Hi all fairly new to shooting, may I just start by saying the shooting community is amazing!
just wanted to know as there’s not been much said recently.
I’ve applied for my SGC a few weeks ago, I’m in the Avon and Somerset area. Does anybody know any updated current wait times for the grant.
Thanks in advance!
I was wondering if there are vz58 straightpull rifles in .223 or 7.62 in the uk and if yes how reliable they are as i am considering buying one for a rifle build
With all this talk of blank gun bans I wonder how the Stafford hill's have remained legal and if they actually are legal? You see them from sale time to time but its not clear why they're legal while others have to top or side vent and even that doesn't seem to be good enough.
I’m sure you’ve seen the details of the blank gun ban so won’t go into detail on the situation, but having read the article I decided to do some research.
As far as I can tell nothing new has happened, the mentioned brands haven’t been added to a banned list or anything, so the brand doesn’t instantly make you a criminal. According to cps.gov.uk, prosecutors should ensure that (among other things) “expert evidence clearly addresses whether an imitation firearm is "readily convertible" and/or whether a partially reactivated firearm or its component parts can be test fired”, so they can’t just say “we converted model X from brand Z so that means model Y can also be converted”, each case would have to be considered independently.
But what makes them convertible? It appears that the barrel is being cut off, the trunion drilled out and a piece of steel tube glued in, just like the front venting blank guns across Europe.
How did they deal with that? Blank guns now have to have the sides of the trunion milled out so if you drill the it out there’s nothing left to glue a tube into.
My possible solution? Mill the full length of the sides of the trunion on the now (possibly) illegal blank gun so that if the trunion is drilled it would break in two, now it cannot be considered readily convertible.
I’d like to think this could be done at home if you have access to even something like a dremel, and a simple look at it would be sufficient proof it can’t be converted, but also open to them needing to be done professionally and certified rather than an outright ban.
Do you think this is worth considering? Even if it’s not official, if you were to do this to a blank gun then not hand it in and subsequently get “caught” with it would this be considered a reasonable defence? At worst it would be destroyed by them trying to drill it out to prove you wrong, still better than 10 years!
I have recently started a petition to lift the ban on semi automatic firearms in the UK if agree with me that the ban should be lifted please sign the petition at the link below

I have found various kalashnikov replicas online, ready for sell.
I want to obtain a replica kalashnikov for Christmas, it has to have the dimensions, sizes, weight.
Made of metal and wood, I must be able to dissect the weapon, (disassembly and assembly) perform maintenance routine of cleaning, checking parts, then reassembling. Rack the bolt, or dry fire. I fully believe that I have found a copy online that is capable for this desired role.
I have learned that the expensive deactivated weapons are actual real kalashnikovs, with welded, cemented or a change with the bore. E.g. This makes me believe it won't be able to function as much as I want mine to be.
I don't want a Kalashnikov that shoots anything. Doesn't shoot blanks, doesn't shoot BBs, Isn't an Airgun.
I don't want a legitimately stamped of approval, soviet steel or ultra rare Kalashnikov.
I believe a commercial made or imitation of the kalashnikov with it's real dimensions, and slightly indifferent internals which make it a safely fake Kalashnikov, can allow me to buy one, if I can find one, that's also brightly orange in these areas, Foregrip, Grip, Magazine, tip of barrel. If the Kalashnikov has a wooden stock, then wooden orange stock as well. If no stock, then under folding retractable stock (preferred)
This means I do not want Airsoft, Airgun, Deact.
I have found 'Denix Replicas' a company capable of selling me a kalashnikov replica, if painted in areas to be bright orange, capable to be sold to me legally, avoiding a lot of paperwork.
I have learned from many people that, Spanish made Kalashnikov replica's use a bad pot metal, which is brittle and can make the metal break under minimal tension, I have looked at the source of the Denix Replicas being directly made by an Spanish company.
I would prefer authentic real wood. Real metal.

