package.
3: With numerous positive reviews of the quality, history, and great customer service that DD has, I like to think that I am super happy with my purchase.
This will be my first AR, what should I do next? Any ammo recommendation? Any good accessories, optics, etc...? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!
Edit: So far I have bought 4 additional Pmags and a CTR stock.
Recently purchased an AR pistol and was wondering if it’s legal to put my sig Juliet flip up magnifier on it. Can’t find much on the internet. Thanks!
Wife's boyfriend gave me airbrush privileges back, and let me buy a Ruger Wrangler. Bone stock, enamel paint with KG Gunkote Superclear finish for that delicious old west pimp style
So I'm new to the idea of even messing with aftermarket barrels. I'm sure there are a slew of different opinions. Just curious if anyone can give me a little information on the subject. I know it can depend a lot on what rounds you're shooting. I primarily shoot the cheapest 150gr rounds I can buy but wouldn't be opposed to getting into a higher gr count if someone can recommend something decent.
Background: Bought my first firearm a few weeks back from aimsurplus, and the nearest FFL shipping option was a place that had a business name. [INSERT BUSINESS NAME] Industries. I bought the gun, then the next day called the phone number. Turns out it's a guy operating out of his house. Really nice dude. He notified me when it came and I went and picked it up.
Bought a Beretta APX yesterday, and chose him as the shipping option again. Notified him today via text that I made the purchase and it would be shipping soon.
Question: Was I rude to just purchase the gun before asking if he'd want to receive it? Or was it enough to give him notice before the order even ships? He's the first shipping option that pops up when I check out from aimsurplus. Bro hasn't responded and I'm nervous I accidentally breached etiquette lol. He didn't seem to mind the first time, but I just wanted your guys' opinions.
Wanted something "cool" looking and something to practice shooting with. Eventually will get a hunting rifle for future hunting but for the general purpose of learning to shoot and maintain a weapon along with owning a badass looking rifle lol, I can't see anything wrong with this model for a starting rifle. Just wondering what some people thoughts on this are.
Have shot a few guns before and am fairly comfortable with handling one to add a bit of context haha.
Wouldn't it be off considering that the barrel is under the sight? Also how do laser sights work?
I'm expecting in a few months and wanted to just get general advice on lead and heavy metal hygiene with newborns. This kind of seems like a no brainer (just clean your guns and wash your hands) but wondering if there are any additional tirbits people should know.
I'm primarily concerned with using my training pistol at the range and then dry firing at home (and as a result getting lead dust everywhere). I have d wipes and dlead soap but are there any additional precautions I should take?
What's your hygiene protocol for:
Also recommendations for bedroom quick access safes for 3 handguns and an AR pistol would be welcome. 🤔
Hi,
This is my first firearm and I wanted some tips on how to maintain it.
My local gunsmith told me I should use Flitz Bore Cleaner to clean the barrel and then finish by removing that product’s residue (once clean) with Flitz Tactical Matte Finish Cleaner.
They also told me that I should not oil my rifle unless I am storing it or not shooting for 1 month +.
Is this good advice? Should I still a small amount of my Lucas gun oil when cleaning the rifle after the range?
Got to shoot this for the first time today and its a beast. 500 rounds that was a mix of cci clean subsonic, cci mini mags, Aguila super extra, and winchester white box. Not a single malfunction and its probably my new favorite to shoot. 50 cent piece size groupings at 100 feet with just the romeo 5 and a rubber block lol just an absolute blast. If anyone's on the fence about these things swoop one up.
does anyone make a good reproduction PPSH? ive wanted one for years
Long time viewer, first time poster. I’ve been really looking over the MCX-R on sale over at Palmetto. I know the lower is proprietary with with the Mossberg footprint stock, I was wondering if you can just put the upper on any standard Ar-15 lower? I could sell the p365 and theoretically get an Sig upper for ~$1000.
Are there any known examples of a bullpup Luty Submachine gun? I feel like it wouldn't be hard to make one but I haven't found any examples of someone making one
I've seen the Accurize laser, 90 euro here in Italy, almost every dry fire laser costs like this here.
I already know that nothing can replace real shooting, but would this be good to "do not lose muscle memory"?
I don't have time for range in some periods, then I go and I have lost every little skill gained, this is quite sad for me since I like shooting and I'd like to be at least "decent".
With "plain dry fire" I don't know if it "was a good shot or not" , and with a "common laser" I need to look at the wall to see if the dot is steady...