This is a topic that has really affected a lot of us, so I thought I’d put together a template that we can all send to our MP’s in the hope to at least do something
If anyone wants it, here it is.
I've been clay shooting a few times and want to get my certificate however i can't quite make sense of the whole process of getting a new license. I'll be getting it in Wiltshire if anyone knows the local process as well.
Seeing as someone posted asking about how the police amnesty for TVBGs is working, and I think my little story here would be better as a post, honestly it ISN’T working so far.
I went to hand mine in a week ago. Went to my local police station.
Got told they weren’t able to process it because they “aren’t a proper police station” and told to go to another station, 30 - 40 minutes away by car, the next day. This was written down to make sure there were no mistakes and to clarify to the reception what I was there for.
Thought, “okay, fair enough, if they haven’t got the facilities.” (Even though it’s a relatively new, massive building, and they closed all the other local stations and justified it by saying this new station was going to be THE police station for the area)
Went to the other station, got there for 9 o’clock Saturday morning, with the written note I had, all the details written down with help from the officer from the first station.
The station was closed.
It was closed for the weekend and wasn’t going to be open until Monday.
Used the yellow phone outside the station to call 101 and figure something out.
Proceeded to get told “well, it wouldn’t matter if it was open anyway, because the reception is closed at the moment as it’s getting work done to it.”
The woman on the line said that she would get an on duty officer to swing by and get it from me.
10 minutes later (being on hold the entire time) I get informed that apparently no one is available to come and get it, and they also don’t know if any officer can come and take it off of me, as the woman says “we aren’t sure if this is an issue for a FEO to sort out or not, as it’s to do with a firearm”
She then suggests I give my address and they send someone round from the firearms team to pick it up.
I asked when would they come and do it, because I go between my home and my parents house ~100 miles away and didn’t want them coming to the door when I’m not in as that’s a waste of time.
“Well, I’m not too sure, it could be tomorrow, it could be in a few months”.
Jesus. Fucking. Christ.
At that point, I just said “you know what? I’ll just come back another time”
Put the phone down, (after they triple checked I was sure that I didn’t just want to leave my name and address with them of course) and went home. Now my shitty blue Ekol Gediz (that I wanted to get rid of anyway) is sat in a drawer and I am more inclined to go and launch it into the local waterway than I am to try and hand it in since it’s so much effort.
It’s just fucking daft.
Hey, as the title says can any recommend any clubs for someone basically completely new to maybe dip into things. The only actual shooting I've done in the past is air rifles and 22's back in the cadets but that was like 20 years ago now.
I think I'd prefer rifles but I wouldn't mind a go at shotguns too. I know there's a lot of steps involved to getting up and running so would be good to check out a club first is my thinking.
I live on Ardnamurchan so anywhere vaguely in the highlands would be ideal is possible.
Thanks all
I want to hand in some top venting blank firers to the police, they are holding an amnesty soon. How does it work? Do you have to call before hand or just go and hand them in?
Do they give you a receipt stating what item was handed in?
For Christmas 2024.
I am looking forwards to owning an replica AKS-47 rifle. I want to be able to Collect this replica, because I am interested in kalashnikov firearms.
This model online has been quoted to be extremely close to the real thing, expressing dedication from the people who made it.
This makes me believe I am capable of practicing, learning and understanding the replica by having one in my hands. Working sliders, magazine, e.g.
This can be disassembly, assembly or the feel of a 3.4 KG Kalashnikov imitation.
I have found a seller online, selling a piece for £234+ at lowest price.
I am 17 now. Will be 18 in December (five days before Christmas)
What will be the legal process that I will need to undertake, following laws and rules. When importing my Replica.
Do I need an license, do I need a license for when carrying it between places. Am I allowed to paint or replace the grip, or foregrip wood with differentiating wood grip designs.
I am learning engineering, therefore I might want to make the wood orange/red/hue brown.
Am I allowed to feel it in my hands in my residence? Does it need to be regularly serviced, or does the licence need renewal.
Is this quality- cost-effective for an £200+ Imitation firearms of 3.4 KG -wood and metal.

Looking for a present for my boyfriend and he’s a big history nut and once went to a shooting range on holiday and absolutely loved it so I’d love to take him to one again.
Looking for suggestions in the Derbyshire area but can travel if it’s worth it. Mentioned the history thing because if he could shoot historical guns that would be awesome as he would know all about them already and know what historical figures used them and such. Mainly WW2 history is his favourite.
Is this rifle legal in uk? It has a 357 bullet in a revolver format which makes it a semi auto centre fire? Or what’s the legal definition. Edit: I am only on about the proper ones not the uk modified ones space cowboy shit
Curious as to what you guys think of this new calibre?
I have a bit of land I want to use for target shooting. Mainly .22 maybe .223.
What would be required for a backstop? Mud,sand? How much and any other ideas would he great.
Another attack on the shooting community, this time literally.
I haven't seen any coverage of this in any major news media, so thought I should share it here. Also important to note these criminals were armed!
Edit: Police source on arrest
Hi all, I purchased a replica Luger many years ago before the current legislation on imitation firearms.
I was going to sell it, but apparently now I can’t easily do that. Not sure what to do with it now. Any advice needed :)
Hi, I was wondering if a small filing cabinet with a lock on it would do for cartridges on a Shotgun certificate or if I should buy another safe
Cheers 👍
Anyone know any good ranges/clubs near Torquay? Offering as many shooting disciplines as possible would be ideal.
Anyone have one of these, are they any good.
Hi all. So I've had a license now for 5 years, it's up for renewal and I've had to get my GP to complete a form about my mental health as per recent legislation.
I got the form back today and it's kicked up quite a surprise. Firstly, it's mentioned a suicide 'attempt' when I was 13 - I'm 37 now. It stupidly didn't even occur to me that this would come up. I had a very unhappy childhood and the attempt was really a cry for help, but I've done nothing remotely like that for 24 years since. It also mentions my binge eating disorder, although it says I'm now 'stable', which is true, but it states it's linked to depression - something that I definitely don't have and I'm pretty certain have never been diagnosed with. I'm now worried I'm going to have my gun licence revoked over two things that have absolutely no bearing over my mental stability at all. Has anyone got any experience with this at all and can confirm or deny either way? TIA.
I am applying for renewal of my SGC, however I’m unsure about the occupants list. My partner only lives here for half of the year. Should they still be included as an occupant?
Hello all,
So I've recently discovered that i am textbook consistent with the symptoms and traits of ADHD.
I really want to talk to my Dr to get some help because it's affecting my performance at work do I'd defo like to manage it as best as I can.
My concern is that I'd lose my licence as it's a mental disorder, has anyone heard of this? I feel like I'm hopeful that I won't because at the end of the day, I know I'm sensible and responsible and just have a hard time concentrating, sitting still, doing boring things like admin style tasks and a few other XYZ`s...
One of the big giveaways for diagnosis is the whole lack of concentration thing on things we don't want to do (repetitive tasks for example) but if its something we are interested in; in my case guns! Then hyperfixiation occurs which is why I know everything there it to know about literally every firearm I come across in person or on YouTube.... in other words being a firearm owner and having the privilege of enjoying clay shooting once per month when I can goes a long way for me because I love it so much!
What we thinking? Rather difficult one I'm thinking.....
Oh, forgot to mention I'm in the metropolitan area 👍