I recently inherited a rifle but I can’t figure out what the heck it is. No markings on the barrel, didn’t come with any ammo. Any gun pros here know what this is?
Is this thing on? It's 9AM CST and still no thread so here we go.
What's going on in your state or country?
In this vital election season Don't be Gaslit about Harris's position on guns
"Gun owners for Harris" is about as Organic as a box of Cheezits.
This here is my SCSA tiapan X chambered in .223 wylde so it can take 5.56 nato and .223 Remington. This is a pump action/strait pull so it classifies under a category B licence that is for recreational hunting, pest control, and target shooting which are the only reasons a civilian can own a firearm. Unless Australian have a business (with proof of insurance) in feral pest control, then we cannot access semi auto rifles so this is the best we can do. I have replaced the stock with a fixed MOE carbine stock and buffer tube attachment (since adjustable stocks are banned). The scope is a zerotech 1-6x24 LOVO and it's amazing. This is Australian made and there has been much more progression in the strait pull rifle manufacturing. Unfortunately some states have appearance laws that ban guns if they look "military" and this one is just allowed hence why it originally didn't have a buffer tube stock. We are also limited to 10 round magazines hence the tactically got glued mags together and I plan on buying a proper mag clamp so it's not going to snap off.
Before I start, I want to get it out of the way that I'm in Canada so suppressors are banned, no if's, but's or tax stamps to get around it. I'd be open to making the move South some day but the only way for me to do that right now is to win the green card lottery or the actual lottery.
Now I know that if you're shooting a muzzle braked .50 indoors every week, you're gonna lose hearing no matter what, but for my use case of hunting maybe once or twice a month during hunting season and maybe one or two days at an outdoor range a month, would my current earpro setup be enough to prevent issues?
For over-ear protection I'm using the Walker Razor electric earmuffs, which claim to provide around 23db NRR, and for in-ear, I use these 3M disposable earplugs which I have since learned to diligently seat after my close encounter with perma-tinnitus which are rated at 32db NRR. I know NRR isn't cumulative, but some online calculators I checked said this should provide around 40db of protection which should lower a blast even on the louder end of around 165db down to a level where a few dozen shots over the course of a day or half-day are unlikely to cause permanent hearing damage given the fact I won't be doing it every day.
For my use case, is this enough, and is there any way I can improve this further? Would investing in custom-fitted earplugs for even a slight increase in db reduction (like 35-37db NRR instead of 32) be worth it? Same with earmuffs - the Walkers were about 100$ CAD, would the ~300$ Sordins offer a few db more in protection that could make some kind of difference?
I've seen these earmuffs by Decibel Defense which are supposedly a whopping 37db NRR, which is 14 more than the Walkers, but the obvious trade off is that they are not electric earmuffs so when paired with plugs you probably can't even hear someone yelling next to you. If I'm really paranoid about my hearing, would it be worth it though?
Thanks to anyone who can provide input!
Gun is an Aero Prec lower, KAK upper/BCG that I put a 7mm WSM barrel on with an Aero adjustable gas block, set up per the directions.
Issue is, after shooting through my initial batch I elected to clean the cases and prep for reload, so I tried a new powder. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch that the case rims were bent before loading them into the FL die, so one likely cause is that the non-flat shells were resized at a slight angle
So I tried to file down the high spots on the case face, and even tried shortening the COAL to make sure the bullets weren’t getting stuck. No change.
My next attempt is to pull the bullets, file the case face until it’s flat, and then fully re-size and load.
Any other things I could check to rule out anything? I think what’s happening is that bent case rim is making it difficult for the bolt to close around.

Cheaply made m4 and m16 style rifles i shoot varmints and steel with. Anderson barrel on top, fn barrel in the bottom.
I have the Howard Leight Impact Sport ear muffs and believe I am experiencing sound leak because my head is quite small, the ear muffs & glasses are uncomfortable, and I think the ear muffs move when shooting with my shot gun.
I usually double up with foam or my custom plugs but I have a hard time hearing others and need to be able to hear my instructor during lessons. I absolutely cannot shoot indoors or be near very loud guns because its way too loud if I don't double up with foam.
I am looking at the Howard Leight Impact Sport in-ear and the ProEars Stealth in-ear protections.
Does anyone have any positive or negative experiences with either?
Any other recommendations for other electronic in-ear protections with active noise canceling? I'd like to stay under ~$200ish.
